I have to say though, that this is one of the extremely rare times when I disagree with your interpretation of facts. I think you skipped over the most important part of Haiti’s history, which was the part where France imposed an agreement on Haiti to pay them reparations for whooping them so brutally in trying to free themselves from their rule. This can’t be ignored when bringing up all the corruption and unstable governments that followed. If you really dig into what happened and the timeline, I think Haiti might be the only country that has a good case for deserving reparations. Their crazy debt made no sense.

Serfdom in essence was highly controlled chattel slavery, as often children were sold from their parents by the lord of the land often into more serfdom where the same would occur.. serfdom was never ending toil. Many lords were kind, would allow travel. Many lord were the opposite wouldnt allow the basics. What was practiced in the west was just a rushed form of that.

Problem with the knife analogy is that the injury never heals. Even after the wound is healed by reparations, there will be mental scarring. Like people who have amputation have phantom pain. Some of these people who are descendants and living in western countries complaining of slavery (which was bad) may if they there ancestors weren’t brought to the west have been killed in local tribal native wars so would not exist now. People demanding reparations are the racist’s. For all we know their ancestors may have been profiting off of the slave trade. No one knows with 100% certainty what their ancestors did a century or more ago to survive.

My family fought and died during the Civil War. They were from New York. Reparations were paid in blood.
Chattel slavery did not begin in the 1400's. It existed thousands of years prior. The atlantic slave trade didn't really begin until well into the 1500's. Also where did this great revolution of slaves to free themselves happen? It wasn't slaves that freed themselves, it was the free men that did that work.

Yeah no one seems to be fighting for the end of slavery by black people of the Pygmy people enslaved in the mining of rare earth minerals. No mention of them being manumítete and paid reparations by their black African masters.
The focus is so heavily levied against the west, they completely gloss over everything including the rich oil barons and Saudi princes in the Middle East to the African kingdoms that profited highly off their slave trades.
When you understand the scope and scale of it, you begin to see the truth. When these same questions are brought up against the pro reparations crowd, they deflect, obfuscate, and lie. Then you realize it has nothing about correcting a past wrong, and everything to do with power dynamics and taking what others have.
I have no white guilt. I owned no slaves nor did any of my direct descendants throughout the 1800s, as far as I have researched my descendants born in the 1700s, I have yet to investigate. But even if they had owned slaves, that is not my burden to carry today.
This teacher is brilliant, she speaks with data and facts from history.

If these people were really concerned about slavery, why aren’t they concentrating their efforts on ending the slavery that is still being practiced in many parts of the world? They appear to be more interested in a payday for people who have never been slaves from people who have never owned slaves.
Because they don’t care about anyone but themselves and they know westerners are easily manipulated when this topic is used so they are trying to take advantage.
The same way you are benefitting from your slave owning ancestors is the same difference between us getting to benefit from our enslaved ancestors who have never been paid/compensated.
The reparations is not about each Black person receiving a purse of money but more about the Black community being repaired from the damage done. That can be in the form of corrective education in the Black communities about their history, corrective housing, giving back what was stolen from African nations....

My great great great grandfather came to America from Germany at 15 as an indentured servant with his little brother. They suffered horribly, but the two of them ended up building a successful farm together. They never owned slaves, lived in a state that never allowed slaves, probably never even saw a black person in their lives

I’d imagine it to be a similar conversation I had with my late grandfather who grew up in a mountain farm of Laos. He got so mad at me slacking on my studies and said to me that he did not work so hard for so long for me to become an entitled whiner. He did the hard part, now I needed to build off what he established.

My family is Japanese/French canadian. My grandmother was born and raised in Okinawa and barely spoke English. When she was 8, both of her parents died. She was raised by her two sisters and brother who were only a few years older than her. Not only that, but she lived in a cave with her brother and sisters when America invaded Okinawa. She met my grandfather when he was stationed there in the Air Force and she married him, had a family, moved to America, worked and retired. She died 2 years ago, having lived a fulfilled life, even after the shit she went through. Will I get reparations for her home being invaded by America? Or how about the family she had that lived in Hiroshima when it was bombed? She indeed did have family there. Gone in the blink of an eye. Reparations for us too? Or is it only for black people today 😢who ALSO haven’t gone through REAL disgusting acts of humanity? This convo is stupid. Black people weren’t the only slaves. While people were enslaved during the Barbary slave trades. Who amongst them gets reparations?

Vlad Tepes is probably a major leader to fight to free his people from the terror of islamic invaders. He lacked a big army which is why he used fear tactics. Also adopting the name Dracula (Son of the dragon or devil) to scare the invaders even hearing his name. The impaled forest he created to scare the invaders had to be pure nightmare fuel. I'm shoddy on the history completely though. I know part of his reason of fighting back is because the islamic invaders kept conscripting kids and young men to force them to fight for them. Which was arguably a way worse form of slavery as the women were immediately sold into sex slavery and the men were almost all castrated and forced to row ships until they literally died. It’s something like only 1 in 10 actually survived long enough to make it to the slave trade stations. If they made it they were forced to build things for them and were kept in extremely overcrowded jails where they died from malnutrition and disease.

This is a key point ! Europeans didn’t invent the African slave trade, it was in full flow before any white folk turned up. Now we know, and are appalled by Europeans taking advantage of / increasing the trade in Africans but Africans themselves need to be honest about what really happened. Beyond that,, who sold them into slavery all over the world in the first place? Their own people did. Plus, where would their lives be if they were not sold, would their lives had been better…no, because they were already slaves in Africa. @@inthefade I'd say most modern slaves in america are trafficked men, women and children. Mainly through the southern border. I read that around 80% of women and children smuggled into the country have be SA and are placed into slavery. Border Patrol even states this.

It got touched on in this video but the two grifters chose to dismiss it. The lady that said the Atlantic slave trade wasn’t about race is actually correct, despite that sounding shocking to most people. Slaves, all throughout history, have been the most vulnerable people in society and never selected based purely on skin colour. If it was about skin colour then why didn’t the Europeans just take anyone they could? It was because they were in business with certain black tribes who sold the most vulnerable Africans.

That opening monologue by Katherine Birbalsingh was the single best oration against the insanity of reparations that I have heard yet. Every person on the planet needs to hear that I believe.
