  • Why suppressed? Consider the fact that if you’re listening to this podcast, that’s courtesy of your functioning ears, which we should all be doing everything in our power to maintain. For some the answer to the question of “Why suppressed?” is obvious, but due to some unfortunate misinformation in popular and social media, suppressor ownership and use can be scary, seemingly unnecessary or just plain confusing to a great deal of hunters, shooters and budding enthusiasts. In this episode, Jimmy, Mark, Reuben Aleckson and Adam Maxwell discuss why shooting suppressed should be looked at as a great benefit to shooters, hunters, our neighbors and even the habitat which we hunt in. We discuss generally how most states go about their suppressor transfers, how a suppressor works and all the many benefits of owning and using a suppressor in a wide variety of shooting scenarios. Then when you’re done… Get one… Or two… Or a bunch for all your firearms!

    In the UK, suppressors (also known as Moderators) are required to be on your firearms licence for firearms, but can be easily requested when requesting a slot for a rifle for your licence. The longest wait is awaiting approval for the slots or application for the firearms licence.
    The suppressor must me transferred in person and can’t be bought online for delivery. But if it’s in stock and you have the cash, you can walk out without paying extra tax and a need to wait months.
    New licence request is approx £90, any variation to the licence is roughly £20.

      @@VortexNation Hi, no not really, our gun laws are better than most countries considering the law makers wouldn`t know one end of a gun from the other. I`m not sure what you have heard but the new government has tried making improvements to the gun laws in a knee jerk reaction to the mosque shootings which hasn`t achieved anything positive. The national gun owners groups have protested the changes so not much has changed. The main changes are banning of semi autos & magazine capacities of maximum 10 rounds. Pistols are very hard to buy but not impossible (lots of regulations). There is no gun register so you can own as many guns as you want and no laws limiting the amount of ammo you can purchase... -)

      Im from sweden and here supressors are legal for 222/223 rifles and over (its more complicated then that, but for simplicity). But we separate weapon license for hunting vs weapon license for competition. You can own a AR15 for competition in sweden, with a supressor, but you are not allowed to hunt with it.
      Anyway. I use supressor when i hunt. generaly i dont use protection when doing so - at most i shoot 1-2 shots and when in the open its not that bad.
      It lowers recoil alot and it disturbs both animals and people less.
      I find the tradeoff worth it. Also i shoot better with supressor, as the recoil and rifle balance is better. I have a 20" Howa mini in 6.5 grendel and 308 Winchester 70 22"

    Guys two mistakes 3db not 10 dB doubles the sound energy. 10db is an increase of 10x sound energy. Secondly it is pronounced Tin-Nit-Tus these are all short i sounds. Great job overall on the topic.

    • @jmkhenka
      @jmkhenka 3 года назад +1

      No.. 3 dB is a doubling, 10 dB is 10 times more (its rounded, but in all practicality its true). Sound volume decrease exponentialy with distance, like rings on water. So thats why dB logaritmic is logical for sound levels.

    Yeah, I like suppressors and hope to get one soon, but electronic ears are better for hunting and for hearing protection. They actually amplify normal sounds and provide greater noise reduction. I want a suppressor for my neighbors as I have my own range. I use subsonic 22 quiets when introducing new shooters. And, if you really don’t want to not disturb other animals in the woods, use a bow. It’s even better for your ears.

    Great discussion on suppressors. The world has been mad on regulating these things for ever . Its absolutely mental you need any excuse or reason to own one of these . Owning one should be no different to owning a fishing rod . You can own a fishing rod with no licence or permit but you need a licence or permit to use it. It should be exactly the same system to own and use a suppressor they are not a gun and are harmless

    you basically said it - its an accessory, it makes it more quiet so what, a scope helps you see better and farther, a better trigger helps you shoot better, a butt pad makes it shoot softer, a bipod gives you more support, etc... supressor and short barrels just makes no sense, a shorter barrel gives you worse ballistics so why is that regulated vs a longer barrel? just makes no sense

      By that logic, then you'll likely never have a suppressor. What's worse? Not having a suppressor or being on yet another list you're probably already on simply by owning the firearms you do, watching podcasts related to suppressors, google searching whatever other firearms related topics you might be searching, etc. Chances are, if there's a list, we're all probably already on it. Might as well be on it with a suppressor on your gun. At least, that's one way of looking at it.
