I always liked Richard Todd. Thanks for uploading this film.
He's very good looking. The part doesn't have a lot of range, but it's an entertaining enough film. I'm glad I saw it.
What a charming film.
The sound mixing at the start of this movie is awful, but it gets better when you get past the first 5 minutes or so. I'm glad I got to see it. So thanks for putting it up for us to see!
I love these old british films. Thank you for sharing it.
I love how the "thing" always drops out of a bag of "something" that just happens to rip open on the dock.
I remember this film because I've seen it before! And it hasn't changed much.
😃
So what are you saying? can I assume that that means you don't remember films that you have never seen? OR have you ever seen a film the second time that was different from the first time? You say this film "hasn't changed much" so it has changed? that's interesting, it's never happened to me and I have seen 1000's of movies🤣🤣🤣🤣
Richard Todd was the Glenn Ford of South African film. Always great playing police authority figures, giving an authentic portrayal of a driven, dedicated professional solving any challenges that arise.
Very Good! Great cast. Thank you Retro.
Good film, very much a Boy's Own type and I'll watch anything with the lovely Richard Todd in, I was lucky enough to see him a few times on stage and he was of course wonderful.
Richard Todd was in one of my favorite movies,Stage Fright.
Alfred Hitchcock's film adaptation of Selwyn Jepsen's novel "Man Running." That movie was also the first of three appearances of Patricia Hitchcock in one of her father's movies (the other two being in "Strangers On A Train" and in "Psycho").
Very nice film , thanks for the upload
What an interesting flim, have watched it a couple of years back, time to make a revisit I think.
Thanks for the upload.
Dr. Marianne Koch, born in 1931, 92 now, actress and real life GP ❤
"Death Drums Along The River" was the 4th of only 5 English-language movies in which Marianne Koch appeared during her 21-year career in movies and TV.
She played Kathy Gerhardt in the 1954 film "Night People." In 1957, she played Ina Schiller in "Four Girls About Town" and Reni Fischer in "Interlude" (the latter is a color remake of the 1939 RKO film "When Tomorrow Comes"). And in 1964, she played Marisol in "A Fistful of Dollars."
God willing, she will turn 93 this year - on my brother Martin's 62nd birthday. A very beautiful, talented, and intelligent actress, whose life turned out well.
Not a high cost production but a fine film just the same. Interesting plot and great location filming. Thanks for sharing
No actors were injured in the making of this film.
Good to know
Really?😂
I am enjoying this movie however It is sometimes rather maddening that the sound man didn't get the balance quite right. There are times that no matter how much I increase the volume and replay, I cannot discern some of the dialog as it is obscured by the background jungle noises apparently from insects and such.
But it's in color jupiiii😅!!!
I very much agree with dinacox. The sound mixing is terrible for the first 5 minutes or so, but after that it gets much better. That's very common here on YT, but usually the problem occurs with documentaries. But it does get better, so just push through the first few minutes.
@@cattymajiv I thought it was worst about 15 minutes or so in, when they were camping out overnight by the river, and in one or two other outdoor scenes. But you're right, it did seem to get better as it went on.
This may have been done on purpose so YT automated watermarking doesn’t flag it.
Very nice movie
The colours of that era are amazing! What a difference now that Africa does not play a part in our hearts and minds anymore.....as if it seeced to exist
Once Tarzan books and films diminished, so did Africa 😝
Richard todd i renember him in a few good films a good film with a nice plot
Really simple plot. Almost corny. But entertaining and cute.
If they were trying for "African Queen" style, it sure didn't succeed. Predictable plot, dialog, and attempts at humor. Humdrum but watchable.
@@nedludd7622 It's FAR from corny. One has to wonder what the problem is in this OP's head. Some kind of jealousy? The plot is reasonably good and so are the characters, as well as the great locations.
The African Queen itself wasn't great, and was very predictable, with Bogart being Bogart and Katherine being Katherine, as always. Both were terrible actors who made all of their films boring. They only got by on their names, while being pretentious and far too self important.
This one is not the greatest movie ever, but it's NOT boring. The story is quite unpredictable and the location shots are great. Richard Todd is gorgeous, and is an actor with a lot of range, although he isn't able to really shine here.
I enjoyed this one a lot! You can't expect every film to be another Lawrence Of Arabia, or one the best of the best. This one is quite good.
Not a bad little film but a far better one dealing with the last days of British rule in Africa is 'The Guns at Batasi'.
Very realistic in killing a man with one bullet unlike Hollywood where you had unload 10 bullets from a revolver.
A 1963 international British-German production
Richard Todd was in a Movie, I think it was called "The Long and the Short and the Tall" it was also known as "Jungle Fighters" it was a War movie but it was more about Human nature and how people react differently under stress if my memory serves me correctly, highly recommended
Like this Movie 👍🇳🇴
Marianne Cook in the credits?? It's German actress Marianne Koch.
At @7:38 the character Henry Sanders invites his subordinate Tom to dinner that night with the arriving Dr Jung.
@14:40 he then disinvites him, since the Dr Jung is an attractive young woman.
I'd call that a first-class boorish thing to do.
In this movie, made in 1962, a policeman travels upriver to visit an elderly doctor, with a Continental accent, referred to as "Dr Schneider".
Albert Schweitzer, a theological scholar and world-famous musician, in 1920 undertook to establish a hospital in equatorial Africa using his own money, raised by giving concerts.
His hospital was located rather far from the coast on the Ogooue River, in the country which at the time was a French colony but is now the independent country of Gabon.
In 1962 Dr Schweitzer, as is the character in this movie, was close to death: he died in 1965. In 1952 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in peace.
Ah ! The Kings African Rifles. My old regiment...!
Why would you camp on the shore with a river full of crocs 10’ away ? Not to mention hippos.
They had engine failure and could only paddle with boathooks so that was the nearest place they could land.
@@Londonfogey Does not excuse camping 10 feet from a known croc infested river, once they got on shore. Just dumb
The rich guy has a awful taste in boats.little clown boat.
What a kicker of a ending...
I thought the bad guy was gonna die from a snake bite.
Probably not a good idea to go sloshing about in crocodile-infested swamps when you're a baddie on the run from the police in a good old-fashioned adventure movie. That's all I'm saying...
a lots changed since 1963
Marisol !!!!
Jeremy Lloyd looks so handsome as a young man and today better as an older man
He died in 2014!
The great movie
Death Drums Along the River.......Great title . Too bad about the film...
Suspence,thriller and crime movie
Good entertainment.
Spoiler alert the croc got his man.
good lizard
Croc got ‘him then
And call it joking
After the first 15 minutes I couldn't watch anymore
decent movie
Richard Todd is long way from Sherwood forest!
Ah, but he liked making films with lots of water.
He's such a hottie! I love to look at him in his younger days, but even here, as an older guy, he still looks really good.
The good old days of the waning of colonialism.
The natives havent done much since ..except butcher eachother .
Oh my god there's always got to be one hasn't there! Do you think you're going to change history?
Indubidubly 🙂
British lives and culture matter to Britain and British people first. 👍🍺🇦🇺
Colonialism = civilisation. No colonialism = barbarism.
Don't think I can stand the British twittery from the junior officer. Also why do these colonial police carry sticks around, to beat the flies off?
Provoking all your coking anger
The _Zaire_ has come down in the world - she used to be a 2-deck stern-wheeler with a Hotchkiss cannon and a couple of Maxims.
