- In this clip from a Facebook live stream, Chick plays through his tribute to the late jazz pianist and composer, Bud Powell. Before playing, Chick talks about discovering the talent and influence of Bud at a young age through his dad’s 78 rpm vinyl records.
Speaking more about Bud, Chick said: “He certainly became a big teacher for me. I never personally met him, but I saw him live once, in 1965 just before he passed… He played a gig at Birdland and I heard his trio that night, and I’ll never forget it.”

R.I.P Chick Corea
I'm a proud Chick Corea addict, and have been since around 2018. I almost exclusively listen to him - and I can't explain it. The best explanation I have is that I'm hooked on the way he feels time in the music he plays. I love the straight 8th note feel that he's trademarked, and I love the way he intersperses his interpretations of traditional jazz music with Iberian sounds and rhythmic patterns. Of course, his impeccable use of time is accompanied by his wonderful technique, perfect harmonic sense, and melodic ideas that are completely unique to him, as if inspired by God. No one else does it like he does.
I'm not sure what compelled me to write this, but I feel this way every time I discover more recordings of him that I haven't heard before (which isn't very often at this point). All I can do is sit and listen in awe.
The thing about Chick is that he plays it differently, every. Single. Time. Most of even the best jazz musicians can't say that. All the while, you can always tell it's him playing, even if you weren't previously made aware.
Thank you Chick.
Can't believe it's been almost a year already. But for a timeless man with perfect timing, what is time, especially if you can keep time like this?

Totally agree. Love the playing but I'd also love to hear Chick talk.

@@noahmay7708he does not play like that regularly tho. Let’s be real this guy made his money and only now decided to pay his dues.
@@jxnglxst6874 Chick had been playing professionally since the early 1960's. You don't think that he "paid his dues" somewhere down the line?
