It's really good to see people using vintage lens on modern cameras, I personally got wide angle Vivitar lens and Helios lens for my A7 as well. Despite the adapters are really long the vintage lens really worked really well(and of course so much cheaper than the modern lens)
NicSasha there are 2 uses for it. its a shift only adapter, not a tilt. Tilt is to change the focus plane and make things blur in a different way. first if you are shooting buildings you can make them straight in-camera and retain the full quality of the photo. if you straighten them in a software you will end up cropping the photo and losing quality and your original framing composition second use you can take multiple photos at diferent shift positions and stitch them to make a picture taller or wider and retain the same camera angle. usually when you move the camera to take multiple pictures and stitch in software you would need to crop the borders hence again losing quality you end up with a different photo conposition than what you had intended when shooting. by using an adapter you can test many different lenses with different focal length at minimal cost. usually tilt-shift lenses are limited to only 17mm, 24mm and 90mm and they are expensive, heavy and big to carry as for vintage lenses, they tend to have a more filmic look they have less contrast and are less sharp than modern lenses that can make things look more digital. they are cheap, small and light
APS-C has an advantage in using full frame lens wit an tilt-shift adapter. Any lens that covers 35mm sensor could be used on APS-C cams as a tilt-shift lens. Kipon T-S (or shift only) adapters are good.
Is the "Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter - Nikon Nikkor F Mount D/SLR Lens to Sony Alpha E-Mount Mirrorless Camera Body" the right adapter for the nikkor 50mm 1.8 lens? :-)
I'm less and less convinced by the focusing on the Sony used to film these videos. Surely it's not that bad? :S Very interesting video though, thanks for sharing!
i don't think focusing is bad, but i question why he keeps using it when it always overheats on him. it's not even published in 4k, so why does lok put himself in that situation all the time. looks like a sony rx100 this time
CS No the a7S II don't overheat that badly. The one overheated in this video was the GX800/GX850/GF9. The a7S II could overheat in Hong Kong summer under the sun after like 15 mins before the latest firmware. Using the latest firmware it haven't been overheated yet
not gonna lie i get a little bit triggered that he's not using lens caps to store in the camera bag😝 but i realized that it should be fine...lens glass are not that fragile ...
The Nikkor 50mm f 1.8 AIS is magic. I use this on a Nikon D3300/D5200/D610. Well worth the low price, and on a Nikon DSLR you don't need a converter either. Alex.,
Hi, sorry I wasn't implying that the adapter was not needed for you, just that the lens is so good and works on Nikon DLSR's of all sizes and budgets. But good that you qualified my comment. Thanks Alex.,
Vincent Sorry for the late reply, I'm not usually logged in here. No I haven't tried the 1.4 yet but all versions of the 1.8 up to the AFD work great for me. Of course the older the lenses the more chance of flare so I would still use one that is properly multi coated.
Pray tell what tripod is Darren using ... Thanks!
i think the legs are velbon brand!
I think its the Velbon UT (ultrek) tripod
Hi everyone, its a (discontinued) Velbon Rexi-L
Hi Darren! Just wanted to say Singaporean to Singaporean that I'm a huge fan! Haha
+darren soh Thanks Darren!

I like how the edges of the a7 get worn off. I'd like to see a durability test on it, I think it would hold better than people think
Hi guys, can someone please explain me the usage of a tilt shift adapter with a vintage lens?

thank you very much!
What is the exact combo he uses as a Tilt-Shift? Could I use it with Sony Aps-C?

+Lulu Zhu That is a great point!
wow that tripod is pretty handy. thanks for sharing ❤

Lok! Welcome to Singapore! Are you still here?
Will the Nikon 50mm 1.4 Ais and 1.2 Ais also have a big image area to be shifted ? @darrensoh
Just wondering what head is that on the tripod?
Thanks.
Michael It's an Arca-Swiss D4 Geared Head.
OMG LOK YOU CAME TO SINGAPORE???!!!
What tilt shift adapters is he using?
Shadow I use Kipon Nik-FE Shift adapters.
that was very interesting!

+CS not an RX100... and the 4K gives Lok the ability to stabilise and crop if needed

The guy has good taste in watches!!!! Big shout out to the Sinn!!!
Neat bag

Everything so simple in a Landrover? Try a Corolla
Darren Soh nice Sinn watch.

Hi Alex, the Kipon shift adapter allows me to use it as a shift lens on the A7rII, with 8-10mm of vertical shift in landscape orientation. :)
Hi, sorry I wasn't implying that the adapter was not needed for you, just that the lens is so good and works on Nikon DLSR's of all sizes and budgets. But good that you qualified my comment. Thanks Alex.,
Darren, did you try out both the 50mm 1.8 AIS and 1.4 AIS, or is it just the 1.8 that has this large image circle? Thanks in advance!

IN THE BAG IT DOESNT EVEN MATTER
What's that... a real pro using Sony... Outrageous! 😂
Sony has the shittiest paint job ever. My a7sII's paint rubbed off with in 3 weeks of being baby. WTF?
