  • Hello and welcome. Today we take a look at the ‪@FNAmericaLLC‬ Reflex. I first saw the Reflex at the 2023 NRA show at Indianapolis and I couldn't wait to get my hands on one. When I finally did, it was a bit disappointing. Please keep in mind that this is MY experience with this pistol. Sample size of one. Perhaps my experience would be different with a different sample but ‪@FNAmericaLLC‬ does not send me guns to review. So, I got what I got. I really, really wanted to like this pistol and for it to become my EDC.
What are your thoughts on the ‪@FNAmericaLLC‬ Reflex? I look forward to your comments.
Thank you for stopping by and God Bless.

Some reviews say it's the softest micro carry, some say it's one of the snappiest... All I know is it's definitely softer than a Kimber Micro 9 lol I didn't have any issues for ~1k rounds (S/N 4xxx). The slide started to rust & I sent it into FN, they replaced it & had it back within a week. Took it to the range & had Light Primer Strikes at least once every mag using the same lot of AAC & BPS 124gr Id been using the whole time. Called FN again, explained how perfect mine was before they replaced the slide & they told me as long as it fires 124gr Federal there's no issue. So I went from having a perfectly functioning Reflex that shot amazing, to having a paperweight that only shoots one brand of ammo.
The 500 series (509,510,545) are hands down my favorite striker fired pistols. The SCAR is hands down my favorite Piston driven rifle platform. The Reflex had the potential to be my favorite micro, but with the finish problems (they rust ALOT), LPS, and feeding issues I just can't recommend it right now. I'll try another one out when they hit year 3 of production.

I watched this 4-5 times and took in every word you said.
I don't believe FN made any such ammo gr weight statements. I'd like to hear directly from the gun owner, and WHO he spoke with at FN. Facts please. The Owner's Manual does not state any bullet gr weight restrictions from page 6 through page 12. Only that SAMI and CID ammunition be used.
And if anything, using an extended mag base extension allowing full three finger grip should improve target accuracy.
I submitt it was pure operator error. You state you had no such accuracy issue. FN has been a quality firearm manufacturer longer than anyone of us have been alive.

I’ve never been a fan of FN’s handguns and their response or lack there of is unacceptable for sure. I do love my SCAR 17S though…

Thank you for another honest review! Back when these 1st hit the market, an FN rep was at my range demo'ing them for the range staff. They were 2 lanes away from me and seemed to be having alot of jams.

I'm only on 200 rounds out of mine. I have a Holosun ECS green dot and sighted in today. The sights do co-witness though barely. Once I sighted in my dot it was on time. Very accurate especially for a micro. I even mad hits at 25 yard aiming for a specific area of my target and had a tight group. When I shot the metal sights as most have said it is for sure shooting low and left so I have to knock the rear sight over but it's fine at close range. I did not have one malfuntion at all with 115 grain ball Mag-tech. I bought mine used. It's a gem so far.

I had one and sold it. It was reliable for me and felt better in my hand than any other micro, but for a carry gun I thought the trigger felt much too light. Everyone is different but that's what did it for me.

You made a good point on the loaded chamber indicator. Smith & wesson m & p has similar style; i wonder if it does the same to optics.

I’ve heard mixed things about this gun. What was the build date on the MRD reflex in the video? The extractor seems to be a sticky point and some issues were encountered as there wasn’t a radius on the lower edge like other pistols have. Regardless I think most of the issues people are having are just teething issues with a first year gun. PS - I just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for doing this review!

Did FN say not to use 115gr in the manual? I doubt it. Any factory gun today should run 115, 124, 147 factory ammo. Now some subsonic stuff maybe it might have trouble but that's a specialty load. I know you have proper grip, watched you for quite some time and have to say the opening firing of the pistol it looked under sprung. That muzzle never returned to POA after any shots fired. If I were him that is what I 'd be experimenting with and watching locking block for battering wear. If it's under sprung it'll show up fast.

      Your correct.
The Owner's Manual pages 6 - 12 state to use SAMI and CIP rated ammo. No mention of bullet weight .
It also stated to NOT use + P+ ammo.

I agree with your conclusion that since the pistol is marketed as an EDC arm, it should be more forgiving and universal when it comes to ammunition. However, I think you're not seeing the entire picture. You kind of hit on it when you mentioned "military contractor". They are engineering their firearms to MEET US DoD specifications for ammunition (124 grain 9mm). SIG's M17/18/P320 models are engineered in the same way.
Who would you engineer your products for, the very small [and very competitive] civilian CC market or the DoD?

Many surprises here: The gun is not a striker-fired gun! FN's poor customer service. FN's recommendation to only use 124 grain, and not mentioning the recommended break-in period in the manual.

Customer service was solid for me personally, that being I didn’t like the lack of any safety features like a trigger or manual safety with how light the trigger is, I traded it for a shield plus, its definitely a better pick than an fn reflex

Could be user issue. Ammo requirements should be in the manual

    • @MDpolo
      @MDpolo  2 месяца назад

It was not user issue. I’m not the best marksman out there, but I know what I’m doing. Also, 4 different shooters experience the same malfunctions well shooting the pistol that I featured in this video. Thank you for stopping by.

😂 FN does have poor customer relation service. With three different guns; SCAR16, M16 & FNX45 in three seperate complaints, they blamed me for “not adequately lubricating” the guns for the malfunctions they have exhibited.

I like the look of FN models. I had the same issues in the beginning, but after about 100 rounds, mine has been good. I just wish FN would improve their triggers in the 509. Good info as always.👍

  • @Disastrous.Affect

I have not had the issues that I hear about and I have 3 of these pistols. I typically only shoot 124 gr because I have some carbines that don't like 115gr, so I don't bother buying it. I have 3 because the first one was the non MRD version and I wanted a dot.
But I decided I wanted two tone guns, so I bought the FDE & black MRD versions and swapped slides and such.👍
I have only 3 complaints on these pistols.
    1. Combat sight picture, I don't know why this has become the default sight picture.🤦‍♂
    2. Polymer guide rod... it is 2024, stainless has been available for eons and the weight is insignificant.🤷‍♂
    3. The loaded chamber indicator.... it's not needed and gasses my dot...
But other than these 3 things, they are easily my favorite EDC, and the recoil is loads better than my OSP Hellcat.

I agree about the CS, that’s unacceptable. That’s an easy way to lose customers it seems to me. I’ve had two FN guns, only one now, and had had no problems with mine so no personal experience with their CS, and based on what your friend experienced, I’m glad I haven’t.
I’ve only seen one in the wild, the non optics model.

500 rounds or more are needed to trust a gun in any case, plus 200 or more of the actual carry ammo. Thank you for the review!

I loved mine the first time I had it out to the range but after that the problems started. I simply could not get through a magazine without FTF issues, which occurred with both 115 grain and 124 grain ammo. I shipped it back to FN and their response was “shooter mechanics!” I have a wide variety of handguns and my “mechanics” seem to work well with each and every other gun I own. In addition, the internet is littered with other shooters experiencing the same issues, do they all have poor “shooter mechanics” as well? FN’s response was unacceptable and I very much doubt the Reflex will ever gain my trust as an EDC.

    "No problem found"
Perhaps it was poor hand fit, grip too short and limp wrist were the cause for issues. Lubrication? Be honest.
I don't keep a pistol if It doesn't meet my expectations after 100 -150 rounds. You consign sell it and consider your loss as rent for your pleasure.
