The Mars Volta really did come back better than ever. Even after everything, Cedric still has his voice; and they’re still playing all the fan favorites at live concerts. They even got Eva Gardner back on bass! TMV forever!
No. They didn’t. Be honest. Half assed performances littered with mistakes. We can all see the videos from the early 00s. They used to be badass. This is a money grab and a damn shame.
@@Palefirecreative I watched them live 2x in the early 00s (small venue and large) and saw them live last year. Less raucous energy, but the vocals and sound are much better now. The set they put on sounded almost exactly like the record.
@@Palefirecreativetheir close to 50 dude. You really think they’re supposed to have the same energy. And you think they didn’t make tons of mistakes in the early 2000’s ? I seen them 16-19 times from 2002 - present. This is a badass rebirth of the band they are more mature not, doing things differently, with a different approach. It shows in Omar’s playing / pedals/ approach. This is about grooving and less about complete atonal chaos playing as fast as they can with tons of effects. I’ve seen cash grabs and if anything this is a “Thank you” to the fans that have followed, they are playing “the hits” they are human and are finding what the project means to them now, since they aren’t 20 something angsty punks playing Music as an FU to the industry.
I remember when I watched a live show of MV on TV and the band opened with Inertiatic ESP. I was like WTF is this crap. I'm a classic rock/ metal guy that didn't realize I was stuck in a certain type of music formula. But I have to admit the Esp song stuck in my mind. So I watched the whole concert again some time after and became obsessed with the Mars Volta. I can't say how happy I am to see the band together again. Now my greedy side hopes they will make album after album!!!
They are like the widespread panic doppelganger. Amazing live but like the evil twin. Jimmy herring and Omar Rodriguez Lopez damand your attention in a authoritative way. Love it!
I FUCKING knew these guys would get better when they got older, started coloring in the lines. Stopped flipping around so much and focus on their art instead of their calisthenics. Omar is playing the guitar instead strangling it, and Cedric is singing within his vocal range instead of trying to reproduce the studio recordings which he always seemed to struggle to nail live. Also, sounds like maybe they tuned down a hair, which is super helpful to vocalists. LIKE A FINE WINE!!!!!
Marcel and Eva are OG’s. Marcel has basically been performing with them since the beginning, he came on board before France released and has been with them since
As bummed as I was to find out that Juan wasn't going to be with them, it is pretty rad that they reconnected with their first bass player after she had become largely in demand by pop stars. Her tone here is massive.
In all fairness the new drummer is really good, in fact the whole band was solid and fun. I look forward to another album. I miss Jon too but the new band sounds great.
Lol these are crayon drawings barely depicting the album versions. Yes I know variations are inherent to live shows, but the historical record shows these guys always disappoint. Big fan.
I disagree, but understand where you're coming from. Have you been to a show on this tour, though? They sound incredible. Cell phone videos are a low-ink pen drawing of the performances. I think their past shows usually suffered from bad mixes a lot of the time, and a lot of meandering from Omar. But this tour was different. Cygnus is the only song approaching the meandering I was talking about, although again, it sounds much better in person. If you're a huge fan, I highly recommend you catch them the next time you can. My girlfriend thought they were pretty good when we listened to the albums around the house, but I was worried that their mentioned live flaws would turn her off. But, after we saw them, she became obsessed. She constantly listens to their music and even researches the stories behind the albums. She even wants to take a last minute trip to Mexico to see them at Hipnosis. I'm telling you, you've gotta see them for yourself!
Honestly I agree for a lot of their past shows but they seem pretty on point this tour. I think Cedric is finally off the drugs n shit so he can actually sing. Omar's guitar has always been the shit album or live. That guys a fucking machine and a creative behemoth.
They played more together on this tour then when I saw the In like 2010-2011 wax tour in Chicago . Like the mix was mud and loud back in the day the dynamics as a whole and cedricks voice was on point this time around. I saw them day 3 in Hollywood this yr

Also they're damn near 50 - no way they'd be able to keep up that kind of performance these days.

I'd love to watch a drum cam view of this
Eva’s bass sounds like a fucking earth quake.
dang, can't believe you held your spot despite the crowd. that show was rad!
lol i didnt notice the sticks at the show, but dang! haha i saw atleast 2 pieces flying upwards

De hecho Eva la bajista estubo haciendo coros cuando los vi en Denver

Best drummer since Jon Theodore 👌✌️✌️✌️
Great. Thanks a lot! I hope you can upload all TMV videos you got...

Tan Adam Friedland sure can wail…
Don’t do cedric like that, he doesn’t talk in stupid vocal fry 👀
Why’d it cut off during Omar’s solo 😭
How the fuck could anybody complain about the ten years later reunion of the Mars Volta. Y’all kinda silly for that
Does anybody knows who were the musicians here?
So is everyone from pretty much every iteration of the band gone now? Just Cedric and Omar the OGs?
Eva is OG
Eva is a founding member of the band, Marcel came in on Frances. So only Philo and Leo are new.

Jon should've been there....
No, he shouldn’t have.
Yeah it doesn't appear that there are any original members aside from the 2. Wtf
