Hey there Driver. Thanks for taking the time to check out today's video. What do you think about today's video? Do you recognize the fact that if truckers 'could' unite, they've be a powerful group? Wonder sometimes if the trucking companies love the diversity that keeps us from joining as one. Thoughts?

Dave ,I started driving trucks in the late 60s.Every one was saying back then the same thing.
The issue is some guy always has a truck payment on the 30th of the month and can,t sit . There is always some one who is willing to cut the rates or haul cheap thinking he will get his foot in the door. Only to realize later that was all stupid because someone else would haul that same load at a loss. It has been like that since deregulation happened .

I've found that there is always a supply of drivers that will work for basically chicken feed and be happy, never figured out why, but they do. When these drivers leave the business maybe things will get better.

With the Invasion of foreigners over the last 30 years or so I honestly don't believe that we as drivers have nearly the power that we once did. I'll be the first to admit that I can't speak French but, I also never ran Canada. I definitely
would've learned enough of the language to get by if I'd needed too though!
Also, I'd much rather drive ANY of my old pickups than one of those "CEO mobiles". At least I know for sure that my old truck will make it home lol!

I think the thing is that there are way more truck drivers these days than there were in the 60s and the 70s. Mega carriers like Swift have over 20,000 drivers. That's like a whole city of drivers. If the company was to increase the wages of all these drivers to meet the standards of life that drivers had in the 60s and 70s it would bankrupt the company. And the whole point of a company is to make as much money for the shareholders as possible. A business that doesn't strive for that is a dead buisness. So it's not that trucking companies are evil nowadays. It's just that life sucks. Man does it suck!

    Spot on you are right!!!!!🇺🇸
But unfortunately most drivers take what’s given them. One time I drove for a company that paid me 75cents a mile. The freight paid 5.15 $ a mile it was their truck but wow I was making them rich at 2500 plus a week. No o/o I’m getting over 5.00$ a mile even in this horrible market

The reason truckers made good money in the 70’s and 80’s is they worked all the time. The government has us so restricted now with hours of service. The companies need more team drivers because they pay so much for a truck and then it sits more than it runs.

It would be nice if we could unite. The problem I see the most nowadays is that the few of us who are true professional drivers are out numbered by foreign people who barely speak English and will do whatever to earn the bucks. Not all of them are bad but I am constantly being over run and wedged out of my lane by them barreling down the road not caring what damage they do. Those wheel holders would NEVER stand with the true profeSsionals.

When they deregulated trucking they promised lower transportation costs for customers but what ended up happening was big corporations took those savings as bigger profits and we took on more work to make up for the decreased rates…one entity walked away in far better shape and that was big corporations.
Chamber of commerce and ATA is our enemy and as long as we have them around we will have lots of cheap freight and no $$$ in the pocket and being sodomised big corporations

Truckers used to unite, but thanks to Jimmy Carter and deregulation, the mega carriers have diluted the quality of drivers and the occupation itself to the point where it's every driver for himself. FTATA.

100% correct but real wording it’s all about debt .. because in federal reserve world debt is money and the more regulation .. the more debt .. debt = slavery and money only comes into existence through debt .. The American forefathers warned about the European banking industry and as a country we did a good job fighting it … then Americans lost (1913) and been losing more each day since …

Never going to happen. It’s one thing to work at a loss as long as you can cover your variable costs and part of your fixed costs, in order to get a good paying load. That’s business. But there’s always someone out there that will work for less than that on a consistent basis.

  • @aviatortrucker6285
    @aviatortrucker6285 16 дней назад +1

It was always about money. The truck driver was always making money. That’s why he was in business. Finally, the big conglomerates decided to cash in, the federal government decided to try to eliminate the middleman and it’s about money for both of them. But drivers continue to push the trucks along the road for peanuts and as long as you work for the circus, you’ll always be paid in peanuts. There were always be drivers that don’t care about the money and just love the road. Those are the ones that bitch the most. As far as trying to unite truckers, you couldn’t get two truckers to appear together at the same flip-flop kiosk.

After my ex-wife turned my kids against me "parental alienation" i decided i needed a way to pay her as little as all possible. That is when i went from a local driver getting payed hourly with over time pay to Over The Road. That was 8yrs ago and it has worked out great!! Haha, ........ My last payment to her is coming up but i only owe her 300 buck per month. That is minum wage 40hrs a week, the lowest ORS can make a child support obligation, and the back support is sum 5 thousand dollars.............. lol ............. As a local driver we always new that the OTR guys had special needs but I would have never guessed I would have ever donated so much time, got payed so little, and be disrespected so much... Now that i have no need to make pennies I am thinking about selling the my rig i have been driving for 8yrs and canceling my DOT number............... Good luck Guys you can fight over the chicken feed after i am gone

They tried. Way back in the 1960 I think it was, the Teamsters had a plan. They wanted
to get every truck driver in the US onto their membership rolls. Once industry got wind
of this plan they hit the roof. They foresaw a time when every driver in the US would
stand down and force all the employers in America to pay drivers a kings ransom as
pay. PLUS, if all drivers were unified, they could bring US business to a screeching halt,
held hostage by the union. Not that the Teamsters would ever do such a thing. Anyway, once the cat was out of the bag, actions were taken and stop was put to it.

Almost impossible, most truckers hold political beliefs totally antithetical to what they need.
Labor needs to unite,if you have labor power you have a say at the table and if you don’t you DONT have anything.
Only a nation wide union will fix Trucking, that’s it.
Been hauling reefer for 16y and I’ve seen how big corporations screw us the little guy.
