Yeah, I've not been sure what it is. But no matter how you spin it, I can't see the railen.....just doesn't match up image wise, even if destroyed. Star citizen gets scale very well.....but its also deceptive because being 1km away from a hammerhead the hammerhead doesn't look very big, it's not until you get closer that you realize it's pretty big. FYI, in the opening shot, they aren't just 4 Bengal Carriers. The Krugeri is the main large carrier in that fleet while the rest of the Bengals in that fleet are battleship variants of the carrier, sporting 3 to 4 of those super heavy rail gun turrets. Safe to assume that they trade their carrier capability with more space for ammunition and firepower emplacement. And it's the Idris Frigate, not corvette :) And the Hammerhead is a corvette, not a gunship :)))
Thanks for clarification on the carriers. I swear the info on corvette/frigate stuff must be different depending on where you look because the RSI website literally says Idris "Corvette" and Hammer is "heavy gun ship"
@@LevelCapGamingI think the Idris was planned to be a corvette. But as it got sized up and became humongous, they decided to change the class to frigate.
To be fair, Frigate and Corvette are a Combat Roll designations. Not an indicator of size. Correct, this specific xi'an ship was leaked years before the Railen was even a concept. I wanna put it around 2017-2018. It's a much much larger cargo ship for the xi'an and personally i'd love to see it in game as a hull series competitor.
I highly doubt the leader of their fleet is out their boarding ships. Other trailer shows his character in the bridge of the king ship where he would be
Yep, one is actually playable with several storylines and companions, and the other has real time planet to space flight. Too bad the physics engine wants to kill you all the time, but that's a worthy price since the game looks so pretty.
When the bagpipes kick in , my hair (much like yours) stood on end. REALLY well done trailer. At 2:05 , I believe the UEE Retribution Dreadnought is the largest NAVY vessel , sporting a length of 2,700 meters & a width of 700 meters , approximately 3 times larger than the Bengal Carrier. The Retribution will be attached to the 65th Battle Group, 2nd Fleet at some point during the Battle of Oberon. This game is going to be ground breaking! *Takes a hit of Copium* WOOO!
Small note: Most of the "Bengal carriers" in the opening shot are actually Bengal Battleship types that we haven´t officially seen before. They have two absolutelly massive turrets on the top front half of the ship and one on the top rear, similar to the american fast battleships of WW2 and the Yamato. They were leaked in the internal SQ42 showcase video that was leaked a year ago or so. The same applies for what looks to be a Bengal support carrier version that is just a shorter Bengal without the internal hangar front.
Did you notice on the Idris bridge that the screens the AI crew are interacting with are actually functional and seemingly reacting to their inputs (versus the the 2018 vertical slice)?. Super cool and immersive details! I hate it when AI characters poke randomly at random screens in games.
18:35 Would be kind of a neat thing to see if stuff like suit minimaps extracted their details from a host ship so if that ship were to be destroyed, the people relying on that ship's sensors to load up their maps with the most detailed information would lose that advantage. Otherwise seems pretty powerful to have something that can scan environments and highlight moving targets through concrete in only a worn suit. Where are all their sensors!
I watched both of your CitizenCon streams, and I don’t even own a PC to play the game. I just thought the tech was so damn interesting, and seeing Saltemike and your reactions to what was being shown helped me understand the importance of these breakthroughs and what their impact could be in other games. Thanks for that! 🤜🏼🤛🏼
@@UnderdogSMO SC/SQ42 is a high end PC exclusive. It would need to be severly downgraded for console, and CIG always held to the principle of not committing resources to a console version if it means compromising the game for PC, that's what all other developers already do with every game.
@@szeddezs there are leaks that cig might be meeting up with certain companies to plan a console port, though again, it's a leak, so take it with a heavy dusting of salt
To anyone who still thinks CIG is scamming people with SQ42 think about this for a moment.. Mark Hammel, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson and countless other respected actors have signed their names to this. No way in hell they all risk their reputations to a near billion dollar video game scam. I, as a very early backer, have been plenty skeptical at times and disagreed with CIG's sales tactics but never have I thought it was a scam.
Scam or not, remember Cyberpunk 2077 with Keanu reeves? Anyone remember how that turned out to be? Yeah just because there are these so called "respected actors" doesn't mean squat. Especially considering Chris Roberts is poor project manager. The game is still in production for 13 years for heavens sake.
@@Mr.Canuck Naw dog, haters = haters. Don't insult critical thinkers like that. There's a difference between being able to look at something unbiasedly so as to put it under scrutiny with valid informed criticism, and just echoing a bunch of headlines you read so you can act like you know better than other people when in actuality you can't be bothered to do any research or add anything of real substance to the conversation.
@@Mr.Canuck The vast majority of SC detractors are mentally unstable zealots. Only a minority hold good faith scepticism with rational explanations for their scepticism.
On the Galactapedia is says that the Railen was released in 2951 (with SQ42 taking place in 2945) though you mentioned it in the video. Is it a different ship or are they retcon -ing the Railen lore? I wonder.
About a quarter of the way through, and I think a really important detail you missed that gives context to this guide for those unfamiliar with Star Citizen and Squadron 42 is that Cloud Imperium Games generally avoids using conventional video game smoke and mirrors to accomplish any of their gameplay features, they go to ridiculous lengths to implement them with functional simulation and fidelity. For example, planets are fully modeled, and you can seamlessly fly in and out of atmosphere without or transit between different planets without loading. Someone who doesn't know this would look at LevelCap gushing over the boat section and say "right it's a token Call of Duty setpiece to start a level", when what it actually shows is that CIG has finished coding water physics and water vehicle physics that work with that same planetary body tech i described. Likewise they would look at him being awed by the view of the terraforming station from the ground and say "he's literally praising a skybox like it's real" when in truth that station is actually there, dozens of in-game kilometers above the planet's surface, and yet is so large it still dominates the skyline. What I'm saying is that without that context, LevelCap looks like an insane sycophant lmao.
THANK YOU. Everyone is talking about SC. THANK YOU for sharing it, thank you letting people SEE by their eyes what SC is. No more bullshit clickbait media can trash talk about SC anymore. SC is now way too far from anything else.
2:00 i'm not even sure that it's 4 bengals sinds the ones in the background look to be more gunship focussed instead of cariers (the 2 huge turrets on the front decks instead of the runway location)
The gameplay with the boat is not in the Odin system as you can see atmospheric terraforming satellites in orbit from that scene. The Odin system was considered uninhabitable because it is a white dwarf system... so its just being used by mining corps and criminals, AND the vertical slice that we saw in 2017 was in the Odin system... not a system you'd want to do terraforming in. The Odin system is a planetary system in the United Empire of Earth (UEE). It is made up of two chthonian planets, one gas giant, an unusual cosmic anomaly, and a white dwarf star. The anomaly was created when the first planet in the system was destroyed by its star, leaving behind a unique asteroid field beset by constant electrical storms. Corporations and research facilities that deal in dangerous materials conduct testing on Odin II
@@Grovelaar I've been trying to look through the systems to see which ones have been recently terraformed or that are actively being terraformed. There are several I've narrowed it down to, but not enough info on the SC website to make any conclusive pick. However, I was thinking it was either Oya or Horus due to the recent colonization activities in both systems.
One thing I've noticed from some streamers that I managed to see in their chat is there are generally people in the comments who had NO IDEA that this game was even real. Like they legitimately thought it was a scam and to see it being played and shown off they were blown away. All of them had the same sentiment - every time a claim was made "Show me", "let me see", "this can't be real" and then the video would, almost as if they were responding directly, show them the claim that was made and prove it. CitCon turned a LOT of heads. More importantly, the heads of people who were skeptical or even hostile toward the project and those people can be the most ardent supporters. I'm not gonna be the one to say "This one did it, guys", but I think the player numbers are going to go up.
It seems like it worked I was just looking at the funding section on the rsi site and they made over 30 million increasing on the 20th then peaking the 22nd and then going back down 🎉 I'm so excited for the future of SC 🎉❤
What's remarkable about that is that there's been many free weekends events that allow anyone to try Star Citizen out and see what all the fuss is about and clearly, a lot of those people that think it's a scam are thinking that because of what others are saying, either by news articles or comments online and it becomes an echo chamber where they don't know what they are talking about. With that said, I do think that CIG could make more effort at explaining what the big deal is with a lot of the core tech in the game and why it's so difficult to do, I see a lot in the comment sections where a lot of gamers don't realise what is actually going on and think it's nothing special compared to what they've seen in other games, a lot of us tech minded people see a lot of what's special about it and even we need reminders on that, but the average gamer is clueless on this and for me, it's underselling what CIG are trying to achieve with Star Citizen and I feel a bit of PR work on making it much easier to understand what's going on with the tech side could go a long way in winning over many of the average gamers don't know what's going on and end up falling for the echo chamber trap that we see online a lot.
@@fishstix4209The game can spot an unfair death, a few times I've tripped and died walking down my ship loading ramp and after about 20 seconds my character revived and just got back up.
I have seen it too, and honestly it is really sad to think about it. How the gaming industry has changed and turned out to truly be nowadays. I mean we have gotten a couple of good releases past few years. But one usually remembers the bad more than the good and for sure one of the biggest blow was cyberpunk, that launch really shook the gaming world. Other disappointments including but not limited to, games like battlefield 2042, Overwatch 2, Anthem, fallout 76, Redfall, and countless others have destroyed the trust in the consumer. I think we all are just tired of this BS, that major game companies put us through, we really can't afford the luxury of being hyped about a game anymore. Because if we do, we will just eventually get stabbed in the back and left with broken trust and -60 dollars. I wish I honestly could say it has not effected me, but unfortunately i can't and I'm not convinced by trailers alone nowadays and it takes actual gameplay to gain sufficient trust for me to decide weather or not to buy the game. Hopefully SQ42 will not disappoint when it launches. But I have to be honest the framerate in the SQ42 "I held the line" announcement is not looking promising. I know this is just a pre-pre look in to the game but still, we have seen similar framerate in past games gameplay trailers and the games turned out have that exactly poor framerate even worse in some cases. Framerate is one of the most important and most recognized parts in games because everyone knows that if the framerate is below expected it will completely ruin onces experience. So the framerate in the announcement for sure don't help in gaining trust by people who haven't heard of SC before and as expected this was one of the key complaints I saw in Asmons stream. I guess we will just have to wait and see how this game turns out, but I for sure will wait until I see FULL gameplay until I'm convinced in whether or not to will buy the game.
@@fishstix4209I actually know about the patch you are talking about, the infamous "faceplant" patch after the implemented force reactions :p That has been fixed since.
There is only one Bengal Carrier in the scene, there are two cruisers behind and two the right, as well as what we suspect are two escort carriers. These were briefly shown in the SQ 42 leak that came out last year, and while they have a similar aesthetic to the Bengal, they are unique classes of ships and are currently unannounced. They are however from the stretch goals from WAY back when.
This video was very helpful! I've heard of Star Citizen but never checked it out. I never heard of Squadron 42 and only watched this trailer a few days ago and I'm very impressed! visually the game looks incredible the detail in the models, voice acting and seeing the environments holy crap they look amazing but as a newbie to the universe, this video answered a lot of the questions I had. Amazing video! :D
I have been following CIG and the development of Star Citizen for a few years now. I don't really have a horse in the race, I don't follow hype trains or hate trains, but I must say, the progress over the years has really been incredible to watch. When I first heard about it and looked it up almost all I could find was videos calling it a scam, never going to be finished, and on and on. It's been interesting watching all the negative voices slowly fading into obscurity as more and more updates have come out. The more I have looked into it the more confident I have become that if anyone could pull of this, essentially breaking into the first AAAA game, it's CIG. They are passionate about it, they don't care about defending themselves from haters, they just let time and work do it for them, they don't care how long it takes, they have a vision and they will see it brought to fruition. Once Squadron 42 finally comes out, if it comes out good, its going to cost me a lot, because I'm going to be building a flight simpit and a new computer with 4090 and 13900 and 128 gigs RAM
this was actually a very informative video from the lore side of things, as i am mainly concerned with gameplay, tech, systems and features. it's great to see CIG, Star Citizen and Squadron 42 getting more recognition. now i just patiently wait for Ranger bikes, roads and camping gear 😥
>>now i just patiently wait for Ranger bikes, roads and camping gear 😥 Amen! ...hol'up... I just had an epiphany. We just saw in 'Talking Ship' portion of citcon, an ursa rover and I was wondering why we'd need another ursa... could they have added a bed in back? Being able to go out exploring the planets/moons and then log in & out from it! That would be almost as good.
@@GUNNER67akaKelt nah, i am pretty sure it will be a utility URSA for either recon, or medical. the devs did make a portable bed the for could bed log from during a SCL last year iirc, so there is hope there at least.
A lot of people have been waiting a lonnng time for this little confidence boost in the project. Whilst we've heard similar things before, we haven't seen it. Many have been patiently waiting, some are upset and cynical about the delays. But regardless this is good news for everyone & in any case it's technically marvelous. For the folks out there who haven't been following and just figure "whatever, wake me up when it's done" - that's the right way to approach this bananas early-access mega-project, but now may actually be the time to put it on the radar. This demo was very much aimed at their own internal audience, it doesn't really show much about the game for the average gamer.
100%. This SQ42 is a finely curated video passed off as gameplay, a honed tactic they've been using very successfully for over a decade to drum up hype and money. "Soon! Imagine! Buy a jpeg! Limited quantities! Feature complete!" Those devotees rife with sunk cost fallacy, cognitive dissonance and lacking critical thinking is CIGs core audience, it works.
@@Mr.Canuck So you're in the "upset" camp. I think it's a bit pointless casting aspersions. Plenty of people are fully apprised of the situation and fine with it. Don't assume everyone who funds the product are idiots, they just have a different look on it. They've only said it is feature complete, which it is. People do with that information whatever they want.
2:20 I know this is just a video but tactically having spaceships that close together is never a good idea….. just like when we were in Iraq and Afghanistan we never had our vehicles that close together in case of a IED…. That way if there’s an attack, we’re not stuck and we’re not catching shrapnel from the exploding vehicle.. you need to have an escape route if possible…. In space there are a ton of escape route but an explosion from those massive ships could incapacitate the other ships.
Just letting you know that the Javelin destroyer is also in multiplayer and can take part in fights during the Xenothreat event, in addition to what you already said
The only reason I can think of for having a modern aircraft carrier style launch in zero-G at 14:10 is to maximize your exit velocity to make it harder to kill exiting ships. You don't need to generate lift in zero-G because, well there is no gravity to fight
Thanks Level Cap. Id like to say Im excited but I have been watching clips for 10 years. When SQ-42 is actually out.. I'll be prepared to wait a month before I try to play it. Hell I am not even playing Live anymore ..
The red room is probably not a Vanduul ship but the Xi'an hauler Cal Mason mentioned, the triangle design can be found in the Karthu-Al ror example. And the shifting gravity platform is probably Xi'an as well, the Xi'an are big in gravity tech.
I wouln't hold my breath, I have a good pc with an RTX 3070 but can't run the multiplayer well because it needs 32gb of system RAM, the PS5 has 16gb just like my machine.
Thanks for the comparison of old and new showcases. That would make in interesting video in itself, with a comment by a graphic professional. Maybe a colab with Morphologis?
17:52 has some Event Horizon Vibe going on. My guess is that this is some kind of artificial black hole device which allows the vandul to jump in a real havoc.
Let's nit forget this is a very small bits and pieces video of what will be ingame. All of the epic ship battles are still for us all to discover when we actually get to play it in 5 more years. The polish phase can be delayed and halted for many many reasons so keep your high hopes in check.
Been keeping an eye on Star Citizen for years, haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Excited to see that there’s massive movement. Really hoping it’s finally released soon, I’m over Starfield and need a consistent space fix.
For the barrel puzzle, everyone seems to think they were just making it heavier, but if you look at the screen output they were making the contents of the barrel unstable, and thus I assume explosive.
You might have something there. That looks a lot like a pioneer. It would also coincide with the player housing starting development. Which is why, I think, the Galaxy is next in line for development after the Polaris, because it's one of the outpost building ships. So yeah, the Pioneer might be further along than they let on. 👍
@@GUNNER67akaKelt I agree with you. The thing that makes me think its a Pioneer variant is that its concept and what we have so far already looks like a freighter that has side "arms" to hold cargo, base modules, you name it... It looks future proof in that regard. For example, the VTOL engines are exclusive for the base builder variant due to the need for it to get in atmo. Also, another thing is, these ships in SQ42 don't have to be completely finished, especially if their movement is scripted, and they can showcase them in the campaign as concepts and if there is an interest for it, they will take advantage of that fact! :D
If this game comes out and plays anything close to as good as it looks, I am so looking forward to it. I have researching a lot over the past few months Star Citizen trying to decide on whether to buy it, since Bethesda's Starfield in my opinion so horribly failed. This makes them look this just amatuers. I think before I buy I just wish Star Citizen would allow a DEMO if they are so confident in their game and take a chance on us wanna be Star Citizen gamers instead of just showing us clips of the poilished game. It looks 1000% better than SF but that doesn't mean it plays better or I can navigate it better. It has all the elements I am looking for though. Great video.
As a heavily invested star citizen player. It's clear that this dev update was to reach a broader audience than the elite pilots. We invested for a reason. We know what star citizen is about. It's the casual gamer that should be googling this game right now. So be patient and explain the game to them.
Missed a few more actors- eleanor tomlinson(the redhead at the end of the table in the mark hammil scene) shes in quite a few bbc shows. Henry Cavill, mission impossible, man of steel. Yea the cast for this is loaded more than any game ive seen.
As a total noob, I admit I just know the name "Star Citizen" but I was really blown away by seeing this new trailer for Squadron 42, I had no idea. I play games on PC but I'm not a keyboard/mouse player. I tried to find some vids recently about trying star citizen with a controller but I've not seen any vids that are intuitive to play star citizen with a controller. I'm hoping to see something of Squadron 42 that you can play the game with a controller. Before this comment gets the obligatory "keyboard and mouse is better" or "learn how to play with keyboard and mouse", guys I'm just like you, I love pc games, Ive got a 3600 and and a 3060ti, I live pc games, but keyboard and mouse is just beyond what I'm able to do, once you get to understand me and what i'm able to do, someone help me to try to play the game with you.
From all the game I know it's certainly one of the worst to play with a controller, as it is a simulation you already dont have enough space on a large keyboard for all the bindings, you already have to bind duos of input to have everything working. So yeah, maybe de will see some kind of support for controller in the future but atm if you don't have a phisical problem that make it impossible you should Still give it a try
@@bingbong6422Yes true, and it varies project to project- but 2024 as a SQ42 release is virtually impossible. I'd love nothing more than to be wrong on this though.

Lets make this really quick... Squadron 42 is a standalone game separate from start citizen. It's campaign driven and can be played in co-op. It's not star citizen which is a "MMO" but it is in the same universe. (for those who don't know what this is)
@@TattleDelta Possibly. Too bad Cyberpunk and some of those other games that came out in crappy, broken condition didn't take the time they needed to release it when their games were ready.
This is much needed since it's creating a lot of buzz since Citizencon and it's annoying as hell that lots of commentary on starengine and this is a Cutscene and not showing the game tech that's completed
I know this is single player but is it going to be just a linear campaign? Or will I be able to fully explore Odin and Vega systems like Stanton from SC when I'm not doing a mission?
I believe it'll be more like a last of us type linear game. Like here's an area you can explore until you find the path to the next area. But with it being this size it'll be a much larger area to explore. You have to remember you're a fresh pilot in the military you can't just wonder off into space and freely explore.

Yep, one is actually playable with several storylines and companions, and the other has real time planet to space flight. Too bad the physics engine wants to kill you all the time, but that's a worthy price since the game looks so pretty.
@@Retro_RackhamSC from what I'm learning Starfield modding community may reach that level before this game comes out.
Bought the Kickstarter and haven't really kept up with news since. 10 years later I am incredibly impressed and excited. This is my dream MMO.
I'm like you, but 10 years was avoidable, much due to scope creep
and you will wait another 10 years. its not even remotely finished.

Never played Star Citizen. Always excited to see you cover this and excited to follow this project through to completion. Even if it takes decades :)
So if it’s not odin, which System do you think It could be?
@@Grovelaar I've been trying to look through the systems to see which ones have been recently terraformed or that are actively being terraformed. There are several I've narrowed it down to, but not enough info on the SC website to make any conclusive pick.
@@fishstix4209I actually know about the patch you are talking about, the infamous "faceplant" patch after the implemented force reactions :p

@levelcapgaming check 13:28, is it just me or does that guy walking towards you 'consciously' AVOID that fuel line??!

The only reason I can think of for having a modern aircraft carrier style launch in zero-G at 14:10 is to maximize your exit velocity to make it harder to kill exiting ships. You don't need to generate lift in zero-G because, well there is no gravity to fight

The red room is probably not a Vanduul ship but the Xi'an hauler Cal Mason mentioned, the triangle design can be found in the Karthu-Al ror example. And the shifting gravity platform is probably Xi'an as well, the Xi'an are big in gravity tech.
This was the part of Star Citizen I was the most hype for, and I'm glad to see squadron 42 turning turning out well. Hoping for a Ps5 port!

19:25 This actually looks more like a Pioneer.
19:26 That's actually a Pioneer variant cargo/tanker, the bridge is the same minus the VTOL side engines!
This video is my first introduction to Star Citizen. It feels like I went from never knowing it to a livelong fan, I don't even know how to explain it

I'd be surprised if you can't use a gamepad and it wouldn't surprise me if Squadron 42 has a console release eventually.
From all the game I know it's certainly one of the worst to play with a controller, as it is a simulation you already dont have enough space on a large keyboard for all the bindings, you already have to bind duos of input to have everything working.
