Em Fletch that is exactly why I respect when artist stand firm in not explaining the meaning of their songs cause it gives the audience a chance to interpret it their own way and come up with all these crazy theories which makes it interesting and ever lasting imo. Bohemian rhapsody is a perfect example
Obviously I clicked on this because I was curious as to what he was going to say, but I genuinely think we need to stop asking artists what their lyrics mean. Sometimes it hits too deep. Sometimes, as Matty said, it changes. Most of the times it means something different to different people. Interpret it how you want. Make the song mean something to you. Don't rely on other's ideas.
I know exactly what he means when he says the meanings change and means different things at different times. Depends what mood I'm in, what kind of day I've had etc. That will determine my perception.
I get what you’re saying but I believe artists or any other producer entity should always have a meaning or message, even if transient and fluid, that they want to convey through their work. Too often pseudo-artists just conveniently use the label of “art” in order to justify their creation. They try the o establish absolute value in their creation by rendering its interpretation (and therefore the meaning and value it holds) purely relative. This way they can escape all criticism and relegate the most important part of creating an artwork, the formation of a statement, to the audience, thus creating a piece of art that can be universally acknowledged as valuable (because by saying that the audience creates the meaning of the work, the act of dismissing or critiquing the work would be tantamount to admitting to a lack of imagination or insight and the rebuke of the artwork would turn into a rebuke of oneself). Sometimes entrusting the audience to participate in the creation of value in this way is productive and appropriate, but not when the motive behind it is a desire to glorify or bulletproof one’s creation. And the sad truth is that most people who declare ambiguity and relativity in their work are just using this degraded form of nominalism to validate their work which they’ve created for no particular purpose except for the accumulation of fame and wealth. For whenever an artist reserves a space on their artwork to sign their name, they are thinking not of the art or the value in the art but of fame and self-preservation.
Anyways, that’s just my opinion. I realize my view can be criticized as a disenchanted and operationalist account of art and that I cannot repudiate. Feel free to chime in and correct me where im wrong or just down right destroy my argument.

holly bartley my mistake he is from Manchester and grew up in Newcastle and Cheshire that is how you can hear a bit of Northern in his accent also his dads a Geordie.

I admired, respected, listened to each music and interview video, dreamt, wrote letters to, and thought about Matty for a long time and when I seen him on stage... in flesh.. I felt pure happiness. Back then when I went to the concert I was young, depressed, had a lot going on. I have a video of him looking directly at me for a solid second or two. I can't explain it... anyways, Im happy now, I put all my pieces back together and all thanks to Matty and his music who knows where I would be. Thank you. I will always respect that boy no matter if his hair or music changes.. sooo yep
I honestly do think that Matty is one of the most curious creatures to live. Sometimes he seems so closed off and other times so enjoyable and honest with us. He talks about being addicted to drugs but he looks so happy I don't care as long as he's okay. I don't picture Matty to be the type of person to hurt somebody while in the correct state of mind. God, we all need somebody like Matty in our lives.
He's soooooo well spoken and posh I just bloody adore him!!! Plus, brilliant musician!!

i love the 1975 and i’ve been following them since the start but life got busy and when they weren’t coming out with anything new for a bit i sort of went off and listened to some other bands and waited for them to release something new. you can be a fan of a band and not know every detail of a members life :)
I didn't know about The 1975 and Matty Healy up until 2, 3 weeks ago.. I regret not giving attention sometimes to songs on the radio or elsewhere. I would have known about this band way earlier if I would have had better attention 💜 I love their music 💜

Federica I believe Jane was a fan of the band who had their 'box' (you know, what's featured on their album covers) tattooed on her arm who sadly took her own life at just 16.
actually I got informed and I think it was a guy named matty that was 20 yrs old and took his life before a show. Healy had to read on stage a message that this guy's friends just sent him. There's footage of that moment. I think he changed the age to 16 and the name to be respectful. But also I think it's more like an example, because when you're in a popular band among teens, this shit unfortunately happens. and It's hard to bear. *But..... I still don't get why no interviewer asks him about that line, it looks like they're all scared to mention it*
It seems pretty self explanatory to me. Give yourself a try. life is short so live your life even when things get painful. how will you ever know what you are made of if you don't live it? So go through it and learn what you are made of. Seems pretty simple and good advice to me.
