This looks like the most practical way for my mother to fish. She had a stroke and is paralyzed on one side, I just haven't seen handicapped fishing gear that works for a person who essentially is just moving their eyes, talking and happy to be there.
Toggles, triggers, and tension. Something I need to experiment a lot more with, there are so many applications and variations. Thanks for showing this!
Corporal Sir, you provide the best knot making and use videos out there. Simple, clear and demonstrating how multiple knots can be utilized in various situations.
The reason I love your channel is it really shows there is new ways to get things done and add to the knowledge one may have to be creative in their own survival and bushcraft skills. Thanks for what you do man.
Cullin Fowler, "Nothing new under the Sun" , probably applies here ? I would imagine it is something old just rediscovered from days of old and forgotten.
I've been waiting for this trap to be presented in a clear way. Very nice demonstration. It would be great to see an actual fish caught with this method. Excellent work Corporal.
Great trap that has a lot of applications. Have caught many rabbits this way. Thanks for showing how easily it is to make one. Enjoy your channel and how precisely you construct your devises. That’s good to go
I agree, to catch rabbits this setup at the start would be a great way to improvise to set up a spring up snare if there isn't any Saplings at hand to tie your snare to. Your comment made me think of this which I feel is awesome because then you can set up a snare for rabbits anywhere with just some wood at lengths of 9 feet & another at 2 feet as this tutorial has used.
Loved the video, I always wanted to try a spring trap and you made this look extremely easy to do... One more thing in my mind to do when my son and I go survival camping.
Well designed trap, if you don't know your knots it's quite daunting. I 've used this trap, it works great, but a line attached to a brick/rock, stick, thick grass/ foiliage, baited and thrown into a good spot will do the same job and is a more realistic way that will save your energy and time in a survival situation. Not all areas are blessed with wood. But I love your videos. 10/10 .
I will definitely be giving this one a go. But I’ve never been one to actually know the names of knots. I’ve always just tied different ways depending on it’s intended purpose. Great instruction and great info. Thank you
Started getting confused at the loop part of the lash, then realized I just did that exact thing to make a paracord handle for my ferro rod like 2 days ago lol
great video as usual. When you are pounding the stakes into the ground. If the ground is hard wet it down just a little bit. You will be able to drive the stake in farther. Pack it back around the poles with your foot. Easier to drive the first stake down.
Now thats what im talking about sound tool for the tool box !! thank you and Dave !!! actually have found all of the info from you guys to be good to go !!!! Semper Fi
I have seen and tried a few spring pole set up and I have to say this is the most difficult looking one I have seen, for a novice in an emergency situation I don't think this is the one for them to use, for the more experienced that gets out and practices often I think this one can be used and mastered and will probably work a little better.
I carry a couple of fishing yo yos in my kit they work great for fishing but also can be used for quicker set up of more common traps. But this traps is also great to know if my mechanical monstrosities break. So thanks for the information man. As always outstanding job.
...awesome video. I now learned a new triggering trick that I plan to test and use within the next few weeks. Thanks much CPL. Also loving how you went old school with the retro BDUs from the '80s. Great video. Thanks...
A few years back I made a similar video ;I couldn't catch any fish because like you ,I was explaining to the viewers, how to build this trap;well, what happened was, that since i said it our loud, some fish was listening to what i was saying and before i knew, the whole pond became aware of my evil intentions!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
very cool device, the whole cordage issue with attaching both poles together seemed to be an overkill. I am really impressed with your skill and I do agree the more traps you put out the better off you will be.
Love the idea. I have caught fish with my bare hands, but never would have thought of using a trapping type technique on fish. My only problem is that this is not something that I will get a chance to practice. And those knots are not something that I will remember, over time. So I have created a 'Watch Again' playlist, and stuck it on there. Just for info my 'watch later' and 'favourites' are full of pages of stuff and music respectively. So I would not want to loose this in the clutter. For anyone who has not created their own playlists, the easy way is to use the icon below this video, just to the right of the 'SHARE' icon. It looks like lines of text with a "+" symbol. Click on the 'Create New", type in "Watch Again" and it will automatically be created for you.
This looks great if you have to set the hook, but a trout will swallow the whole thing. No need for a "trap". I use between 6 and 9 feet of a good powerful line, the smallest hooks and bait them with worms. I attach them to a springy branches with a small aluminum carabiner. With 10+ hooks out and you'll get plenty of fish. It works fine, keep it simple and increase your chance with as many hooks as possible. I did it with some kids the other day. 5 hooks out, 30 min later we returned and got 2.
Thanks for all the effort and great tricks. Third stick, third knot. Did I bring string? How long am I gonna need to remember this before I'm in a situation that means I must fish this way while I build hut and fire? Remember what?
Great video man.For me though I would never use so many calories to set a hook on a fish I would sharpen my hooks sticky sharp and use a very low stretch braided fishing line and use 5% of the calories it took to set up the fishing spring pole for a similar catch rate. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate your video because I do and thanks a lot.
Good job on the springpole I like that I have seen it done before but it's been a long time ago we call him yo yo Dan Louisiana volume and texting makes no difference. Good job 😎
In this video you were using #18 bankline. What is the difference between that and the other bankline you use, in terms of strength, durability, and uses?
Good video. I enjoyed learning from you, but it would have been a lot more satisfying if you'd waited a bit and included coming back to a delicious fish. 🐟 There is a gentleman earlier in the comments that requested a video on how to clean and cook the fish, and I'd very much like to see that as well. Perhaps you could begin that video where this one ends and pull your fish from your trap.
Love and hate all the specific knots in the video. I have GOT to start learning more knots. I have learned a few but always end up forgetting them. I generally just start tying and what happens happens lol.
Excellent video!!! I live by a lake. I will be trying this later in the week. Could that same type of trigger system be used for small game? Like squirrels or something? Again, Outstanding video!!!
Hi : ) love your instructional videos! I am making notes and after you demonstrated how to tie a jam knot you moved on (at 8:22) to other aspects and never showed how you attached that knot to the top of the spring pole. I am wondering: Do you slip the very end loop over the top of the spring pole, or does the centre of the slip knot go over the end of the spring pole, and that is tightened in the recess? How does it attach?! You skipped that part! Thank you!! I hope you see and respond to this comment!

Great tip, thanks for showing it.
This looks like the most practical way for my mother to fish. She had a stroke and is paralyzed on one side, I just haven't seen handicapped fishing gear that works for a person who essentially is just moving their eyes, talking and happy to be there.
You are the fishing gear! Just changing up her routine as she can only watch does her wonders. Cudos to you
Toggles, triggers, and tension. Something I need to experiment a lot more with, there are so many applications and variations. Thanks for showing this!
Awesome video Marine. May i suggest a catch, cook and clean video, to show some people how to clean a fish and cook it the right way.
Hell yea I'm a vegetarian but I want to learn how to catch and clean animal meals!!!
@@ivonahumpalot538 can't decide if your being sarcastic, but I am a vegetarian and I would like to know also
I like the way you anchored the base of the spring pole, allows you to setup just about anywhere Thanks!
Corporal Sir, you provide the best knot making and use videos out there. Simple, clear and demonstrating how multiple knots can be utilized in various situations.
Give a man a fish, he eats today. Teach a man how to fish, he eats for life. That was outstanding.
"Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Don't teach a man to fish. Feed yourself. Fishing is not that hard." Ron Swanson
Greedy lol
Give a man a fish, he eats today. Give a man a poisonous fish, he eats for life.
🤣🤣🤣🤣just dont teach him how to grow corn🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A Chinese Proverb if I remember correctly, and you said it correctly, excellent.
some people around the world need to know basic survival skills and this is 1 of em. Thanks mate this is good knowledge. Keep em coming. :D
The reason I love your channel is it really shows there is new ways to get things done and add to the knowledge one may have to be creative in their own survival and bushcraft skills. Thanks for what you do man.

OUTSTANDING! Dave is a wealth of info, is he not? Thank You for sharing, Corporal. I can't wait to try this out.
Loved the video, I always wanted to try a spring trap and you made this look extremely easy to do... One more thing in my mind to do when my son and I go survival camping.
I love physics. It was my favorite class in high school. Awesome job on the fish trap.
I said it before but this is the best channel on RUclips. Delivery and pace of the video is the best and the closeups of the knots.... outstanding.
Careful, detailed explanation with great video. I ran traplines when I was a kid, but hadn't thought of that application to fishing.

Thank-you for you're service corporal, and have a safe and happy Memorial Day. God bless you! And God bless America!
Complication made Simple . Solid . Very Nicely Done Sir . Thank You very much . Your strait forward approach and delivery is Greatly Appreciated .
That's a great set up. I use a L7 trigger. You can also use this setup as a trigger for deadfalls (on its side) ,snares, and bird net traps.
Thanks, I've been teaching my daughters trapping, this made the list for sure. God bless; Semper Fi

Brilliant trap, this is so interesting..... thanks for sharing your insight on building this fish trap
Awesome trap...talk about passive fishing! Another great instructional video. Thank you, sir!
Thank you Corporal, I have never seen this setup before. I will be training myself with this great technique. Thumbs up Sir.
Please share this video with others and thanks for watching
Wow nice fish trap ! Looks great. Going to have to learn that one.
Outstanding fish trap so easy to make
That was a awesome way to setup a 🐟Fish'n🐠line. Thanks so much I wanna try this for sure.

maybe one with more carving is better for a novice. Thanks for watching
I like it, simple and effective. Thanks for sharing the skills and knowledge.

Hi, I just came across your page and was totally engrossed by this. So interesting and well put together, thanks.
Legend corporal.
Love it, took the kids out and tried this.
Awesome.
Awesome, I never saw this done before , thanks for the instructional video ,never too old to learn something useful !
Enjoyed the instructional video. Hoped you would catch a fish as part of the demonstration....maybe make a part 2?
...awesome video. I now learned a new triggering trick that I plan to test and use within the next few weeks. Thanks much CPL. Also loving how you went old school with the retro BDUs from the '80s. Great video. Thanks...
Thanks. I finally got around to making one of these. Excellent snare set up modified for fish.
Very well explained, and shown just how it works! Thank you some much
I'm sure somebody us saying that Corps. Paid off the fish. Great offering SK.
I like how both small sticks are tied to the line so you can operate it repeatedly and not lose them.
...legit never woulda have thought of that amazing video
Looks like a good trap I'll have to try it. I wish there were more trap making videos out there.
Looks like a great trap. Now I have to go try it.
Outstanding video, I recently tried to explain how to make one of these, your video fills the bill!! SEMPER Fi
I gotta say, I've never seen one of those before. I'll just have to make one this summer and see how well it works.
P Toth its a common trap used on land to snare small birds and animals.
Ive never seen it used for fishing. Deffinitely a great idea
Now that was a good video. You give awesome advise and instructions. This is ingenious.
I've never seen that trap before. Thanks, Corporal.
Nice job brother .welcome back to the world .a Nam brother in arms 👍🇺🇸🗽 stay💪
A few years back I made a similar video ;I couldn't catch any fish because like you ,I was explaining to the viewers, how to build this trap;well, what happened was, that since i said it our loud, some fish was listening to what i was saying and before i knew, the whole pond became aware of my evil intentions!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Very elegant trap. Sweet.
Excellent instruction as always Shawn! Well done sir.
You make it look easy. Love the videos
very cool device, the whole cordage issue with attaching both poles together seemed to be an overkill. I am really impressed with your skill and I do agree the more traps you put out the better off you will be.
Such a badass video dude! I love you and your channel man! Keep being the most amazing, awesome and bad ass man on the internet Corporal!
Semper Fi brother this was awesome to see thank you for explaining everything you were doing as well! OORAH

Mark,
And you would only be fishing one line. He can fish many lines and be cutting firewood at the same time. LOL
Great info. This needs to be practiced and might this spring apparatus be used to trap 4 legged critters ?
You can get anything to bite if you have the right bait. I catch bull 🐸 with a piece of red yarn or a small fly
Good job on the springpole I like that I have seen it done before but it's been a long time ago we call him yo yo Dan Louisiana volume and texting makes no difference. Good job 😎
Good job Corp !!!! We use that soon !!!!🇺🇸 🐟
That was incredible... definitely something I need to put into practice. Outstanding.
Corporal... Have you ever done any trot line or jug line videos? I'd be interested. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
In this video you were using #18 bankline. What is the difference between that and the other bankline you use, in terms of strength, durability, and uses?

Very helpful keep up the good work
Thank you
That is really cool! I haven’t seen something like that before I don’t think. I might have to try that sometime
and again: I learned something important, but simpley to setup
Win going to go try this in the morning at a pond close by. Wish me luck dude.
Great tutorial.thanks. Could 3 jam knots and notches secure both sticks together?
anything is possible. thanks for watching
Nicely done.
Thanks Sean and Dave
very clever suitably impressed😊
Excellent video!!! I live by a lake. I will be trying this later in the week. Could that same type of trigger system be used for small game? Like squirrels or something? Again, Outstanding video!!!
You could rig it up as a trip wire instead an it'd probably work great
Thank you so much very informative.
Ok that is simply awesome!

Awesome!! Good video as always, good job corporal!
I gotta watch that until.i.learn it. That's worth it!
