The thing with levels is that you don't really tend to fall into one or the other when learning, it's a bit more fluid. I've a mix of things from each level (my refusal to actually study art holds me back but as a hobbyist I don't really mind), so maybe my average is level 2, idk. Interesting video though!

I can proudly confirm and , according to the author's video, that I am at the 3d level, and so badly desiring to get to the 4th or 5th levels faster...
I wish they taught even this at school rather than just those subjects Barely we hv art classes and even in that also they never teach anything Of course with the consciousness of improving and not with marks
The problem with art classes in school is time. Usually, the main idea with art is that you learn how to do something using a reference (i.e. a very creatively restricted lesson) and then you make another one of those things but this time slightly different and with far more creative freedom. But art classes don't have this kind of time. They only have 1 hour everyday to do this. So depending on the teacher, they will either make you learn from a reference and then move on to something completely different, or they will do the far harder route where you are creatively free to do as you wish on a project but many might not really know what they're doing. It's a tough decision, and it's usually not an easy one unless you're in a higher up art class with only 3-10 people.
Just a psa for those who feel the same as the commenter…. I’ve experienced everything you guys have for years… I love drawing and have been doing it for years. until you truly study the fundamentals of art will you finally improve. Going to art school made me realise how bad I was and I couldn’t even keep up with their standards. Now I’m doing art on my RUclips channel…( not this one, cuz this is my undercover channel) and I’ve began to really improve from there
Okay, I'm not saying that Art Senpai is wrong but You actually don't need to find a style. All you have to do is to continue drawing. The style will find you eventually. You've developed a style from the very beginning and it only develops the more you draw. After some time, you'll realize that there are certain things you find in your drawings that other drawings don't have. If you focus too much on being unique, you will inevitably slow down your draftsmanship and your mindset. The answer to finding a style is actually very simple. Just draw. The style will come in later when you have a few years of experiences. P.S I felt like that western comic part was a personal attack towards me so here's a personal attack in return: oh? So you think big eyes, a flat triangle nose, and a small mouth is correct anatomy? Tsk tsk tsk. Bet you can't crosshatch with all that weaboo talk!
if you mastered anime style, then you wont have any problem practicing how to draw real human. Anime is just a starter pack for you to be an artist. After you become professional, it's up to you wether you want to stay in anime style or start drawing portrait
yeah. a lot of artists tips and tutorials end up being artists giving tips based on their own experiences which can vary heavily. I personally learned to draw from just going for it and trying to replicate the art of people i liked until eventually that developed into my own thing. There is no set track to becoming a talented artist it'll vary for 90% of people.
Yes, this is very true. One of my friends used to try to replicate my style, but it never worked out too well. Then, after being inspired by a dream he had, he decided to just draw what he envisioned instead of trying to replicate mine, and it was a VERY noticeable improvement. He's only shown me like four drawings, but from what I've seen, I consider him an equal, just in a different style.
Art Senpai: **talks about the different levels on drawing...people** Me: **trying to take that information and apply it to landscape knowing good and well that I've never drawn a somewhat realistic body** *EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
If you’re at level 3 and can’t seem to be able to get out a slump and start drawing again, draw fanart! Draw art for a topic or show or whatever that you really enjoy. One of the reasons why I didn’t stop drawing is because I kept on drawing anime boys that I found cute and drew my head canons 😅 that kept me pretty motivated
I feel like I'm at a weird mixture of levels 1 and 2 but I can also draw basic stuff without references (thanks to those life drawing sessions)...I just started taking art seriously at the beginning of the year. I felt somewhat discouraged that I could see myself in level 1 but I still have a long way to go. I can't wait to see where I'm at next year.
I obsessively drew animals from a young age, and I can draw them easily even without references. People tho . . . Let's just say I'm a level 2. The proportions are all wrong. ;-; don't get me started on clothes
Imagine being at level 6 after studying and practicing and then suddenly you got amnesia. But after that, you remember everything except arts. *Pain* 😭😭😭🤣
I'm somewhere in between 2 and 3 I've almost perfected my shading capabilities, but I'm still working on anatomy and I'm constantly improving my style almost every time I draw, I come up with another way to enhance my style, whether it be the shape of the torso or the curl of a line
Basically, you're trying to say that drawing takes years of practice, dedication and patience to get you're drawing skills perfect, am I right art senpai ??
between 1 and 2 myself.. though i've got some of the level 2 parts right like the face and the clothes there are other aspects that still need work.. mainly legs and arms wich unless they are an alien that don't conform to human standards i'll most likely mess up.. so i've cheeked em before by simply drawing a long dress.. so i only needed to work on the arms and hands.. wich actually turned out fine after tweaking them a little bit. i've been great at copying for a while already though.. i once drew a mickey mouse just for fun and it actually was very recognizable as mickey mouse.
I'm glad Jojo has had a mention! Honestly, Araki has been a huge inspiration. And I mean *HUGE.* He inspired me to use more references, how to have good character design, and taught me that killing off people spices up the story and brings emotion. Man's a legend.
I think I’m on lvl 4, I do not have any problems with the autonomy and I’ve found my own unique art style and I have gotten over my fear/laziness of drawing, when I usually draw, I find myself having no problems at the moment. I’m happy where I am.
Lol I just give up on drawing traditionally Digital is so much more convenient I bet if I tried traditional every 5 seconds I'd reach my left hand on a non existent keyboard internally shouting _"WHERE TF IS UNDO?"_
Currently im only level 2 and my goal is to get to level 4 im gonna edit this when i reach it wish me luck 5 months later: honestly i think im on level 3 im getting closer
I’m at level 0 and I just drew a decent pair of eyes and when I tell u the amount of euphoria I just experienced from seeing that I did that was unimaginable.
That's pretty good! I've been drawing since i was a kid, Recently finally brought my digital to 2-3 Pencil has been 3 for a while I'm in mid 20s Most of my sensei that brought me up along with them during school have quit to do more job focus stuff. You are doing just fine! It takes practice and commitment.
It's nice to finally Understand which Level I fall under. Now I know where to improve in. Thanks for the video. Oh and during the time I wrote this comment in currently Lvl 3 and slowly moving to 4.
I think the most important thing about drawing is to never give up. It doesn't matter how much or how good you draw, it's about appreciating your style and skills. It's just a damn good feeling, looking back in your sketchbooks and noticing the difference and the development in your skills.
I'm something like a level 1-2, the anatomy hates me, just when I'm working on a meme animatic the anatomy just leaves me, when I'm in math class, i automatically start doing everything good, but when i get to my house, everything falls apart
im at the end of level 2 after drawing for 3 or so years, one thing ive learned is that art requires no distractions, my art when talking to someone vs when im not talking to someone is vastly different, and i highly recommend setting aside time after you have done everything you need to do for the day to just chill and draw, no music, no talking, youll improve fast that way
im also level 2 but i still cant draw body and hands propely so i just choose reference pictures with no hands🤣 i just my lock my self in a room switch wifi off download the reference pictures and after 30 min i will get bored and straight out turns on wifi and watch youtube or something
Me: Level 5 drawing Level 0 coloring Lol Edit: yay thx for da lieks! Edit2: No one: Literally no one: ppl in da comments: SamE (You can still comment that, I’m just joking around)
Admittedly, I'm still at Lvl 3 since I just ripped my art earlier cuz I messed up the face badly-in the process of inking, at that. However, before ripping it apart, I took a picture of it and plan to fix and finish it in digital. Then again, that doesn't mean I won't draw traditionally anymore. This video made me realize that I'm already halfway there and just need to keep sharpening my pencil.
I feel like I’m a 2.5 now, I just started taking art seriously about 2 years ago, and I just wanna say never give up no matter how bad you think you are. “Fake it till you make it” helped me a lot. Also don’t look at pros and say “omg I’m so bad at art I might as well give up” look at your old art , and see how far you’ve come! Art is supposed to be fun, enjoy it!
A good piece of advice is to set up a personal goal to follow. For example, choosing an artist you really like and using it as your reference/goal, I can't understate how much doing that has helped me, it's the 80/20 thing. "If you know what to do, you can replicate 80% of the results with just 20% of the effort" and my lord that is true...
17 years to reach level 5. I've been drawing for my whole life and I enjoy expanding my style so much. Good luck to those who started, have several artblocks and everyone else too! What's funnier is that it's the last 3 years that changed my art a lot. There re various phases of style evolution. Sometimes it goes slowly, sometimes it goes insanely fast where after a month you could call your art "old/outdated". So no matter at what speed you improve, keep the patience and practice and don't give up!
Currently I am level 2 going on level 3. I usually get inspiration from different art styles and characters but I can draw free style too. As far as personal art style, it is a current mix of a bunch of different art styles.
Maybe make a mix of styles by using different artists styles for different parts, like u can can use one artists hair technique and the another ones clothing for another and many people also have other peoples styles so its ok-
Try out different styles and try to master 1, then move on to other styles and eventually you should have your own ring to your drawings. Look up references and draw those as well, also try something new! If you’re use to drawing straight down hair then try drawing 2 buns, ponytails, halfs, and just a lot of other things. I’m no professional lol but but these are some things I have done to help me advance and to help me keep advancing. Don’t ever get discouraged, good-luck!
@@shamarah4273 yeah, that's what helped me. I never traced artists' work. But you can, just don't use it for profit or say you've done it by yourself. It's rude to the artist.
I’m terrible at literally everything except drawing line art. I can often see a picture in my head of what I want, but all the limbs are weirdly shaped, even though I know how they look.
btw in 1:56 that weird looking frame is called smear and its intentional to emphasize movement in animation ps* its only for those who are confuse on why there are bad looking drawings in animes, thats why you never press pause

2) Hobby - Artists
3) Intermediate Artists
4) Upper - Skill (or High - Skill) Artists
5) Master - Artists
6) Guru (Prodigy or "Prophet") Artists or Grandmaster Artists, you would say.
I can proudly confirm and , according to the author's video, that I am at the 3d level, and so badly desiring to get to the 4th or 5th levels faster...
I wish they taught even this at school rather than just those subjects
Barely we hv art classes and even in that also they never teach anything
Of course with the consciousness of improving and not with marks
HI i just made a portrait of my Baby Brother and i was wondering which level it fell on , if yall have time pls check it out and leave ur opinion
we had an art project where everyone will draw a portrait, while they didn't even teach us anything about drawing.

Now I’m doing art on my RUclips channel…( not this one, cuz this is my undercover channel) and I’ve began to really improve from there
Okay, I'm not saying that Art Senpai is wrong but
You actually don't need to find a style.
I agree. A style is a culmination of your experience and taste. You won't really have a unique or effective style without proper study of art.
if you mastered anime style, then you wont have any problem practicing how to draw real human. Anime is just a starter pack for you to be an artist. After you become professional, it's up to you wether you want to stay in anime style or start drawing portrait
You are correct, but did you really have to offend anime senpai? :(
yeah. a lot of artists tips and tutorials end up being artists giving tips based on their own experiences which can vary heavily.

If you’re at level 3 and can’t seem to be able to get out a slump and start drawing again, draw fanart! Draw art for a topic or show or whatever that you really enjoy. Just lowkey being confident and keep assuming you’re in the level 4 and trying to get to level 5. (And just keep the thought for yourself lol)
im just a mess of levels, my anatomy is like lvl 4 but my line art is like level -1 and my colouring is whatever level it feels like being
Currently I am level 2 going on level 3. I usually get inspiration from different art styles and characters but I can draw free style too. As far as personal art style, it is a current mix of a bunch of different art styles.
I JUST CANT FIND A STYLE THAT LOOKS DIFFERENT FROM EVEYONE ELSES
edit: thanks everyone in the replies :)

Woah, just found out that I'm at level 3.
Thanks so much for this video. Helped alot
Me like 6 time in my life cause I changed my artstyle drastically: *let's go back to level 1*
I’m terrible at literally everything except drawing line art. I can often see a picture in my head of what I want, but all the limbs are weirdly shaped, even though I know how they look.
You should try tracing first, and then move on to anatomy videos they really helped me, I hope they’ll help you too
HI i just made a portrait of my Baby Brother and i was wondering which level it fell on , if yall have time pls check it out and leave ur opinion
btw in 1:56 that weird looking frame is called smear and its intentional to emphasize movement in animation
ps* its only for those who are confuse on why there are bad looking drawings in animes, thats why you never press pause
