Hi Dave, It's been a while since I've commented but this may be my favorite movie directed by Clint. Like you I saw this move on tv many times back in the 70s/80s. The great mountain climbing sequences plus a really good story which comes from a novel of the same name by Trevanian and I think he wrote at least two novels with Hemlock. Unforgiven I think is Clint Eastwoods' masterpiece but "The Eiger Sanction" has always been a personal favorite. Thanks for reminding me I have never owned a copy of this movie and need one.
I love this film so much, such a great looking '70s classics and one of Clint's best titles though rarely ever talked about. I still have the old LaserDisc even, incidentally. Compared to the Universal Blu-ray, I'd say KL's is a tad dark judging by the grabs over on caps-a-holic and those extras look very nice. Original painting artwork was great back in the day, strange we don't see this kind of artform anymore for movies, I've never seen the alternate one on the back there before. The late Brühl sure was lovely at the time, caught her also in an old Columbo episode. Incidentally, I'm there on Letterboxd as DoctorOtto. 🎞
Hi Larry. I love this film a lot too and I so agree with your thoughts about the KL version being dark. Will follow you on Letterboxd if not already. Happy Holidays!
I have yet to pick up a copy, but I love this movie. I really like movies about hitmen (don’t know why) and movies about mountain climbing (despite being a homebody myself), so, it’s a no brainer.
Been mildly obsessed with The Eiger Sanction since I saw it at 13 in the theater. It’s a glorious 70’s cheese fest and I mean that in the best way. Clint is an assassin/art professor/ mountaineering expert who hooks up with another govt agent, a hot black chick named (drum roll) Jemima Brown! How do beat that?! Doubt if I’ll ever get the Blue Ray but would like to hear the commentary, maybe it will show up on line sometime.
All I know about Eiger was the death of a English crewmember and mountaineer. Forgot his name, but Eastwood carried on filming, even after the incident occurred. Eiger seems to become a unknown film to the younger generation who like Eastwood. First time I ever saw the film was on the BBC in the mid-1980's. You could say, just a little bit, that Eiger is Eastwood's Cliffhanger 😆. Whatever you do, don't ever consider watching the film Avalanche.
Great movie, I got it in a Clint Eastwood 7-movie pack and had never seen it before. It was great to see George Kennedy in a serious role.
Totally agree that it was fun to see George Kennedy in a serious role.
Great movie. My favourite Clint Eastwood movie : Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
Oh yes, I have that one too and hope to make a video about it.

Hello. This is definitely one of my all time favorite films of the 1970s. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Oh yes, I heard this story and how Eastwood almost quit the film but then decided to keep going. Happy Holidays!
@@CinemaDaveMedia Happy Xmas and see you on the other side of 2022.
