  • In this video I reveal the 10 best and unmissable sights in the increasingly popular destination of Iceland. I explore areas like the "Golden Circle", "Jewels of the North" and "Pompeii of the North. I show you the best waterfalls, geysers, animals, thermal activity and landscapes to see. I also explore why a cruise may be the best way of getting around the challenges and limitations of getting around Iceland and to these sights. They are all accessed through a fe key gateways. I also explain why if you go to Iceland on a cruising vacation it needs to be a specific type of ship and cruise line.

    This video was amazing. You answered so many of my questions about cruising around Iceland. Thank you for such concise information. I have longed to visit Thingvellir National Park and walk the rift valley! I booked a cruise for May 2022! Hopefully everything will be open.

    Just found your channel! Subscribed right away! Your videos are VERY helpful and concise. Just got back from Iceland this past May. We missed a lot of things, despite our research, and I’d love to go back. Cruising sounds like a great option! 👍🏼💗

    Well, we missed three of your ten while were there... guess we'll have to go back! I'd second the idea of a small cruise ship being ideal to visit the highlights... but... driving one of the mountain routes from the south to north (or vice versa!) will let you see some magnificent scenery.
    And yes... the weather can be a challenge... we were there in late July/early August. Most of the days it never got above 14C and it rained for 12 of 15 days we were there.

    Thanks again for a great video. My partner and I were recently in Iceland with a few friends. It's so beautiful! We ended up renting an SUV and driving around the island for over a week, spending no more than 2 nights in any one spot. It was a little exhausting, as we spent a great deal of time driving from one spot on the coast to another. However, the views were jaw-dropping even just while driving between the main attractions. I want to go back, and you make a great case for doing it on a cruise next time. Take care :)

      Totally agree Gary, excellent tips and advice once again! We went on the 5th of August this year with HAL to Iceland and are planning to do so again next year. I can also recommend it too Josue, at the end of the day the comfort and luxury of the ship is definetely less exhausting and can be very pleasing indeed.

    I love you, I really do - but the Arctic Fox is not the only "indigenous animal" on Iceland (they don't eat plants, so what did they eat?) - rather they are the only indigenous land mammal on Iceland - they certainly have had other non-mammalian animals to consume :) Love your videos!!!

    Iceland air gives free layover time if you want to stop and explore Iceland on way to Europe or on return. No charge for extending the layover apparently. Don't quote me on this, check for yourself. I just thought it was a great idea.

    I’m afraid that if I go to Iceland on a cruise, I won’t have enough time in each port to do and see the things I really want to. But I’m having great difficulty finding accommodations to do it by land. Do you think a cruise is really a good idea and gives you enough time? Won’t I need to be running around and doing everything fast so that I can come back in time to the ship? 😅

      I went to Iceland on a cruise from Liverpool (where I live) in 2018. Also took in Orkney & the Faroes & visited 4 ports in Iceland with 2 days in Reykjavik. It's a no brainer to take a cruise - plenty of time at each port to take an excursion or just explore, accommodation & food all taken care of in what's a very expensive country. Lots of sailings from UK ports so no flying needed. Such a good idea, I'm going back again in July on another cruise from Liverpool. Well worth it & I'm a single traveller so paying hefty supplements, I can't imagine how much planning & expense would be involved trying to do the equivalent of a cruise itinerary by flying in & travelling by car.

    Dear Gary: do you mind if I ask you one question?.. Do you use Skype? If so does it function OK? I am questioning on that because at our computer it does constantly disappear… It’s my mother’s Skype account. Does require constant upgrades. For example, today my mother’s friend from Israel tried to call us on Skype, but the “receive the call” function vanished and everything was so unbelievably getting buffered and slow… Very very unnerving… My personal Skype became very dormant and inactive. After all the mental tortures of updating - upgrading it… all the contacts disappeared from my account, the function “make a call” disappeared… I asked some of my acquaintances here in Tula: they say, theirs Skype functions normally. Ours doesn’t at all… Does your Skype works all right???

    • @tipsfortravellers
      @tipsfortravellers  5 лет назад +2

      I don’t use Skype very often. About twice a year if that ! So can’t help I’m afraid!

    I disagree… was just on a cruise around iceland.
    Having been on iceland 4 times now, i can say for sure you see way more if you rent a car.
    We did that the first 3 times, and driving is the best way to explore the island.
    It also gives you the option of beeing spontaneous and change plans as you go.
    Cruise ships (windstar, starpride) is another form of experience, which would maybe be more suiteable if you are above 70
