  • This video shows how to run FEA analysis on a frame using SolidWorks Simulation. The frame model is taken from the SolidWorks SAE Tutorials. The video covers the setup and running of a static analysis on the model as well as the post processing of the results which show stresses, displacements, and more on the frame.

Mine also is a spaceframe chassis. But when I try to do the torsional analysis it says that the model is unstable and you need to check the fixtures. What might be the problem.

i do all... but this say a error to run...
"the coefficient matrix is zero diagonal stiffness in the equation: 553"
    Please help me! :(

I am making a wing and want to know at what point it will fail, how do I find out if the wing will break or not?

Hi in fsae rules they determined that the boundary conditions of analysis should be " fixed displacement but NOT Rotation" ,when you want to send SCRF Most of analysis have this kind of boundary condition ,would you please help me how can I add this boundary condition to my space frame In cosmos works?

why only so little force? if you have a car mass like 320KG,shouldnt be a force around 6400 newtons???

how do I convert the torsional rigidity analysis result into NM / degree please?

How about making a video that explains what reasonable loads are to apply to a frame like this, and more importantly, what the hell the results actually mean!?!?!? I did my study perfectly but I have no idea what it actually means in terms of how strong the chassis is and how much it is actually torsionally stiff! My chassis is a modified version of a Van Diemen FF chassis(not for FSAE), so it's basically proven technology, but the factor of safety keeps coming up very low.

Well it depends on the application, there is no rule of thumb... What's the worse situation to be taken into consideration for the chassis (e.g.: 6G constant lateral), material used, tube profile, etc.

is it best to not add copes or corner treatments? how much will it affect the FEA results?

aside from the slurred speech...why use 169.7 N? Suspension loads actually go the frame, not a truss member. Fixing the rear like that overpredicts torsional stiffness. the joints need to move in X; how do you do this?

Gnosis Autosports Could you post this question to the MySolidWorks forum? It's a better area for discussing technical questions like this than trying to do it through social media. Thank you! my.solidworks.com/forums

It would be easier to follow if you narrated what you will do before actually doing it. At times you had already completed a step before you narrated it. Thank you for the tutorial

Terrible, I have been using inventor for many years, but with an open mind to test and master solidworks (eaaaasy). It's just not as smooth as inventor, tools and commands are slow and analysis resultas are confusing, non-standard. I have to give a massive plus that sheet metal tools are outstanding in solidworks out of that.. this is a tool for high school students, if you want efficient engineers move into inventor.

@@solidworks Thank you I appreciate your response.
After one month using it and exploring it, I still have that sensation like moving from windows 10 to windows 8 when comparing to Inventor. I can handle the tools with confidence as both share similar approaches. But I don't know if you guys can work to improve the response of the commands (included dimensioning) to have smoother and faster transition.
Frame analysis hasn't improved at all since the introduction of this tool time ago, I still need to explore it, but so far I couldn't see an option to make rotational nodal connections. However, I hope it's there somewhere. Just have a look on inventor or any other application that uses line element analysis, this is not about being different, it's about being functional, pleasant and offer standard engineering results representations.
Good luck, if you believe that I could be of any help to assists the improvement of your software from a perspective of Autodesk Inventor User, just drop me a line.
      Cheers.
