Thank you so much for documenting your PhD journey. I have been following your channel from its early days and it has helped a lot. I am currently a Master's student in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and I'll soon be starting with my PhD. Your channel has been a source of motivation and inspiration for me. Thank you.
This video is phenomenal! Congratulations. I just got offered a lab position as a PhD student in Computer Science in the SF bay area, US. You are inspiring. So many people need to see this video.
I must have watched this video 100 times during my MS in Bioinformatics. It not only helped me understand imposter syndrome but also helped me acquire my degree! Thank you so much for posting such an amazingly motivating video!
This is easily one of the best PhD videos I've seen. Well done and congratulations on finishing the journey! I'm looking forward to going back and watching your previous videos now. Thank you for putting all of this out into the world.
Really awesome Lucy. Congratulations on your achievements. Very inspirational. I'm a third year PhD student in education and your videos are really helpful and motivating. So much food for thought!
What commendable energy, stamina and passion you have. Really inspired and motivated by your continuous hard work and dedication. stay blessed doctorrrr
Wonderful summary video - thank you, have bought my copy of Plutoshine, congratulations on the many amazing successes, particularly, PhD, Author and great job with wonderful colleagues. All best, Gerry
I cried happy tears at the end especially after your viva! You are SOOO inspiring juggling all the different projects during your phd. I’m in my first year, going to second year and I don’t think I’m doing even a third of what you’re doing. I would love to expand my creative writing skills too, on top of PhD and connect with people online. Thank you for your channel! You deserve all the success from your hard work!
Thank you for your videos! I am actually like losing hope since my field is also very difficult. But no matter what, I will just put up a fight, fight the good fight, fight for dreams as an Envi Engr, and then document everything (no matter what happens....this is me and my only very unique and special experience in life... only peope who pushed to another level can relate)... Hehe. Vlog everything. When I did vlog for the first time my experiment today, I suddenly felt good. So no matter how hard it is, it still feels like I've accomplished something hehehe. You inspired me. Thank you~🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thank you for creating this channel and sharing your experience. Academia is tough, i wonder how many students saw hope through your videos, that is it ok to struggle and that in the end we are only humans trying to explore the universe the best way we can.
Oof! That was a ride. So... I came here from AO3... I know. Weird, right? I read a fanfiction like, 20 years ago that greatly impacted me and I thought of going back to check on it, and realiced there was an update! the author had published an original novel! Woah! Definetly gonna check that out. I looked her name up and ended up here. Man it's cool not only to put a face to her all these years later but also to find out what she's been up to... If you guys like reading do go buy her book. Judging for the fanfic she wrote she is not only an ass kicking scientist, but a hell of a writer.
Hi Lucy, thank you so much for documenting your journey. I've just finished a BSc in Geology and am about to apply for my first PhD program. I'm excited, yet terrified and the imposter syndrome is definitely real. It's really comforting to watch your videos as a young female geoscientist who wants to go a similar direction. A massive thank you ❤️
Thank you so much for this compilation video Lucy!! It is amazing and so inspiring to see your journey. Congratulations on your PhD, your novel (wow what waking early can do!!) and your job!
Thank you for sharing your journey. Humanizing a PhD candidate is not easy and you did it very well. That's a tough path in our lives that is very rewarding though. I took more than one year to be able to open my thesis without having mixed feelings about it. That's a life changing experience.
Congratulations! I will keep coming back to this video as my PhD progresses; I'm in my 3rd year now so hopefully there's little left. I love your storytelling skills so I'll definitely give your book a go. Can't believe you've been on YT for a few years and I haven't noticed your channel, stupid algorithem.
Thank you so much Lucy for sharing your wonderful phd life with us and really you had done a great job as a scholar I can say. May the almighty bless you
Inspiring! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and wisdom in Graduate Studies journey. It helps me a lot and I finished my study because of your tips and advise.
I've loved watching your journey, it reminds me that it's possible. Your novel also arrived via a happy postman this morning so I look forward to reading it soon! I hope you're proud of all you've achieved, you should be :)
Thank you so much for sharing with us every detail of your Ph.D. journey and I would be so happy for more videos to see your gorgeous face and mellow voice. gongratulatıons (:
Hey Lucy I'm a geology major PhD candidate at University of Toronto. I read your EPSL paper and it is really awesome work!! Just out of curiosity, what software do you use to make nice plots on a Mac? Thanks!
I have watched several of your videos. They are all interesting and very well done! I also became curious and took a closer look at your PhD thesis. My background is in physical chemistry so I am very familiar with synthesis and characterization of materials. Honestly, your PhD would have been a much cheaper and probably even better experience if you had done it in Austria (Vienna, Innsbruck or Graz). With a 4-year contract as a university assistant, you would have earned about 28000 Euros per year after taxes, and there are virtually no tuition fees (imagine that!). Overall, compared to England, the living situation is much cheaper and at least as good (if not better) in terms of quality. You could have saved much more money for your house. Also, the field of study you have chosen is particularly strong in Austria and therefore at a very high level. I have the impression that you paid a lot of money just for the label "Oxford University" and you had quite some additional disadvantages because of that. Seriously, does it now pay off in any way that you studied at Oxford?

I needed this. The wrong notion that until you work yourself to exhaustion you're not working yet is depressing.
Well done Lucy.

I hope that my comment wasn't offending you, Lucy. That wasn't my intention at all and if it did, I'm sorry.
Good
Please continue your RUclips
