There seems to be a lot of concern this year about RV parks and campgrounds being booked solid and having no place to go. Yet, the way we travel by RV (and make reservations) hasn’t changed. In this article, we want to dispel some of the hype around campground reservations and provide you with some actionable advice to get out there and make your adventure happen.
But first, it’s important to acknowledge that the conclusions we make are almost always aligned with our beliefs.
What does that have to do with campground reservations? Let’s say someone buys into the idea that “everything is booked,” and their summer plans are doomed. He or she makes one phone call to a state park to learn that they are booked solid. Do they make a second phone call? Doubtful. The first phone call proved their point. It’s over. Pack it up and sell the RV!
Meanwhile, another RVer who does not have the idea that “everything is booked” calls a second campground, maybe a third, or even changes their exact destination or travel dates. They trade the adjustments for the memory of a lifetime.
Certainly, there are more RVers today due to borders being closed and limited international travel. We have the distinct advantage of having RV’d semi full-time for the past 5 years and being able to compare 2021 to 2020 and 2016.
Candidly, we can’t tell the difference.
There has never been a time during our 5 years of travel that a reservation was not required at a highly popular place during a popular time of year. The only difference between 2016 and 2021 is what or who we blame.
Click the button to continue reading and learn the approach we take when making reservations and what you can do this year to help you get out there even more! keepyourdaydream.com/rsvp

Excellent explanation! So often we are willing to buy into the doom and gloom that gets the ratings for the media and forget to consult those who are actually out there making it work. And even if there is some truth in the increased bookings, flexibility in life will open you up to adventures you never saw coming.

I agree with you Mark. When I was a travel nurse I never made reservations either as I traveled to an assignment or after I got there. I always had an adventure. I still go by that belief and I still have adventures.

If we are visiting out of state family and friends, we make reservations, otherwise we tend to travel on the fly. We don’t have to be in the best campground. We are just parking and visiting sites. We might have to stay overnight at Walmart if we can’t get into a campground for a night. You just have to be flexible.

I've camped in 5 state parks this year. I'm a snow bird. When I did this two years ago there were very few open sites. This year I'm seeing many open sites. None are long term and usually only a day. I think the lack of Canadians is a big reason for this.

Your channel inspires me to travel with my babies and husband- the plan is for me to go to nursing school (which I am taking my pre-reqs now) and become a travel nurse so I can travel the country and see it with my family. I can't thank you enough for the inspiration and the wonderful content.

Your idea is a great one. A friend did that. Had a class A with a jeep toad and moved from one place to another for jobs and explored on days off. She loves it and has seen so much of the country. Every other year, before covid, she would work 6 months and then park her rv and travel internationally the other 6 months since she was able to save money living in the rv.

Mark, I'm sure you know this but the awning pull rod is also used to 'spin' your top clamps. Insert the pull rod into one of the clamp holes whilst applying a bit of pressure on the awning arm then rotate. No jumping or step stool required.

Mark, You should have an aluminum rod with a loop handle on one end and a "hook" on the other end. I could stand flat-footed and use the hook to turn the awning securement knobs then grab the awning lanyard with the hook and pull it out. I hope my explaination makes sense.

And before I was in South Florida, I had moved down there in 1984 from Anchorage, AK., I drove from Anchorage, AK., to here where I'm at now, Enumclaw, WA., just out side of Seattle/Tacoma, WA. Then onto South Florida. As i said above, I left in 2000, so now has been 21 years since I was down there. My how time passes so very fast!!! Best Wishes!!

Pro tip: The awning locking wheels have holes in them so that you can lock, unlock, and move them with the long awning tool. The L-shaped end is made to fit into the holes. It requires that the shaft fits smoothly into the slot; sometimes it may require that you push/pull the arms to get a smooth fit.

Now we will upgrade and are shopping for a Class A Tiffen! So, I'm hoping that by Mid April we start our full time RV'ing. You guys have been a great inspiration. Hopefully, we will see you on the road. Oh, and it's even more sweet because I'm a survivor of a month long Covid 19 infection. Didn't think I'd live and didn't think I would be able to Keep this Daydream, but I made it through and I have immunity! We will start a channel also. As a FL Resident, and RV'r since 2013, it most certainly is different, the seasons for limited reservation options are longer. I used to be able to, at whim take a trip to Apalachicola and get a walk up reservation during certain times of the year, that's no longer true. The state parks here are packed because state parks in other places are closed by mandate. Instead, for vacation I went to New Mexico this winter, where all the state parks were closed and we ended up boon docking the entire trip in National Forests. It was wonderful and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

So we are in a Classic 33 ft and pull it with a RAM 2500 (gas fuel). This is our first trip. So much to learn but one noteworthy is that there are many truck stops that cater to big trucks (diesel fuel) with big spaces for fueling and vehicles/cars/trucks (gas fuel) that don’t need wide area for fueling. In other words, at most gas stations, the diesel side is huge while the gas side is much smaller. So it’s a challenge to find gas stations that are roomy enough for our truck while pulling the Airstream. While this first trip is being cut short due to unforeseen circumstances, it has been an adventure and look forward to going back again.😊

My wife rented an awesome 4 bedroom 4 bathroom house with a pool for us and our camping circle to chill for a few days. All the way from Baltimore Md. love you guys and look forward to your next adventure.

Caleb, Caleb, Caleb...he just cracks me up between about 2:00 and 2:45. Did Marc even know what he was doing back there? I do love the Keys. It's one of the things I miss most about when I lived in South Florida.

I have been towing a Smart car behind my class A. It works great for getting around in small towns and tight spaces

Small world... I live in Jacksonville and take the A1A drive all the time to North Beach, Guana and Saint Augustine. I just went to the light house a few weekends ago, Saint Auggie is such a cool place! I consider myself to be very lucky to call Florida my beautiful home :)

I noticed that Trish made reservations vs Marc’s fly by the seat of your pants method. Does make for a more peaceful experience. Thank you for taking us along...love it. ♥️♥️♥️

I so would love to go to the Keys! This has to be one of my favorite KYD so far, the drone footage when you are driving down the road just blows my mind.

I try to be as patient with my husband as Marc and Trish are when giving directions or arriving to the campground. Love their dynamic. Hope to learn your ways soon enough. 💕

Another good RV park in St Augustine not on the beach is the Stagecoach RV Park. Its inland about 10 minutes from St Augustine. Nice and Quiet, new bathrooms and great folks all around. Easy to get to and short ride into St Augustine for night life. Great Video as always guys safe travels.

At the very beginning, do not remember what you said too busy laughing at Caleb! 🤣😂
My husband and I spent a week in St. Augustine, that was still not enough time. Just a beautiful city, so historic and a ton of things to see and do!

Love everything about this video! ... the tunes, videography, editing, locations. Exceptional!
That RV park in the Keys is exquisite!
As I sit here in the frozen North tundra; this video is at least thawing out my brain.

Glad you are enjoying Florida! If you are ever near Orlando or Daytona our family would love to host you for a night for dinner. We sold our RV last year but still love staying connected with other RV families. We’ve been following you guys for a few years now. You were our inspiration for buying our RV.

You guys are awesome. I must say, I’m impressed with Trish’s guns (20:00) 💪🏽! I’ve never been to the keys; I’ve visited Miami, Orlando, and many other places but the keys look like the place to be!
