Yao steps up for the challenge? These guys make it like Yao is a rookie big man challenging the mighty Dwight Howard. Get it real. Dwight Howard is NEVER a challenge for Yao Ming. On the other hand, DH NEVER steps up when he plays against Yao.

Yao always dominates the best centers in the NBA because they try to play him 1-on-1, which I don't think any center can do at this point. Even back when Shaq was with the Lakers, and Yao was new to the league, Yao had some of his best games early on in his career where he dominated Shaq, who was at the time the best center in the NBA by far.

I can't agree more to what you said. Yao plays well against good centers like Dwight Howard, Kaman, etc. However, he plays poorly when he is crowded by a bunch of shorter players as he is not a good passer

Yao Ming actually has Bball skills and doesn't just reply on physical gifts (I guess mainly because he isn't the athlete that Howard or Bynum are)
implicitly, he's saying for big guys like Yao and Shaq with unstoppable offensive games, it doesn't matter how strong down low Howard is. He wasn't pointing out just to Yao's body, you have to look at the context in which he included Shaq, cause there are other big guys in the league he didn't name.
rockets have the best chance in the west of beating lakers with a healthy yao ming. they match up well against them and went to game 7 in 2009 playoffs without yao. they could have advanced if he was heatlhy. they got shane battier, who defends kobe better than nearly anyone else, yao ming to take away lakers size, and young guards.
Basketball isn't all just about strength and athleticism.

thats exactly right, Howard picks on scrubs, and Yao has great games against the big beefy guys.
Yao would be even more effective playing in earlier years against traditional centers.

Dwight Howard is just a physical player, he doesn't have any moves, other than just be as strong as possible to get a shot off, and pray it goes in. Yao Ming has more skill, he can score one on one with a soft touch with the fadeaway, or turnaround jumper. The NBA is now like the CBA. The big men are soft, and don't have much talent. Alonzo Mourning, Shaq, Ewing, Robinson, Karl Malone, Moses Malone, Barkley they are all gone, or going to be gone from old age. Gasol is a finesse player, no banger

how can dwight howard be the best center when he can only bash up on scrubs, even the lakers troubled him in the playoffs due to their length. the stats for yao v dwight should be evidence enough

@deserthobo Dwight Howard has a 39 inch jumper, how in the world does he have unbelievable athleticism? He ain't known for being super fast. Hakeem was quicker than him. Chris Webber was quicker than him.
