Born in Derby lived-in Long Eaton 1968 til 1974 went to Dovedale school can't remember much accept playing football along with Brian Clough and Nigel over the park
A town I was born and raised in (well, the village plugged onto the bottom of it called Sawley). It has offered a lot to the UK and still churns out a good deal of quality manufactured goods. Unfortunately many people who live here are totally unaware of the industry that churns away in the back streets and the town does get knocked a lot. The High Street has declined hugely over the past 12-15 years, but that's the changing face of retail. It is fairly well-known as towns go though. It used to have a Speedway Stadium that hosted car and motorcycle racing and that only closed in 1997 so there are lots of people up and down who know it for that, plus a lot of people who work in industries connected to the town are aware of us. For a long long time also, the two most important places in the UK for its manufacture of furniture were High Wycome and... Long Eaton! The one thing I wish us inhabitants who do is shout the town's name proudly! Unfortunately due to where Royal Mail sort the post we have a Nottingham postal address, and although we have absolutely nothing to do with Nottingham or Nottinghamshire, many businesses put that they are "in Nottingham" which erodes the identity a little bit every time. Why should we give credit to a city we're not a part of? Nonetheless a fantastic video. I genuinely think it's worth securing in an archive as a solid video record of a town in 2021.
Nah but no one follows that rule based on the county but rather they would base town like long Eaton being closer to Nottingham and more connected to Nottingham as a whole I live in long Eaton most people feel we are closer to Nottingham than darby and also long Eaton is surrounded by Nottingham towns like Toton and Stapleford right next to each other hand there is no darby town near Long Eaton and also we use NG postcode it makes more sense to be part of n
@@jackson1342 That may be your view, but it doesn't reflect the reality of the people of Long Eaton and certainly not of Sawley. I think they're fairly equally divided in Long Eaton. The Derby Telegraph and the Notts Post did an online survey and both came out at around a 50/50 split. Nothing can change the fact that it's in Derbyshire though...
Many thanks for posting this video. I´m from Long Eaton! The town centre has several nice buildings (the Carnegie-funded library is a protected building). The best feature of Long Eaton is its very big park, West Park, and the rivers and canals that run through it or close by (including the River Trent)
how pretty and green, plenty of beautiful bdgs and very few 60s monstrosities, must be one of the few largish UK towns with rail tracks cutting through though. thx

Well I am also a resident of Long Eaton, although I live in one of the nicer parts of town. Long Eaton is clearly a Derbyshire town, the facts don't care about how you feel on the matter.
There are no towns in Nottingham. Nottingham is a city and Long Eaton is another town, in Derbyshire. There's even a big sign saying so as you enter it.

Great to see the old town again after all these years. Some very nice areas shown too.
Great virtual walk from Long Eaton. Very immersive. I love it! Thank you for sharing friend 😊💚
Beautiful and calm town. Nice buildings. Thank you for the walking tour.

Hey thanks! Yeah the canalside walk towards the station is very pleasant. I'm not sure why Long Eaton isn't more well-known.

Yeah, the only other time I can remember going through a level crossing in a town centre was in Poole.
Newish follower. Great walk videos. I see you go to different city's and film. That's great.
Thanks, and yeah, that's basically what I do. Welcome to the channel! :)
