Prevent Vehicle Theft: Follow the 9 PM Routine

The Highland Park Police Department encourages residents to follow the #9PMRoutine to secure your vehicle and prevent burglaries and thefts. Most stolen vehicles in the North Shore area are the result of vehicles left unlocked, and keys left in or near the vehicle.
- Keep in mind the following safety tips:
- Secure your keys and keep valuables out of sight.
- Lock all doors, including car doors, even if your car is parked in your garage.
- Ensure your home has proper lighting and that shrubbery is trimmed.
- Leave your outside lights on overnight, especially if parking your vehicle outside.
- If you have an alarm system, remember to set it. Consider a system with cameras.
- Report any suspicious activity immediately to the police.
