    After posting this video an old fan reached out to me to let me know they had all the Lover material and sent me all of the original recordings. They had everything but the two demos. By some miracle there was a cached version of them on my Bandcamp app on my phone where I was able to rip the demos off. So now all of the Lover material is back on Anthill Recordings, check it out if you're interested :) anthillrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/lost-then-re-found

      Funny story- I did see some of my songs getting massively streamed in China. Half a mill or so over a year. But it's on their tik Tok that I can't access, so I have no idea what people are doing with it. It's so agonizing.... Meanwhile can't break 100 listeners on Spotify (though I shouldn't complain bc a covers record I did has got me higher than before)

    Great message Justin. Really appreciate your talent and perspective. For me my music is expression of who I am, what I feel today, and can leave behind me. Kind of like a photo, or a painting. We (or others) may not appreciate them now, but once we are gone they remain a part of us to leave for others as a vapor connection to any point in the future. My music is a part of me to enjoy in the moment, and can leave behind to connect to the future for those I love.

    Hi Justin, thanks for this video, it's really important for a lot of artists, in my case since 2019 I was uploading my music experiments on IG and I wanted to release some EP but I didn't have the courage, that final push you know. Finally last year I released it, my first EP and my second EP a few weeks ago, and I feel really proud of my music, the work and time I put on these albums. I have the support of some people and for me it's amazing when someone tells me that my songs provoke emotions and they have a good time listening to them it's priceless. I think that the first reason to make music is of course, my love for it and my desire to express what I feel through these sounds, but if my music reaches someone across the globe and those people feel something deep listening to it, it's something that I will treasure forever.
    Thanks so much for this, your channel is great.

    I don’t know if I ever babbled before about how much your music has influenced and inspired me but this post seems like an appropriate time to do so. I saw you play a handful of times in the 90’s. I was probably 14 or 15 years old the first time. Those shows inspired me and a few of my super close friends to start a band and a year or so later we were opening for Glendale. I’ve adored the process of making music for all those years after that. That process formed life long friendships and gave me so many amazing adventures all over this blue marble we live on. The 15 year old me and also the adult me thank you for inventing your jams and sharing them with all of us. I’ll never forget watching you crush those drums and thinking you had to be an octopus or something. Thanks Justin…..

    I appreciate the message. For me there’s a difference between “giving up” and “letting go.” Growing up in the same generation, the music community message was “keep practicing/working, make the right decisions, hire the right people and you too can have a career” but that reality really doesn’t exist much anymore. I have watched a couple of Rick Beato videos and it gives me comfort that I’m not imagining this or not alone. The filmmaking facet of social media really is not in my skill set. It’s like a blacksmith training all their lives and suddenly gets handed a sheet of leather and then having to make the sheath too. Yeah, Mtv was a thing but for my tier of music industry, you toss $500 to a film school grad and hope it gets played once on 120 Minutes. It has made me re evaluate that I do have other creative skills for me to explore though. I keep remembering that at age 47, Patrick Stewart suddenly became a huge tv star and Judy Garland also died. Beginnings and endings. But it is coming up fast. One thing is for certain though, if you decide that it’s not going to happen then nothing else will make it happen for you.

    I still go to lessons once or twice a month, the shame of not mastering a new technique or playing a song flawlessly keeps me honest.

    It took a while for me to accept my music didn't really connect with other people (it mostly confused them, lol!) People did like me as a bass player playing other peoples music, but those are two different things I guess.

    Did you know John Cougar Mellencamp hated Jackie & Diane when he wrote it and didn't want to release it until Kenny Aronoff did his thing on Drums (And Aronoff was this close to getting fired by John and had 2 mts to come up with that game changer) Why did I bring that up. I just listened to your "Lover" Material. Dude to my ear's that's the best material you've posted so far. Very "Door's" like 🤩. I know you stated it was recorded in your Dad's garage with a 4 track tape. I think if you can re-master or re-record that material with todays tech, you've got some seriously good material. I'm not a recording engineer. But the musical content is really good. Will spread the word. Thanks for uploading Justin 🙏

      Thanks for listening! Only the demo stuff was recorded on a 4track. The rest was at Kim’s studio “Frozen Sound” and on a Teac 8 Track I had, and the first 4 songs were my first digital recordings done on a computer.

    I watched Rick Beatos's interview w/Stewart Copeland, its interesting that mega hits like "Roxanne", "So lonely" etc didn't make it ! Copeland states, its one of his crappy songs (his word's, not mine) made it to UK's top of the pops and that was the big opening for The Police to get Roxanne re-released. Same deal with Aha's "Take on Me". Pet Shop Boys 1st hit "West End Girls" was a flop and took years. And lets not forget Kate Bushe's 89' "Running up the Hill" didn't go anywhere until what 2023 ? When it got air time on Net Flix's "Stranger Things". PS: Now you got me curious to look up your old bands material ! 😛

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  3 месяца назад +2

      Yep, those are all great examples! I love the Klark Kent stuff (Stewart Copeland). He re-released all that material recently. Still I think it's important not to count on stuff like that happening though, and only keep focused on the creation, and perfecting of one's craft. If these are the goals, outside influence does not become part of the equation.

    The problem with you tube content creators is that they are forced to create videos just for the sake of the channel ... slowly you lose your interest and it becomes a routine...and soon it can lead to frustration... So I would suggest people to reduce the amount of contents they create or atleast have a control on it....

    • @demonicsweaters

    Integrity of this video could not have said it better myself social media is more or less a waste of time in many aspects I've been on 5 record labels in the states and overseas and I've got 19 followers on RUclips it's more about getting in touch with labels and Distributors and sending physical copies in trade for the record labels music in trade for your own music can you come out on top by having your music distributed by the labels and collecting music from labels that you don't have to pay for it costs you is maybe $9 of Media Mail tell me about 20 or 30 CDs I've tried Facebook I've tried Instagram I never even tried Tik Tok because it just looks really stupid I'm old school I did the things that old school way still I think a lot of young people don't get it lakes and attention on social media and in a big way it's just a waste of time if you're doing that and not concentrating on creating something that you want to hear because nobody else is doing it that's the biggest point your video hits the nail in the head
