Learning To Eat Like A Local In Malaysia

- We met up with a local Malaysian man called Syed and he showed us how to eat the Malaysian way! Learning to eat like a local in Malaysia is not an easy task and takes some practice, but to do so he took us to try some real Malaysian food in the local area of Kuala Lumpur including the authentic patin tempoyak (catfish in fermented durian sauce). It was our first time trying this Malaysian dish and we were pretty excited to try something weirder and more off the beaten path than what most foreigners try when in Malaysia.

Man, Mario's hand eating technique is really on point. He even uses his thumb to push the food from the fingers into the mouth.

BRAVO guys! Love to see both of you enjoying our Authentic Traditional Malay dish, Patin Tempoyak! plus the 'ulam'
It turned out to be one of our favourites now 🙌
Rimbun Dahan was founded and maintained by a famous architect and his family. They offer placements for artists to live and work there for a certain period of time to support the arts. They also dismantled two different types of traditional-style houses from different states, moved and reconstructed the houses on the Rimbun Dahan premises. At least that’s what I was told when I went there many years ago. Amazing place, really loved my visit
Yes, we managed to meet Angela Hijjaz while we were there. What a warm welcome
@@sunchildtine Ar Sek San was a visiting lecturer for my archi studio ~15 years ago. 🙂
Mario, loved the way you ate that dish !! just hilarious !! I am originally from czechia, and had never met any lithuanian before. But judging by your antics, they are quite a riot ! Had a great time watching this. esoecially becayse i had been to that airport numerous times and so many local restaurants...LEGENDS LEGENDS LEGENDS !!!

haha he is a great guide! love how he explain things to you guys and he definitely show some very interesting place!
Glad you enjoyed!
Lot of dish can be a local special, like ikan patin masak tempoyak (catfish with fermented durian) is a Pahang signature dish because of the ingredient. We can say a top quality for that specific fish in that dish can be acquire from Pahang.
Different state with different signature dish because of best-local ingredient. We can found it elsewhere but it hardly can be the best if we compare to the original place.
wa hebat semua menu tdk ketingglan ikan patin tempoyak
That was a real Malay foods right there...you guys literally just makes me hungry...
You are eating like a pro like locals
Pandan leaves are also know as Asian vanilla. Yes Worcestershire sauce was created from Asian recipes. So the local version in Malaysia is much older than the English version. So yes very likely England stole it from Malaysia 🤣
as Malaysian i'm impressed with the way you guys eating with hand and how Mario finish the tempoyak ! deserve my subscribe 🔥
Thanks 🙏🙏
Sedaaapnya..best
lovely. and great someone brought u to enjoy local malay cuisine
Not surprised that foreigner will like tempoyak. Me born and raised in Malaysia don't really like durian but i can go on second plate of rice with tempoyak. I also like soupy warm dessert added durian, northern Malaysian called it serawa durian!
It's not at all like we imagined it would be, durian can be so overwhelming, even smell alone, but this dish was on another level! Really glad we tried this.
Why I never get bored with you guys vlogs ❤️🔥
Thanks man, that means a lot 🙌
You look natural eating with your hand.
Mario is natural af with his hand. LOL first time trying and he's already that good. nice one guys. bringing the local to guide is definitely the major factor. village food is the best

Teh halia - milk tea with ginger
Kailan ikan masin - Chinese broccoli with salted fish
Kedondong asam boi - ambarella sour plum
Tempoyak catfish comes from Pahang, quite famous in Pahang state, most famous in temerloh, more interesting video if you find out the cooking methods and ingredients used in a dish no matter what type of cuisine
Will keep that in mind 👍
Ikan patin tempoyak tu kena makan dengan kuah nya sekali...isi ikan tu gigit sedikit demi sedikit... makan dengan nasi....combine dengan sambal bilis rangup baru sedap.klau boleh ikan patin tempoyak jangan makan dengan budu dan kailan ikan masin..nanti celaru rasanya....kalau patin tempoyak biar patin shj....
Come to Pahang...... City of patin tempoyak.....Temerloh
I'm craving for patin tempoyak now. btw you forgot to mention the price for the foods there
That was around RM90 for:
3 drinks
3 rice
2 patin tempoyak
2 fried patin
2 plateful of ulam
1 udang petai masak merah
1 ikan bilis petai
@@saf6996 wow quite expensive, I'm pretty sure because they ordered patin buah.
@@Zuqney I think the price is reasonable
@@Zuqney It's normal sir, the price of ready-cooked patin is around rm15-18.. Mr. SAF has also written that he takes 4 pcs of patin.. for the patin menu only, the price is rm60++ not including other menus :)
Thanks for sharing this!
