I was there, at the start of hangar straight. 16, my dad took me and on the way said I wouldn't believe the speed. He was right but he forgot to mention the sound....! Unforgettable - when they came past it was a huge wall of noise that was almost scary, but was so spectacular too. F1's never been the same since they dropped the sound.

That Ferrari 643 was one beautiful car...the Lotus 107 that came out the following year was also a beauty, as was the 1990 Benetton. Lovely looking machines...and V8, V10 and V12 engines!
It was a hot day, I was on the infield just after the legendary lift, then they came past me, I can still here the engine sound, got a Vid of it somewhere, great memories 🙂
This was a great race, thank you for the memories friend 👍 Top Man. The 92 season was real class Mind the Mansell rope a dope on Piatresse 😂 And how he drove the Williams absolutely hammering his teammate.
The only commentators who could come close to matching them were Paul Page, Sam Posey and Bobby Unser in IndyCar in the early-mid 1990s. Derek Daly was also a great colour announcer.

A great race when F1 was still exciting and not the sanitised WWF 'epic' they've tried to make it... Fun fact - this race is mostly remembered for the lift that Mansell gave Senna but did you know that Senna studied and memorised the settings that Mansell had on his steering wheel? Senna gave full debrief to his race engineer when he returned to the pits and they used this data to try and better understand the genius that was that year's Williams.
@@ukqwerty999 Santa Clause leaving gifts under the tree for children is a bit of a tall tale as well but it makes people happy believing it's real... except, of course, you.

How was Iron-man Nigel able to qualify as much as a Second f on occasions & usually at least 0.4- .06 faster than teammate Patresse in the same car guys ? Anyone have an answer to this question please ? The Williams was apparently a bit of a beast & difficult to drive sometimes BUT in 92 Nigel Mansell who managed to throw the car around going to the edge of the limit & occasionally over it seemed to cope alot easier than Patresse.
Mansell was the faster driver, no question. But I think it wasn't possible to drive such constant lap times with these cars, as with the modern F1 cars. So it happened that a driver was able to finish a kind of a perfect lap, but only once and randomly. And don't forget, we had separate qualify setups and race setups in these years.
@zsoltvincze3485 : Yeah I understand regarding drivers diff setups & absolutely couldn't do constant lap times but he could for a number of laps because he was able to open himself a buffer then slow have a breather & save the tyres BUT Patresse could go 2-3 laps before his times would stall but Nigel could pull out 3/4 a Second to a Second for about 10-12 laps. I know how Nigel trained & he went beyond what was needed but he was so driven to be WC which he should've had a least 2 maybe 3 with better luck of course. Thanks for you're help friend.👍

This stuff is not appropriate for today’s audience and generation. They get too concerned and obsessed about safety, cigarette advertising, carbon footprints, grid girls and fair sportsmanship. Give them something more attune to their sensibilities with the big electric race cars of today
What an idiotic comment. The sport is exciting without Senna having to die or half of this grid having had life threatening accidents because of the lack of a survival cell and crumple zones. We don't need deathsticks being advertised to kids or maffia whitewashing their blood money. It's already bad enough the oil money is still there. We're decades away from a planet that can't sustain our population. Pretty great when a motorsport is not afraid to acknowledge this and evolve. Sorry you don't like pretty girls but F1 is becoming more homosexual positive so I'm sure in the future you'll be pleased to get some pretty boys on the grid too. Oh no a sport where people have to play the game fair. What a horrible prospect.

Would get goose bumps on the way to the track when you first heard the cars running, not been since they turned them down.
Ditto was same at the race start, then walked down to Stowe then just after Club where the icon lift happened.
I'll never get tired of Red 5 coming down the now old start/finish straight then turning to the left... Mansell was amazing at home!

I saw this on the telly at the time when F1 was accessible and not the cynical business it is now.
Plus the politically correct woke corporate shitshow it is now.
I wouldn't say it's only F1 that's cynical, evil, and money hungry in media tho...
More of sign of the times IMO

Then Honda upped the engine stakes for Spa.
