But he was the better person and spared them. That no matter what they did, they did not reach the level of maturity that he has, and through that, they saw the error of their ways.

"Know that I can break and kill you at any time and place of my choosing, consider your prolonged existence at the hands of my mercy a reminder should you choose evil again."
I love the Fajar spare because he was the one to actually kill the protagonist as a child. To have that child grow up and dominate them to a point where they could have killed them easily but chose not to brings even more shame for him. The look on his face says everything, he can barely look them in the eye. The protagonist surpassed him not only as a warrior but as a human being.
It has more significance, I love it. "Revenge... is like a rolling stone, which, when a man hath forced up a hill, will return upon him with a greater violence, and break those bones whose sinews gave it motion." Violence begets violence - it moves bodies but not minds. You kill Fajar, who wants to gain vengeance as a consequence? Understanding, Mercy and forgiveness are the only ways to move forward.
He probably should have just went to College, got a corporate job, find a nice girl to settle down with and forget the whole Vengeance thing if he was gonna spare them.
@@maxforce bruh I wouldn’t care about any of that if I’m in a realm where there are pieces of jewelry that keep you from dying at the cost of aging a year
It's the one that makes the most sense story wise too. The artist is the only one that tries to avoid a fight and does seem genuinely remorseful once you spare her. All the other bosses seem to be in awe or just confused that you let them live.
@@soulstein2870 I recommend you complete the vengeance playthru (basically just do normal finishers on the bosses) before doing the Wude playthru or reading about it lol. At the end of the vengeance playthrough it hints at how to spare bosses. To spare the bosses fill out their stamina bar once but DON’T use a finisher, wait for them to recover. Then you fill it out again and it will show an option to hit left on the DPAD or if you’re on pc some other button. This will spare them.
Well to be fair they weren’t trying to prove a point 🤔. Some research in the story suggest that they wanted to take the amulet so they could share its healing properties with the people , especially yangs family. They hated that it was kept secret from everyone else , when it could save many lives , like those of terminal illness. Kinda blurs the line between who is the real antagonist 🤔.
No you don't need to kill people to prove your point. You just need to show them that you CAN kill them whenever you want but are choosing not to. Just let them know that every breath they take from that point on is just a result of your mercy. Mercy which can be taken away at your leisure.
Fun Fact: While Yang isn't the MC's actual little brother, the term is very common in martial arts as a nickname amongst students learning under the same Sifu.
I love how Sifu is a twist on the classic revenge story. 1st time playthrough you blindly go on this revenge spree, killing everyone until you kill Yang. Then the games slaps you in face basically telling you not to do that, you can do better.
@OHGAS Wude isn't about not killing it's about piece of sprit. the fact that if you kill Yang in anger you become a child again is symbolic of you forever being trapped in that moment of truma. Wude is a path of enlightenment that deals with ones moraitly of mind which in essence means the protagonist just has to not hate them/forgive them (it is more complex than that but at a base lvl) they could've still justifably kill at least 3 of em if not all for the wrong doings they have done and still do and that included those who are working for the bosses as long as it's done within morality of Wude
i dont get it. they should have just implemented the spare and kill concept from the start. whats the point of only introducing it when the game alr forces you to kill every character in your first playthrough? seriously doesnt make sense
@@ashborn5943 Well this ain't gonna be like Undertale first of all and the whole message of the game is to tell you "Revenge killing won't get you anywhere at all." The fact that this video shows each sparing cutscene with extra age shows that wisdom comes with time, and the lesson that vengeance and justice can be delivered in other ways, and that vengeance is not always the answer. And the complete contrast between all of the bosses is crazy. The botanist is the craziest, most primitive of all of them, his bloodlust evident in his fighting style. The artist, however, has become a pacifist. She wants no part of this, and she only uses her power to defend herself. The fighter is reckless, cocky. Fighting is his life, it's all his game. His style reflects both his fire powers and his personality. The CEO tries to find reasoning, however intimidating she may seem. Her life has brought her experience, and she knows the inevitable passage of time better than anyone. Yang is confident. Cold. He sees you as just another obstacle in his way. His fighting style is nigh-identical to yours, no gimmicks, no strings attached. The normal ending is gratifying, but something is missing. The sparing circle is empty, and you feel as if nothing's changed. On the extra fight, you go anime protagonist mode, standing up by sheer will, determination on your side. All five of the elements on the pendant unlock once you drop after the final fight. Except you don't actually die in the end. You fall unconscious at the end of the fight and then you reach a form of "enlightenment" which is shown by the dream-like sequence. Just like a true Sifu who has mastered all the elements, your Kung-Fu has reached the zenith of the mountain, your fist struck your enemy like lightning, and you have made their heart feel fear that you can end them anytime. We see at the post credits that one of the five coins have lost its glow (since you're back to the world of the living) and you now have a student calling you Sifu. *This is Wude* Special thanks to the guys in the comments helping to clear some vague stuff up. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

WuDe, 武德, is morality of a martial art practitioner. It include things such as 点到为止 (Stop at the moment you are going to hit them). The practice of Wu De is originated from the problem with Martial Art. Back in the day, people will have to fight, either with animals, people, nature(for resource), etc. To fight better with those things, people need to practice martial art. However, too much kill and practice of offensive moves make one's character filled with hatred, anger, or unable to control themselves. That is where Wu De steps in, to create rules of not kill, so one can learn to regulate their desire and heart away from the darkness.
Going back on my second run and showing restraint is the hardest hitting lesson Sifu teaches. The tools used to Kill are not the tools used to Save. This game is beautiful.
this reminds me a lot of ghost of tsushima’s last fight where u can spare or kill your uncle. not doing so leads to dishonour but at the cost of everybody being after you and doing so leads to honour but at the cost of your uncle
Dude u just spoiled me in a good way, because I'm doing ghost of tsushima rn,and I know u fight ur uncle at one point, but I was pretty sure there's two different choice, and I was thinking that if u want to keep him alive u absolutely mustn't kill anyone in a "dishonored" way. So thx
fitting that Fajar, being the one that literally killed a child with machete, gets hit with Karma the hardest, ending up miserable and alone in the slums where he gets killed with the same machete he used on Sifu all those years ago.
@@zacharyriley4561 On top of that, his silence only really hints at his guilt. Neither of the members were glad about killing you, he looks outright almost RELUCTANT if not for the resolve to do what they did. You sparing him leaves him so SHELLSHOCKED because he fucking killed you and YET you decided that he is not to be snuffed out. On top of realizing it isn't an expression of weakness, you literally could kill him any time, even the fight was less a fight and more a comedy show considering you have to STUN THE BOSS TWICE TO GET THE SPARE OPTION! Meaning you have such skill and lightning hands that you make it full on CLEAR that they stand no fucking chance.
Without getting into the whole debate of if revenge killing is okay or if ""mercy"" (I hesitate to call sparing them a mercy) is dumb, I feel that from an outside perspective the sparing might've gone over better if the bosses looked absolutely wrecked after the fact. Take the Botanist for example, he looks completely and utterly disgraced after you opt to not give him a close shave. That astounded look, the way he refuses to even *look* at you, it's pretty clear you've destroyed him in a way he can never recover from. A thing I feel some in the comments section are lacking is the acknowledgment that revenge is alot like love, in the sense that both are incredibly personal to the person desiring a drive for either or. How they find that closure may not be "getting even" as it were in the traditional eye for an eye sense. These are serious martial artists you're going up against in game, some degree of mythics they are too. You displaying that you could *very easily* kill them, and simply electing not to isn't just a display of morality or forgiveness (though it may be for the Protag), it's a power move as well. You broke them, destroyed their confidence in their own styles and resolve. You were the game boss that came along, beat their ass so righteously that they gave up the will to fight. It's most certainly not weak to destroy someone's confidence in their ability and prowess. And I think they could've gotten that point across better with just a bit more satisfying cinematography for spare options.
Yeah, that's part of the whole way the game is presenting wude. Sure there's definitely the whole moral and philosophical aspect, but like you said, in the more practical sense, the player character is literally showing that "I can stop you anytime." It's the whole fighting without needing to fight thing that the old sifu was saying.
@@puffalbero5040Or more importantly gang up on you when you're weak. All the lectures about being right or merciful isn't going to mean jack, if they just kill you. Because at the end of the day, the thing that truly gets the point across is effectiveness not theatrics or mind games.

Am I the only one who prefers the bad ending? Some of the Boss didn't deserve forgiveness, only the Artist, but even though she said she didn't want to fight, she didn't stop trying to kill me.
at first i didnt know how to spare bosses and i was a bit thrown off by that, then i realized that i DONT want to spare them. no way you kill my father then me and expect to walk away. feel bad for the artist tho
I don't think it's about who deserves what. I think it's about whether the main character gains something at the end of their life's journey. The "good ending" is not good because the bosses/assassins survive. The "good ending" is good because the main character can beat their own obsession and find peace of mind.
This game is the kind that is hard when you don’t know the mechanics and it doesn’t hold your hand trying to learn them. They took their frustration out on the bosses x’D
what i want to know is what happens to every boss after you spare them ? they live as a better person ? they commit suicide because of losing and didn't die in battle ?anyone else as curious as me ?
Well I dunno about Sean and the botanist but kuroki will probably keep doing her art, jenfeng will keep on being a ceo and yang will continue his healing treatments.
Nothing. They just go about their lives, very confused as to what the whole point of that was. The MC could have forgiven them from his house. He didn't have to drag himself all the way to their workplaces and beat up all their people.
@@repthe21st66 I feel like you missed the narrative meaning behind it. They sought the talismans that the Sifu safeguarded for what they claimed to be benevolence when it was just selfishness and greed. Sparing them when they know they could have been killed breaks their delusion of being the hero and humbles them. Now they basically have to figure out who they are, especially since they now know they live only due to the grace of their presumed inferior.
@@AronSilverwind And I think you're assuming a lot of things that are in no way shown in the game itself. It might be what you said, but it just as well could be what I said for all the game tells us.
Honestly (call me crazy) but the way I see it, some people might be happy with blood soaked revenge and others might be happy with the opposite. Judging by the endings we know which path brought the protagonist true conclusion.
sparing is probably the hardest to do. especially in a brutal game like this. also I didn't even know you could do that. but judging by how hard Coryxkenshin raged at this, mercy out the window😅😅😅
The way I see the endings is this. Kill all the bosses: They did it, the deed is done. They got revenge for their fathers death. But now that that anger is gone, the motivation and drive, what's left to fill it? Sadness. Regret. Indifference. Cause now you ask yourself, was it REALLY worth it? Is this what the person you did this for wanted? And does this really make you any better? To kill a killer, you must become a killer. And that is what you become in the end. You become no better then them, cause you killed for a cause you thought was just. Same way they killed for a cause they thought was just. And you can see this in the MC, cause once that anger was satiated and satisfied, it became clear it didn't bring him any closer to the peace he wanted. Spare all the bosses: Doing this is may seem like an act of weakness, But there's more then one way to pass on a message, to make clear an intention without the need of bloodshed. As Sean said, "I recognize that uniform. It represents a school for the weak and feeble". By sparing them, inches from death, you make clear to them not only how wrong they all were, but also make clear if you really wanted to or if they want to try fight you again, you could kill them. And by doing this, even with his death, the MC finds peace. He fully understands, demonstrates and now has Wude. The funny thing is that many believe it's the MC we see in the end and Yang brought him back because of sparing him. Cause it's implied that with the bad ending, the MC used the Talisman to go back and do things the right way. But I think it might be Yang, since a single use from the Talisman is gone. He did the same thing the MC did, he went back to do things the right way this time. Now I can't say which is true since we don't get enough evidence to solidify one or the other, but I like things that way cause it's up to what we believe is true and our own interpretations. Same way with Ghost of Tsushima's ending. Yes it seems very black and white, but when you delve deeper into it, there's a lot more elements to consider that make the final choice tougher on both sides. (My friend and I chose different endings for that game, but for the same reasons)
i agree with you, it could be much better if yang threw the pendant on you knowing you won't live long, and you both go out there without killing anyone else anymore, but i still felt satisfied, that you don't get to live through hell on the end, but a place the character believes is a paradise of the choices he made, which was to spare everyone
Do you have to spare each boss in a single run? Or can I go back a level and just kill them? Like if I already spared the Fighter, but want to improve my age, do I have to spare him every time I repeat that level before moving on?
Nah they die. Never give your opponent another chance to kill you. the whole showing mercy idea is good on paper until they at your door again and they jump you
Yup. If you're beating them up, you're basically committed. Besides, the mind break angle is stupid. They're not going to think: "Man, this guy is too strong, better not mess with him." But: "Man this guy is too strong. Better work together and kill him ASAP. " Even ignoring that. Even if some of them come around like Kuroki. It only takes one of them swearing vengeance to give you hell when you least expect.
THIS. It's been a year but like coming back to this video and seeing the comments, holy shit. Sparing sounds good on paper until they all come back to jump you. This whole sparing leaves a better message dumbass mentality is just wack.
Fajar would probably beg for death, as he probably feels enslaved by the life of crime. Sean would probably just sulk. Kuroki would feel a sense of pride and Jinfeng would just leave to brood.

They look at you with shame, but you look at them with compassion. You show your enemy you can break them, when ever you want, letting them live show them a more powerful message then death.
Sparing Kuroki was the best option, yes she could've killed us instantly if she wanted to but she was sparing us as well. She didn't want him to get revenge in the worse way, bloodshed doesn't have to be brought into revenge. Becoming like your enemies is not the key.
So if you spare them you, you lose the final fight so the leader feels no shame and then die in the end but since your worthy of the talisman you get brought back and start a school. If you kill him your unworthy of the talisman and your ancester are like fuck off end of story?
I got so mad when I was fighting them I didnt even peep that this was a option I murdered them Without even second guessing it but in someway I didnt felt like I won I felt like it was pointless I felt lost

Ironically, it instills a greater sense of fear when you have them pinned, and about to deliver the killing blow, but don’t. It sends a sobering message that states: “Human life is not a game. I could have ended your existence within the blink of an eye, and there would be no one to mourn you. Live with that thought.”
Don't worry, Sifu didn't kill all their employees, he just gave them traumatic brain injuries making them never be able to perform basic motor functions ever again. or all their bones are just broken
I really wish they used a similar system from MGS3, that not only do the bosses matter, but also the goons/soldiers you fight. You kill about 150 people just so you can fight some old magic dude and then forgive his life. It’s a bit odd to me
Sparing them literally makes no sense. Maybe if after you clicked the spare option the MC told them to stop doing evil things or they will be back, but they don’t.
I know where you’re coming from, but the message is basically saying that you’ve become better than them, while they had to kill to get what they want, you were able to get what you want by just beating them, you never needed to kill
In my personal opinion; I wouldn't be able to forgive or spare Yang. x.x As far as i'm concerned, the rest could be redeemed by sparing them (which does send a stronger message). But Yang caused the corrupting choices each one made. He led them all down a dark road, letting him live might be the right choice, but putting myself in the protagonist's shoes, he'd see Yang as too dangerous to let live.
I can see that. There's a difference between doing the wrong thing, and being made to do the wrong thing and having everyone believe you're doing it of your own will. Even if it's hard to see it.
Yeah, that's what feels right to me when replaying the game, killing Yang is the closest thing to doing something to root out the evil of the hole operation.
@@trillzcrzystories I disagree. We are tied up by influences out of our control from the day we are born. Choices shape experience, but also the other way around. Choice is important. The disrespect in sparing them is showing that you don’t have to kill to prove your point, unlike the assassins

@OHGAS Wude isn't about not killing it's about piece of sprit. the fact that if you kill Yang in anger you become a child again is symbolic of you forever being trapped in that moment of truma. The fact that this video shows each sparing cutscene with extra age shows that wisdom comes with time, and the lesson that vengeance and justice can be delivered in other ways, and that vengeance is not always the answer.

No, dying then getting older is just the mechanic of the game.

There's a nice feeling of peace when seeing the Protagonist spare the bosses.
frisk?
Irl they would just get up and whack u wtf

Honestly (call me crazy) but the way I see it, some people might be happy with blood soaked revenge and others might be happy with the opposite.
Judging by the endings we know which path brought the protagonist true conclusion.
Aiden Pearce for example, he felt relief at finally avenging his niece, after killing a crime lord and all.
sparing is probably the hardest to do. especially in a brutal game like this. also I didn't even know you could do that. but judging by how hard Coryxkenshin raged at this, mercy out the window😅😅😅
Ahh hello fellow coryxkenshin fan
