    I met Dikembe while he was playing for the Rockets. I was fortune enough to get to take a picture with him. A man respected by all of his peers. Rest In Heaven Dikembe 🙏🏾

    I never watched basketball but I knew who Dikembe Mutombo was, he was an extraordinary man, you can tell he had a good heart and I respect him for all the work hes done. I hope people continue it.

    Underrated off the court gentleman... since my young age in Congo, this guy has been around through his charitable actions. In the 90s he gave away dozens of buses for the city for free. So much rings and chips in your heart. Rest in peace champ.

    Powerful legacy on/off the basketball court. Love his impact on my home country of Congo. The man’s life goes way past basketball. My heart breaks for his family and friends. Love how popular and affectionate he was with everybody. Sad day and bad loss for the basketball world. Legends stand tall and nobody stood taller than Dikembe. Rest Easy and say hi to Coach Thompson for all of us

    God Bless Mount Mutombo... As an American, we don't know much about his humanitarian efforts in his home nation, but I know he was able to do a lot in service of his people. He left a massive, positive mark on this planet. May we all cherish his memory...

    Sad news.
    Stopped following the NBA when all the legends retired in the late 90s, but this hits home. Those legends obviously included Mutombo. I remember the rivalries well from that era.

    As a country that knows Congo 🇨🇩, I fondly remember 25 years ago when my dad took me to your grandma's house and said he had a surprise. I had no idea I would meet you that day, and you told me, "I’ll see you one day." I wish I could see you again, but for now, rest in peace, big Dikembe.

    He was a beautiful person. He was also an ideal MAN. Dikembe was a hero. Strong but selfless. Hard but compassionate. If what I believe is the afterlife, Mr Mutumbo just took the fastest elevator to heaven. What a GOOD man.

    Met him in Houston as a child during an charity event down there and hugged him, genuine and thoughtful guy who cared about the community. He meant lots to the community and wished I hugged him one last time. ❤

    Utterly gutted to see him gone. One of the all time greats - once as a player, and then even more so as a man. I owned two of his jerseys as a kid, had his posters on my wall, even wrote a college essay about him. Never met him, but miss him terribly. A true icon of sport

    Mutombo has done more for people than Jordan and LeBron. They were better players and got paid more money but Mutombo heart was bigger and he believe in putting others before himself that is priceless

    I used to see him at the gym, he always had this walk of humble royalty, like a God and he was always pleasant and nice. Definitely a presence in the room 🙏🏼 💫

    Nah this hurts. I seriously use the no, no, no finger wave when ever I play ball and got blocks. I take pride in playing defense or watching great defense and it comes from guys like Mutumbo. Great guy on and off the court.

    Wow, I just learned about this. My generation of players are slowly passing on. Even as I kid, I wasn't wondered would my Dikembe cards grow in value so I never traded them in. I'll hang on to them know. Great man, not just a player or baller.

    This report should've mentioned he made an NBA finals appearance with the 76ers in 2001.I'm sorry to hear about Mutombo's death .The last time I saw him in the media he was accompanying Britain's Prince William and Princess Kate to a Brooklyn Nets game in 2014 ,explaining what was going on on the court to them.Too young an age to die by NBA standards.
