Peak Time Racing, I agree I own a '17 Signature coming from an XC60! I almost pulled the trigger on an RX350 but this CX9 was on par in terms of quality, fit & finish but cost $10K lower than the RX350 and had 7 seats vs RX's 5 seats! Definitely no regrets...
As a 2018 CX-9 Sig owner. The front driver seat is not at all comfortable for long periods of time. The front seats seem almost out of place as if they were an after thought. The motored positions help of course but in general do not offer very good comfort, I guess you'd have to try it for a 5+ hour drive non stop to understand. However, 8/10 Overall SUV.
7 seconds is quick enough. Hell, it's great given it's a big ass SUV. Really sharp looking, high quality well designed interior that's BMW/Audi esque, I'm assuming it'll be quite reliable... great offering, I'm sure it'll sell very well.
Love your enthusiasm in all your videos. This CX-9 is moving up the list for me. Does the middle row fold down? Most online reviews rarely give us the look with all available cargo space. I'm always curious if these could possibly be sleeping-bag worthy in a pinch.
Those 2 USB's in the 2nd row armrest could still be used if up, just feed the cord through there, should work, right? Matt, down the road I could see you in one of these, no doubt about it. Keep up the good work, surely it's being noticed😀
The first vid I watched from you was your Evo 9, and still providing great content!! You think you'll be able to get your hands on the new 2018 TLX A-spec SH-awd?
Really did seem like a responsive transmission on your drive. I could hear those kick-down while coming out of the turn. Consumption would be an issue, unless you really need those third row. My 2008 Rav4, which weights as much, but probably tougher (less light weight steel) would go twice as long in city driving.. Reason why I can't sell it.
Matt Maran Motoring it truly would!! Like you said in the video I hate putting something in the back passenger seat and walking back to get in and the car has locked itself!! Anyways keep up the awesome content!
I have a CX-9 but chose to go back a year in order to have the 276HP V6 instead. I took home a 2016 at the time and just didn’t bond with the 4 banger turbo. It sounded like my sons Mazda 3. Mazda should have offered a bigger motor option. My niece has the Signature $46,000 CX-9 and it has everything but when you start this beautiful SUV you hear a 4 cylinder.
Good timing, I raced my niece on the way to PF Changs Sunday in her 2018 Signature against my 2015 Grand Touring and I got her by a half to 3/4 of a truck ahead every time. We did two stop lights and two 40MPH roll, the second roll I reeled her in as she got the jump. Her and husband in the Sig vs. Me-Wife-Son in the GT. I'd say the V6 does quite well against the turbo.
JamCave Studio I said nothing about flat out performance. Partial throttle, quick response, towing, these are all things the 4 turbo will do better than the v6s. I’m sorry but those v6s have to scream to make any power and while it can be fun at wide open throttle, it’s not the right choice in an suv. To each their own but to claim the v6s is a superior engine for the application is just avoiding the facts to cling onto an engine you may personally enjoy more.
I agree, it's subjective. I don't care for the sound of 4 cylinder in such a nice SUV. I have a Mazda3 and Mazda6 also in my driveway, the truck shouldn't sound like those. I get what the market is doing with power adders, was in the Automotive business for 16 years. I'll take a powerful N/A motor over forced induction every time. I removed my 302 Vortech blown motor (488HP / 455TQ at the wheels) from my Mustang and swapped in a 347 Stroker (434HP / 491TQ at the wheels) and the Stroker is so much more solid. I had the blown application dyno tuned at least 13 times over the years, it was just so finicky with weather conditions. The stroker tuned 2 times and the second time was because I changed injectors and MAF. I'll be towing a new project Mustang with the CX-9 soon, maybe I'll get a diesel Ford pickup instead, jury is still out.
JamCave Studio I used to be the same until I realized the car market is moving that direction for a reason. Instead of making your peak torque for .05 seconds you make it for thousands of RPM like 1800-4500rpm. My dad has a supercharged s4 and I own a turbocharged mazdaspeed 3. The more aggressive turbo/supercharged cars will absolutely dominate n/a off the line and If boost is cranked up on the top end it’s even further exaggerated. And old cars are no reflection of the current state of boosted cars.
I test drove most of the SUVs near its price in my area. VW All Space; Santa Fe; Outlander; Sorento; Kodiaq; Pegeuot 5008; Rav4; Lexus NX; Nissan Xtrail; Subaru Outback; Honda CRV. There are nicer SUV out there like the Audi Q7; Benz; Jaguar and Volvo - but they all cost $30 to $40K USD more than CX9. For the price and what you get in return, it is really a nice SUV. Sorento looks bland and not much cheaper same as Santa Fe unless you get the poverty trim. But the exterior/interior and driving dynamics, 2018 CX9 wins out. I liked the Kodiaq/All Space 5+2 seater interior and drives nice, but it doesn't have as much room and interior doesn't feel as upscale as CX9.
I love the styling, but it has 3 real shortcomings at its price. 1. A 4 cylinder? 2. Ergonomics and electronics are about 2-3 years behind the times. And finally 3. A 4 cylinder?
MzrSpeed so all V6s are more dated than all 4 cylinders? If you’re gonna avoid this slippery slope, you should acknowledge that Mazda should’ve offered a turbo V6 for their largest vehicle.
This SUV feels a little in between. You got a toyotas to bang with and luxury lexus, and this in between ☺️ a good car for the money with some luxury feel
That shifter complaint is stupid. When your sitting in your car it tends to be moving or with the shifter in drive 99% of the time. When the shifter is in drive it won't block anything. Nitpick...
I test drove one, and found the driver legroom to be very narrow due to the wide center console. I bought a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T with the Ultimate pkg with a lot more options, for a lot less money.
so mazda markets all their vehicles to auto enthusiast who like to drive and then they engineer the engine response to soccer moms who don't care about torque steer, or performance driving....knob thinking...no wonder they only sell 1/10 their competitors.
Marsel Vitti lol Mazda is very reliable... do some research. My family has owned several and they have always been great. Same with VW. I am on my 3rd Passat, most reliable cars I have owned, and the list includes 2 Acura’s, which were not reliable at all.
Marsel Vitti again, do some research. You will find Mazda’s resale is in the top 3, along with Lexus and Subaru. And VW’s resale is way better than any of its American competitors and depreciates at a lower % than many other German manufacturers. If you wanna drive a snoozemobile Toyota or Honda, than more power to you. I will drive cars that are meant to be driven even if they depreciate at a slightly lower percentage. I cross shopped before I bought a new sedan and I found that VW and Mazda has the best offerings for my personal taste. I owned a 2013 Ford Focus before my Passat, and while it was very engaging to drive, it was slow in a straight line and almost always had something wrong with it, plus the interior bits started rattling and vibrating. And the depreciation on that car was insane, in the two years I owned it it went from $13k book value to $6k. That’s bad depreciation.
Just a little advise, slow down a little bit and use some fancier words and work on the tone a little bit. I felt like your going to lose your breathe. But I guess this is your style and people seems to like it.
This is the one SUV that doesn’t look dated to me. Looks even better than the Audi. I don’t like the motor though, should have been an option for something bigger.
Man, the way Mazda is going, whenever they make an Rx-9, it is going to be an amazing machine. COME ON MAZDA!!
‘17 CX9 GT owner here...it’s fantastic! So happy I picked the CX9 over the competition. A true drivers vehicle with the space for the family!
Peak Time Racing, I agree I own a '17 Signature coming from an XC60! I almost pulled the trigger on an RX350 but this CX9 was on par in terms of quality, fit & finish but cost $10K lower than the RX350 and had 7 seats vs RX's 5 seats! Definitely no regrets...
you can get apple android carplay at you local mazda dealer on a 2013 and up mazda cx5s as of last year the kit costs 199 plus labor
I think you've nailed all of the major bullet points on this exceptional family SUV. Would like to have one myself eventually!
I see you, enjoying the power delivery 😃
Nice review. I dont see these too often, but when I do I'm always impressed. They look very upscale for sure.
As a 2018 CX-9 Sig owner. The front driver seat is not at all comfortable for long periods of time. The front seats seem almost out of place as if they were an after thought. Yes, it folds down completely!
I have one. It’s a damn good suv. And is surprisingly good at towing also
TheDustyaman how much does it tow?
Even the engine has two cup holders. Nice!
Awesome review. Appreciate you using our song Sunrise in your video.
Hey Matt, when are you going to test the new Mazda6 with the 2.5T?
As soon as Mazda can send me one, but probably won't be until the summer sometime.
Great review! Lot's of useful day-to-day info that was missing in other reviews I watched.
Those 2 USB's in the 2nd row armrest could still be used if up, just feed the cord through there, should work, right?

Eres de los mejores Matt! Sigue asi
Another solid video Matt!

Can't you disable the walk away locking feature from the vehicle's settings menu?
You should be able to change that auto lock in the infotainment settings.. You can at least in the Mazda6. Love the video and Mazda Rocks!
Thanks! Do you mean just turn it off, or is there a way to adjust the proximity?
Should be able to turn to auto lock completely off!
Matt Maran Motoring yea. It’s in the setting in the infotainment.
Thanks, I do wish they'd adjust the proximity though because it would be a really handy feature if it allowed a little more distance.
Matt Maran Motoring it truly would!! Like you said in the video I hate putting something in the back passenger seat and walking back to get in and the car has locked itself!! Anyways keep up the awesome content!

JamCave Studio 4 banger turbo makes so much more torque than the old v6...and so much earlier in the power band.
Good timing, I raced my niece on the way to PF Changs Sunday in her 2018 Signature against my 2015 Grand Touring and I got her by a half to 3/4 of a truck ahead every time. Relatively speaking, this is a better vehicle than even a BMW X3 (which slightly overlaps in pricing).
Awesome video Matt!
I think Mazda should really try launching their Amanti luxury brand that they were going to in the 90's. Maybe in like a decade or so
The StraightPipes reported that Carplay is coming soon and will be a dealer option for models not sold with it. Hopefully its true
I test drove most of the SUVs near its price in my area. VW All Space; Santa Fe; Outlander; Sorento; Kodiaq; Pegeuot 5008; Rav4; Lexus NX; Nissan Xtrail; Subaru Outback; Honda CRV. Would you recommend if I buy this as my first ever car?
Wow no comments yet? I've never been this early
Wish they would bring back the Cx7 it was a perfect size
I love the styling, but it has 3 real shortcomings at its price. 1. A 4 cylinder? 2. Ergonomics and electronics are about 2-3 years behind the times. And finally 3. A 4 cylinder?
Compared to what a dated v6 with old technology and a lack of low end torque?
MzrSpeed so all V6s are more dated than all 4 cylinders? If you’re gonna avoid this slippery slope, you should acknowledge that Mazda should’ve offered a turbo V6 for their largest vehicle.
Robert D. Japanese vehicles are well known with their 4 cylinders, just like americans with their v8s :)

Everything is superb on this car, except Mazda really needs to stop with the gloss black in their interiors.
Unchainedmaple888 agree on the piano black gloss crap
I wish the cx5 had this engine. They could call if the sport or something
Did you show the trunk space?
NICE Review: 2018 Mazda CX-9
Here before 1 mil
Do you prefer the CX-5 or the CX-9?
If you watch till the end you'll see :)
liked before watching b/c i knew it was going to be good
Power outlet is similar to 911 location, near the center tunnel.
I test drove one, and found the driver legroom to be very narrow due to the wide center console. I bought a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T with the Ultimate pkg with a lot more options, for a lot less money.
review a Honda Odyssey
Great video
Not sure about the front end of this thing.
Good looking my ass
Review the Ford Mustang GT
I honestly love this car but the 4 cylinder and at this size and price??? Idk
Now I’m a Mazda owner I take that back lol def buy it!
Review a 2018 Toyota Highlander you’ll be pleasantly surprised
matthew armstrong cheap feeling compared to the competition
Great review- but can we please end the tired remark of "It's a nice place to spend time" when referring to car's interiors
nice vid
Good stuff
hi Matt
Didn’t know it’s a 4 banger.
its not bad
It has a great engine sound.
That wouldn't be bad mileage for a three row SUV. But you weren't driving an SUV
Very nice vidio
first oh yeah

:/ That 2016 GLA45 is still my top pick S/CUV
Look at that evil face 13:29
Everything looks good. Not the front.
Burning Octane then everything doesn’t look good.
With mazda reliability. I'll take the highlander.
Marsel Vitti lol Mazda is very reliable... do some research. My family has owned several and they have always been great.

Cheap interior. Matt you gotta get away from reviews like this. We don’t watch for Mazda family vans...
DATED looking, very very dated looking.
mrpmj00 get your eyes checked
How is this dated???
This is the one SUV that doesn’t look dated to me. Looks even better than the Audi. I don’t like the motor though, should have been an option for something bigger.
The Ford Explorer looks old looking.
Lol ????
