Echoing Catalin's statement. Listening to Radio Free Europe every evening with my mum was the fondest memory I have of that dark period. They gave hope to an entire country, and now we are, indeed, free.
*Might is right.* White people invaded America, slaughtered 12+ Million, herded the rest into reservations, where they still languish, to create USA. Why is USA still around? Because the native people are still weak. British White people had a good run invading countries, enslaving people, colonizing... they were mighty. Now British people are obese and Britain is rotting from within. Russia and China are getting stronger. Expect many border corrections.

I'm not a MAGA supporter at all, but this is how US politics works. The Transportation Secretary, through all of our issues with shipping, logistics, and supply chains, has been Pete Buttigieg the mayor of a small college town. All he did to earn that was drop out and endorse Biden at the right time. It's just one of infinite examples of presidents using the cabinet as a reward to loyalists and nothing to do with skill.
what the speaker about Odessa forgets to mention is that Odessa has not historically been a russian leaning or russian speaking city. Decades of russification, russians moving to Odessa and russian propaganda on TV have made it like that.
The clashes resulted in deaths of 48 people, 46 of whom were anti-Maidan/pro-Russian activists. 42 of the victims died in the Trade Unions House fire, 200 were injured, 120 people were rescued from the fire and a further 210 were evacuated.

Sorry but the guy speaking about Odesa knows very little about its history. There was a settlement on the site of Odesa BEFORE Catherine established Odesa. And the people there naturally spoke Ukrainian until the Russian Empire and then USSR Russified them. This is the same case in many places in Ukraine. That's what over 300 years of occupation and Russification will do.
*Might is right.* White Christian Europeans invaded America, slaughtered 12+ Million, herded the rest into reservations, where the still languish. And USA still exists. Why? Now the British are rotting from within. *Naïve Ukrainians because a proxy of the British and started killing ethnic Russians. Apparently the Ukrainians have concluded that the Orc war criminals will be dealt with in the field. The odds that these Orcs will ever be dealt with through the courts is close to zip.
Tulsi Gabbard as Intelligence Secretary is a bad sign for Ukraine. She was one of the first to oppose support for Ukraine, and to parrot Russian talking points.
On Catalina: yes, but now it appears to be 1933-Germany at the helm of Western leadership, How can the world survive even economically...In the markets only Warren Buffet seems to realize this.
It is easy enough to understand why Mr Evans prefers Odessa to London (no third-world immigration), or why he married a local lady rather than an one from England (no feminism). How long would this state of affairs last should the Ukraine join the EU?
Something I noticed is that Biden's "Kiev stands strong!" in the intro was very quiet (but still there) while Kamala was running for president, but now that she has lost ... Biden appears to be president again and his voice is back to being loud. Anyone else notice that?
No, I hear it at the same volume as before. It does seem to be squashed between two others, but it was before - so no different according to my ears. Here in the U.K.
I was never interested in traveling then, though I was naggedly urged to, there were two countries I was told to visit in the 1990s. I recall hearing _alot_ about Ukraine, Odessa and Kiev in particularly as supposedly the most beautiful of European cities in Ukraine. Perhaps I should have gone then. Maybe I would have met the right woman myself there like this author visiting Opera houses, historical sites and museums while pounding the pavements of the streets of Odessa. I'll keep a look out for his book next time I'm in a bookstore to peruse it. Maybe I'll buy it. Better than hearing about France.
All this going on and what the feck have we got to defend ourselves ? Two free gear starmer and thick as a plank lammy god give us strength as there is no one else to do it 😢
Russia has flatly refused Trump's peace plan even b4 it became official. Lavrov said that frozen conflict benefits the losing side as it may be armed to the teeth by allies during the armistice. Russia will therefore continue the special military operation until full de-nazification of Ukraine or its capitulation whichever the soonest. Inrerestingly, Russia did not object to the part of the plan, whereby UK troops were to be stationed in Ukraine.
The republicans will do everything they can to stop all US support for Ukraine. Trump will also try and stop anything already promised to Ukraine from getting there. Trump will also do everything he can to help Russia and Vladimir Putin.
As citizen of a nation that tried to take Odessa by force in WWII with genocidal side-effects, Odessa is 100% Russian and will remain like that no matter what.
This episode is pretty off the chains on incorrect info. Terrible guest with poor historical understanding telling us about his thoughts and feelings, not facts. Dom still seems lost to the location of much of anything in Ukraine. And any take on US politics is so wrong it is messing up listerns views of how any of it works
@evilaquaman there is a lot lot better than this out there. And incorrect information isn't a variety of guests or ideas it is just incorrect information and souk have a place here.
Catherine the great renamed the city Khadjibey into Odessa Khadjibey (Turkish: Hacıbey; Ukrainian: Коцюбіїв) was a fortress and a haven by the Gulf of Odesa, in the location of the modern city of Odesa, Ukraine. The settlement was destroyed and abandoned in the 15th of 16th century and was revived under the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century. The Russian army took the fortress and settlement in 1789 during the Russo-Turkish War, a battle was fought near Khadjibey in 1790, and, in 1792, the territory was annexed by the Russian Empire.[2]
I CANNOT over say how much a appreciate your reporting. It is the best the most sane voice I can find!
