- Luciano Pavarotti sings Duca duca and Possente amor mi chiama from act II of Verdi's Rigoletto.
Live 1981 - Rigoletto - The Metropolitan opera orchestra conducted by James Levine
To bad?!
It is a live ferformance, not a studio recording...
He sings half opera before, then "Ella mi fu rapita", ant then immediately "Possente amor" (which usually missed in live performances)...
So, It's wonderfull that he sung it, because then he has another half opera to sing...
Bravo Maestro Pavarotti!
Kraus did it several times " con l'acutto finale"... and older than Pavarotti..mmm
@@yurorega1148 Kraus sang extremely nasal and his voice was higher than Pavarotti's
Viva Verdi !!! Viva Pavarotti !!! Enjoy the Opera !!!
Totally an intelligent choice by Maestro. Who knows what was going on when this was recorded. Even the director may have called for this . And after this many years, who cares? I'm thrilled to death to hear him sing ANY NOTE at all! The man was a rare gift and I adore his passion and his body of work! Bravo Maestro! I pray your memory live forever in our hearts!
I came to hear Pavarotti! I adore him singing anything high D or C does not matter !!
Bravisimo Pavarotti !!
Pavarotti good voice best tenor wold Caruso
Quelle prestance !!!👍👍👍
Pavarotti magnificent, I read that he originally wanted to be a footballer, what a waste of a magnificent talent, it was Dame Joan Sutherland who steered him to the opera world, we have much to be grateful to Dame Joan Sutherland for ❤❤❤
Unfortunately there will always be trolls on here... even though both OperaSnob and tonyantony1 are gone (hooray!!!) there are still many others who readily press the one star button the second they see a video title with the word 'Pavarotti' or 'Tucker' in it.
Listen opera fans, especially those who have never sung an aria in their lives. It is hard enough to be a tenor, but hitting something like a high D (which btw sounds nice only done by a soprano, it's a ridiculous squeal when sung by a tenor) is near to impossible.
So, it's unfair to judge a singer who is giving his all just for one note, think about it...
P.S. I'm a tenor
I see your point, any note over C5 belongs to contralto, mezzos and soprani. Even if some are actually written by some composers (especially Bellini), they don't really do any justice to a tenor tessitura because they have to be sung in falsetto.
Tenors with beautiful high notes are those who can produce good mixed voice sounds from G4 to C5, but how many can actually produce decent mixed voice notes above C5? In the best of cases, they can produce an incisive falsetto instead of a squeezed sound for C#5 to F5, but they will sound like a soprano when they do, the manly tenor sound will be gone. And of course, tenors who are not strong enough redden badly when they sing high notes in a fast forceful tempo like in Verdian cabalettas. It's like a 125cc motorcycle over 100 Km/h, you may get it to run faster, but it will heat up badly and risks a breakdown.
@GermanOperaSinger It was more than his voice. He really captured the attitude of teh duke. I find it to be really italian, and Luciano nailed it, even if his acting was never great, the duke seemed natural to him. I also think he's been the best recorded duke!
Luciano - the Best!
Caruso the best tenor the wold
Yeah... I understand :). I wasn't denying it's brilliant. I just really love his high D :).
Fantastic voice.
Just have to love those trolls. 2 stars?. What the hell.
Anyways, I agree with LordMoe9, my favorite duke was Pavarotti and none had a better voice for it in my opinion, at least the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Here he was past prime but listen to his performances in the 60s and early 70s in this role, wow!
effortless, god damn....
The same Pavarotti said that the duke was his favorite character of all the operas that he sang.
I see that three of the commenters on my videos, are here commenting on Maestro Pavarotti....He is not old here, but vise enough, not to sing the high D, that few tenors can sing . He was called "The king of the High C" but here he is older, stronger and darker.....I sang the opera through some days ago, and decide to film this aria, and listen, if it sounded terrible....(There are other videos on youtube..)
I thought that the D, had a great power, (not so much beauty) but I must say: Who has a beautiful High D of us tenors ? I sang the whole role, and also did the High d flat, in the duett, and it sounded better than the D.....
I sang a "Three tenor concert" in februar,in Háteigskirkja and I put some videos on youtube. I dare you, thehix, Germanoperasinger and Honken, ALL OF YOU have put bad comments on my channel... Listen to my newest videos, from the concert, and last year, and say, IF I AM GROWING as a singer .....I sang Che gelida manina,La donna e mobile, Komm in die Gondel, Þú eina hjartans yndið mitt, and duetts, Á vegamótum and Sólsetursljóð....(In the duetts, I sang the "bariton part"....)
MAY GOD punish you, if you are not fare.....
In addition to having already sung a lot, "thehyx" has never sung High D. Luciano Pavarotti is the great tenor of the century and his departure is a great loss for the work.
If he, in this issue, decided not to make the High D is a reason. The artist does not evaluate the D
EXQUISITO
Y el D agudo?. Se lo comio....
All high notes are hard and straining on the voice (in the long run), but if you have a naturally high tessitura then D's aren't that impossible. Just look at Rockwell Blake.
Pavarotti's D's were very small and thin (though very beautiful!) and this is probably one of the reasons why he didn't do them live. Doesn't take away an incredible performance of one of the hardest aria in the opera though! Viva Pavarotti.
Honken, then you've obviously never heard his high Ds in the Act III duet in Bellini's 'I Puritani' - nothing small or thin about those! I doubt if Rockwell Blake could hit them with such power....
No, I know, I got a bit carried away, but I still think that if this great one chose not to do the showy high D, he had his reasons, and there's more to singing than that...
hehe :)))
@mgdoom his tired.
Try and sing it yourself if it's so fucking important!
Amazing !! Too bad there's no High D at the end :(.
Fantastic but No HIGH C
First of all it's a high D and then find me another tenor that at age 56 sounds like this!
Neither there is a written high C (C5) in the score, final note is D4, and some tenors sing D5 instead as a tradition to show off, but D5 is a very high note for a tenor, particularly after a very demanding cabaletta.
What do we want!? HIGH D's! When do we want them!? At 4:03 !
kraus sounds nasal, sooo...
Definitely not.
