How to Make Disciples That Make Disciples

- When a man named Brian Dye started coming to Preston’s poetry events, Preston admits he didn’t trust him. But Brian had a burden to see young believers walk toward sanctification, and he felt called by God to help Preston to cultivate his influence. Brian’s pursuit of Preston and their ongoing discipleship relationship is the topic of today’s episode. Jackie, Preston and Brian discuss the pastoral nature of investing your life into someone else’s life and teaching as you go, and how discipleship doesn’t require creating a new program.

Wooow finally meeting the man!! What an honor. He is so humble, kind-hearted, and wise. What a great guest. 💕
No gimmick at all. Just how he is face to face.
I purchased your book yesterday. How to tell the truth Really really good. I’m old saint (not ain’t)… Lol. Trying to learn more about the next generation & trying to reach them for the Lord.
And Imma clap and sing with Jackie everytime. 🫡Cuz it’s the saints and the aintsssss😤 👏🏾🎶
I like it! It’s a little hip shake 😂
lol not sure why it’s not their theme song already.
😂😂😂😂
😂😢
😂😂😂😂
Man... part of me wishes this was like 3 more hours long. Blessed conversation.
Facts
Same!! It’s TOO short for me lol
Brian truly shows why he is a mentor. His observation speaks before he does. Powerful presence.
I agree he has a rare anointing. He is a true leader of the gospel. I am grateful to see him here. I am new to Preston and Jackie and I love them. They are real. We need more of this in the body. It's happening as God said it would. Exciting!
Sometimes, even in silence, we can be heard... those that have an ear, let them hear what the Lord is saying. " Pause for the cause of Christ " this flesh has to die daily.
You can tell that Brian is very humble. I love the way you guys honored him.
Discipling Boyz In Tha Hood sounds like a great movie idea or documentary ❤
After watching and listening to Brian,I understand Preston more 😊
I really see the Jesus in Brian. His poise, his knowledge and wisdom He reminds me of my grandfather.
I pray that God continues to bless that man.
One of my favourite guests. You guys have talked about Brian so much. Right out the gate I love how free you both are with Brian. The full personalities are out ❤.
i seriously loved this so much! i pray the Lord sends me a mentor like this 🤍
I thank God that he brought a wonderful person who disciples me. I know that I am living for Christ because of her.
Please bring Brian back! I love how the both of you honored Brian however I’m really intrigued to hear about how God brought him to where he is now! Also what is he doing today and how is he still allowing the Lord to still work within him! Im interested in his story ❤️
He's still in the same places...basically in the streets living out the Gospel and the Great Commission. He's the type of person you run into while he's on mission. First time I met him at a Shai Linne concert years ago...just walked up to me and started talking to me for no reason, just like Preston descibed...and he had a crew of young dudes with him. Last time I saw him, randomly ran into him at a Watch Night service on the other side of the city. The "bigger" things I've heard him working on presently are Hood Heroes where they hire kids to do community work in the hood during the summer and J29 Homes where they buy and rehab vacants to provide to a low income family. His hands are in a lot of ground level service work in the city. I'm putting it on blast because he won't say a thing...unless he's looking for some volunteers or financial support for the people he's serving. It's all for the glory of Jesus.

Noooo you guys are sold out every where 🥲 love to see it but bummed I will miss out!!! Praying God continues to bless your ministry
This completely spoke to my heart. Thank you for having Brian on your podcast! While watching this, as a christian, I was and am challenged to lay down my life for others, especially for the role the Lord is leading my husband and I into. Thank you again for sharing this!!!
The power was in the fact that Pres said Brian spoke to him in a human and humble way. THIS is discipleship!!! I am so tired of the "form" of discipleship so shaded in with/by the spirit of religion! I am so tired. The narcissistic abuse, gaslighting and created environments of codependency on people istead of God is sickening.
So well said...I totally agree!
Wheww!! This is the truth.
Ty Brian and Heidi ❤
Preston speaks so much like Brian! Would love to see Heidi on the podcast too!😊
Jackie and Preston are a little younger than me. As a survivor mom of two I wonder sometimes why God allows some to suffer in The Valley longer than others. The other day it randomly came to my mind ‘I know that this struggle has a purpose but how much longer Lord… what else does someone like Preston and Jackie need to do to grow in their faith out of the wilderness’ this podcast was a strange answered prayer and a little reminder that God cares about the tiny details and reminds you in small ways that he will honor your story and get the glory. Mentoring is a journey amen. Thank you
I felt this. Single survivor mom of 4. I couldn't have said it any better. Thank you❤
As a woman who lived in Chicago, on the West Side. And lost her Mom to domestic violence at the age of 13.
It’s such a blessing to know God developed a work on the West Side and that it continues. May God continue to bless and shine his light upon you all!❤
Favorite guest you guys have had! Loved this conversation!! Didn't want it to end!! Love how the three of you guys interact! 🔥 ✝️
Saints and the ain'ts is a number 1 hit. I love it.
Yes discipleship is so important. I love how he mentioned sharing scriptures that you know even if you feel like you can’t disciple others. Social media can sometimes make you feel like your not good enough to share Gods word to others.
Good Content… This is what true discipleship looks like… you go to the dirtiest places of darkness and let The Lord Jesus shine through you then He gets The Glory. It is hard work but at the end of it all it is very rewarding. True discipleship glorifies God and Not we ourselves. It is good to see someone in the earth that claims the name of Christ and actually does it the way Jesus did it. I want to encourage you Brother Brian with a scripture Hebrews 6:10 one of my favorites. Continue to disciple others as they follow your model to follow you as you continue to follow Christ ❤🙌💯
Wow… Brian is the “Paul” in Preston’s life (a father in the Lord to Preston). They talk so much alike. This is an example of “follow me as I follow Christ” that Apostle Paul spoke about. I pray you all walk with the Lord in true holiness and sanctification till the very end of your lives, in Jesus Christ’s name. I love you guys (and Jackie too of course) ❤❤❤
Pleeeease bring Brian back🙏. And make the session longer.
You both honor Brian in such high regard. It’s wonderful to finally put a face to a name & testimony.
I can tell the relationship you guys have with Brian runs deep. He is a true friend that has played a key role in yall’s life. Especially the broski Preston. 33:46
"I mean it sounded strange to me"🤣🤣🤣Jackie is a trip
This did not feel like 50 min. I was about to say why would yall have such a short episode.
This episode got me feeling all types of emotions 😭
Please invite him back! Episode went so quickly!!
Why was this not longer. He has to come back😢
I want an authentic discipler and I would love to disciple someone else.❤❤❤ Great podcast. What a gem.❤❤❤
This white man keep following me around..😅😅😅😅
😅
The strength of God is all over Brian. This was a well rounded and insightful portrait of DISCIPLESHIP.
Thank you Brian, Heidi, Preston, and Jackie ❤
God is so faithful.
love listening to you both.. God always has us where He needs us. All through His Holy Spirit
This was so so beautiful, so thankful for your example Brian, you and Heidi! even in public, so humble.
This one blessed me much more than I thought it would, I didn't want this one to end. Learning about Brian and the way he leads with such humility, a love for God, His word, and love for His people is inspiring/encouraging. Thank you so much for having him on ❤
I want to be like Brian as I grow. You can tell he’s dedicated to Christ and the church. He’s dope!
Wow! I truly enjoyed this segment. Gosh discipleship is so important, love the love and accountability here it’s real, it’s pure.
This was so beautiful and encouraging 🥹🙏🏾
You got to sing the saints and the ain'ts in the style of the Max and Ruby theme song 😂😂
Wow, this THEE Brian! Love it!
what a conversation whew 🫶🫶
This was beautiful. There is so much to learn in this walk of faith. I'm looking at discipleship in a whole new way.
30:43 IDP individual discipleship plan.
1Thessolonians 5:14 😮❤ wow that was good
Aww this was such a fruitful convo. I learned a lot and I see the love and appreciation amongst you all! 😊
“Discipleship and good leaders are so pivotal in the body of Christ.” -Preston Perry
💯💯🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏾🙌🏾❤️❤️♥️♥️✝️✝️
“The task of a leader is to die first.” -Brian Dye
In Christ, this means that leaders must not think of themselves , but instead focusing on serving others.
💯💯💯✝️✝️✝️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏾🙌🏾♥️♥️❤️❤️
“Discipleship doesn’t mean you have to create a new program. What does your life look like? You don’t have to change your life, just invite people into it.” - Jackie Hill Perry
💯💯💯🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾❤️❤️♥️♥️
Listen. I can tell Brian don’t play lol. Great episode.
Wow we celebrate the "Pauls" in our lives that mentor us in our walk with Jesus... Bless you Brian for being a willing vessel of God
Hiiii Brian ! We know of him ! !!!
And I just love y’all freedom with each other 🎉
✨This is Beautiful, I want to be Discipled 😊Who’s in ATL? Help please! I think I’m a female Peter 😩😅
SOO much wisdom in this episode. Definitely gonna have to rewatch a couple times. His analogy about ordering Uber eats and developing disciples was golden
I’m on Brian’s instagram and balling my eyes out.. this man really loves the Lord. I think hearing about how he’s impacted you two, hearing him speak, his presence.. he really is a man of God. Wow! How fortunate you two are!
This should have been a Joe Rogan size episode lol.. 3 hrs or something
The guest we were waiting for
I Love use so much I never thought about Discipleship until I started watching use. Ladies and Gentlemen never think about how old you are I am 53 and I learn so much from my young people. I pray that so many more people pick up Discipleship it’s important.
"Yall goin smoke weed" Jackie is hilarious 😂😂😂😂
Can’t wait to see y’all on Friday with my sisters!!!
Same here in Charlotte!?!
Crazy! I remember hearing Brian Dye's name YEAAARRSS ago in Thisl's song "Urban Missionary". Had to listen again just to confirm but it's great to finally put a face to the name. Amazing to see that the man that was mentioned many years ago as an urban missionary, is still discipling and making disciples.
Thankyou for this. It encourages me and me words to understand that I am doing what Jesus commanded, that discipleship happens as I go along and walk the everyday life with others,
Only a small part has structured teaching. It’s not about the number of “meetings” .
Aye Jackie!!!!! You ain’t playing with that make up in that promo video sis ❤
Preston always wanting change lol i like the 'saints and the aints' jingle Jackie has going :P
Anyone from Toronto going to their Detroit show on the 15th?!
So grateful for Brian, and his wife! They have a tremendous impact on the city of Chicago - and beyond.
"you'll always be my fav white boy" 😅
The pickle analogy is great 👏🏾👏🏾
I would love to see more of I guess how the Perry unit lives, weird request I was just like oh I would love to learn how to be a mom like Jackie was saying her mentor welcomed her into her home and family I mean I have definitely experienced that it would just be nice to learn from someone who also learned later on in life after Christ
I wanted to meet the Perrys but now I really want to meet the Legend Brian.
Matt 26:73 is so prevelant here! Preston’s speech is just like Brian’s. We really do sound like those we are around. Literally and figuratively. His cadence and even the “right”. Thank God for discipleship!!
😂 “you’ll always be my favorite white boy, peace” yooOo
I love the saints and the aintsss jingle. I sing it every time 😂 lol
Wow he is a beautiful depiction of Christ. Thanks for having him on the show 🙏🏽 reminds me of my Grandfather Pastor P🕊
Wow great episode. One of many parts that hit me was he said we look for disciples instead of making them. 🔥
God help me to be the change that I want to see in the church of Christ. I have desired to be discipled for a long time but have not been. Thank you Brian for pointing out that we have the counsel of the Holy Spirit. I pray that God helps me to listen and follow the Holy Spirit leading and teaching. And most importantly to obey.
Beautiful podcast discussion ❤❤❤
Would you say there is a difference between mentorship and discipleship? And do you believe there is a need for established roles within a church, or can this be done well by being a community of saints?
The Saints and Aints with the Perry’s👀
Listened twice. Back to back...so good.
This one !!!! Talking about God ordained relationships
I just love ya’ll ❤
Naw,,, this one could have been another few hours longer, and I woulda tuned in..
This episode brought more tears to my eyes than any other and I’ve heard quite a few of with the Perry’s
Loved it and glad y’all recorded this one
I always laugh at the "saints and the ain't "s" 😅😂
Oh my goodness he and Preston sound alike.
This was more inspiring than yall know. I now realize that I can invite people to do life with me and disciple them, it doesn’t have to look perfect or any sort of exact way. Thank you!!!
We need a part 2…..continuation….something
We want more please 🙏🏾
“Look at his nose!!” 😂
Well bless brian then! Bless you guys for honoring him
We like the 🥻🎼🎵🎶🎹saints and aints
Next, we need Gary on the show
How did you find your church home. What criteria was a must for you. I’m having a difficult time finding a church home after relocating back to NC
Will ther be any future plans for Legacy disciple conference in California?
Prayerfully next year.
Thank you for responding, will be praying with you 🙏🙏🙏
This was amazing, thanks for sharing.
I would love to hear Gary Brown tell his story on the podcast.
“We got somebody on our couch”😭😭
I first heard of discipleship 4 years ago.. Initially it felt like “confession” and it turned me off! But, since I have moved out of state 2 years ago , I miss having that especially taking on a leadership role in my local church. This definitely encouraged me to get back to praying for a discipleship leader.
How am I this early
The question at 32:44 made me think white men have lil to no fear. The times, crimes, etc make me afraid to talk to strangers. Rockingham Nc on Aug 4th a black man went to pray with his neighbor and was shot 5 times.
mmmhh this was a necessary reminder for me to go back to inviting others in my life and Shuuu Brian's patience oh my, it is like you can feel it radiating from him. And I feel like that's what we lack in the church will that's what I lack the patience to walk out the journey with someone I have invited in.
Because it is not EASY and you need a WHOLE LOT OF JESUS to shepherd/ disciple and sometimes that is the people we have "tried" to lead are now some two minutes noodles they know a bit of this and that and some are prone injury because they were not nurtured properly but hey its a lot of things that could go wrong when the motive of our hearts are not aligned to that of Christs.
Wow I actually had never heard of discipleship until I started listening to that Perrys. I'm praying and studying on my own, but also praying that someone like Brian can come my way because I'm really trying but need more support.
Love this conversation! Sometimes we are the only Bible a person will ever read.
