Hoard it’s a Barbie movie. I haven’t seen it since I was a little kid. It’s full of cliches and very obvious! but it’s got all my love (mostly for the nostalgias sake).
Well, it was made in 2004, the movies released that year were basically Howl's Moving Castle and The Incredibles, one of which is god tier 2d and the other was almost postponed because of Violet's long-ass hair. Princess & The Pauper had about the same budget as canada's military (A little wagon and some fresh pancakes), so it's not surprising that the animation is stiff looking today.
Hand drawn animation is timeless, CG animation is bound to not age well, even some scenes from the first Toy Story look really weird now, despite being a great movie in general.
When I was younger, my sister and I would watch those movies whenever we had the chance. She was four, and my brother and I were the ones with a tv in our room.

At first I had no idea what it was and just thought it would be some gay animation lol. Then I heard her voice and im like "WAIT. Ive heard that somewhere?? Wtf???" And then I looked in the comments. Barbie. I grew up with this and I didn't even realize
I had clicked this not knowing what it was, but when the moment the title came up when the video began playing, it clicked. I adored this song when I was younger, though it was always my little sister watching the Barbie movies. I sometimes would watch with her when she didn't notice, and this was one of the songs I loved. "Barbie is for girls," but I don't care. This scene was so cute.
Okay, so the princess says: "I wouldn't want to disappoint my mother," and the pauper (an orphan) says: "I completely understand," and she keeps down-playing the awfulness of her situation. E.g. A fabric pattern in that era doesn't just "turn into a gown". Especially stitching by hand... And the princess is just like: I don't want to marry this hot guy I don't really know. I see the ship. I see it now.
The Cat Came Back The princess's situation is not wanting to marry anyone but her tutor but knowing she has to. And don't forget she knows nothing about the king. He could be a child an old man or a downright horrible person. Just because Dominic wasn't any of those things doesn't change these initial feelings.
I always thought it was nice that Erica sorta like paused when Anneliese presented her problems like instead of saying "my life is so much worse hold on" she just gave it a second and then started to show the princess how they were similar.
The Cat Came Back No. They have the same struggles, but in different ways. For example, the reason why both ladies stay in their roles is to not disappoint their parents. In Erica’s place, her parents were poor had taken loans from Madame Carpe, that she would live her entire life trying to pay it off to honour her parents. Despite the differences in their situations, Annalise also has a debt she must pay to her kingdom, for the rest of her life. Another example of this is how in ‘Free’ both of their problems stem from their constricted lives and the idea that they would be permanently confirmed to those roles. Also, if your going to spend your entire life being above the entire rest of the country but below your husband, you might as well love the only person who will ever be considered your equal/above you, as they may be the only person you will ever consider a ‘friend.’ Also, they both sing ‘Imagine life without the strife of an unfamiliar groom’ which, in the context of the era, would be the most both ladies could ever truly hope for. In both cases, all the girls want is some freedom and some time. This means that they truly aren’t that different, thus the point of the song and the entire show itself.
I've had this song stuck in my head for years since I was young and it was so annoying for me. But even after years of the torture of hearing this song in my head, I ship it.

One of them had a battery that was starting to go bad about a year ago, and once, when I was home alone, doing homework, the Barbie just randomly started singing and it was really creepy and distorted... Completely by coincidence, the lights in the room that I was in went out a few seconds after it started. I was scared AF. I walked around the house with a baseball bat trying to find where the creepy singing was coming from until I realized that it was just the Barbie. Scariest Barbie experience in my life. It honestly felt like a horror movie. XD
Plot twist: They end up being life long friends, who support and understand each other and help each other in times of need because you can love and understand each other without being romantically involved.

Honestly, I just watched the movie again after years (Last time I watched it I was a child). I forgot some stuff of the movie so tbh I actually thought they would get together at the end. That would have been an actual good ending. But then I looked at the year the movie came out (because I forgot) and I was like dang it.
The movie was amazing. It's pretty old but it's still one of the best Barbie movies. Truthfully, Barbie movies nowadays suck. This was back when they made good ones.

I think the greatness of this song is that neither girl underrated the experience of the other. I think that's very sweet. That everyone has struggles to share with one another.
I'll admit, I've never watched a Barbie movie for, well, obvious, possibly shallow reasons, but after hearing this song, I feel like I gotta seek this film out. This sounds like it should be in a Broadway show.

Honestly, I just watched the movie again after years (Last time I watched it I was a child). I forgot some stuff of the movie so tbh I actually thought they would get together at the end. That would have been an actual good ending. But then I looked at the year the movie came out (because I forgot) and I was like dang it.
