Kevin Phillips won the European golden boot in 99/00. This was for Sunderland, who finished 7th in the premier league and weren’t in Europe, with mostly a championship standard side. He out scored all of those in the video. That’s like Chris Wood winning it today.
I feel like Lewandowski was (and, when at full-fitness, still is) an example of a pure-striker in the generation just before the current one we have now. A guy with insane attacking instinct, always finding himself where needed, almost always immune to the offside trap due to his insane ability to read defender's intentions. A guy who finishes in 1-3 touches most of the time, no more, no less. Haaland is definitely efficient, but he just doesn't bring the same vibe in my opinion. There's still that modern number 9 aspect in him, as well as Kane. His absurd stats aside, BvB Lewy was a gem so few people got to see live or in-person. His 19/20 and 20/21 seasons were also so reminiscent of classic number 9s imo (although he did play a heavy role of a playmaker in those i suppose). Either way, this guy is probably gonna be one of the last pure 9's that we will see for a while. It's a shame he gets so little recognition, even the lack of mention in him in this video speaks volume of that fact.
Hes got 15 goals in 15 games and is Champions League (where he was the 3rd player ever to reach 100 goals last game he played) top scorer this season so far.... at 36 years old. Absolute Legend and in my opinion more than worthy to be in the top Striker all time conversation. Also got Robbed Balon Dor (maybe twice but dont wanna get into that lol).
In his latest interview with Rio, Lewy explained that the reason for his career longevity is due to being able to do the basics as a striker while being fairly decent in the other an ciliary stuff like hold up play and build-up in addition to his physical fitness
thats what makes me love lewa, he doesn't need to be quick, nor has to dribble through the entire team to score. He'd always put himself at the right place at the right time and just score goals for fun, geniunely I think out of all the number 9s that played between 2010-2020 lewandowski would always be my standout
@@homersimpson6585 Because Lewa is a center forward rather than a striker. Henry, Ronaldo, Suarez are strikers typically very mobile and agile players. CFs are more upright with decent speed and don't only have to run defenders with the ball.
Rivaldo is not underrated, everyone knows he‘s a legend and he won the Ballon D‘Or in 1999 as well as Europe‘s Footballer of the Year Award. Adriano on the other hand is underrated, he was a physical specimen, you couldn’t even tackle him.
I agree! unfortunately at that time (and it wasn't even that long ago, I would say until 2010-2014) no one talked about mental health and how to treat depression.
Davor Šuker was quite underrated. As a Croat I remember 2018 very well, but people often take the 1998 World Cup for granted. Šuker was that guy at the World Cup with 6 goals in 6 games. At Sevilla he was putting up world class numbers for years and was so good he got a pitch invasion at his last game before transferring. There’s plenty more but those the most memorable.
True, but younger Croats like myself still tend to take that achievement for granted. I don’t exactly agree with that take looking at the whole midfield three plus Perišić in the attack. Subašić had issues (like the final) but throughout the tournament he was great, and also was critical to that prime Monaco side. My stance on this kind of thing proves my point though doesn’t it.
There also was a very good stiker called Edmundo. That man rejected real madrid😂. Yall should really watch a documentary about him. A good one is on "daily dose of football"
Michael Owen got me, an American, to fall in love with the game. He’s the same age as I am, so it was exciting seeing him do so well in the 1998 World Cup at just 18. I’ve supported Liverpool ever since!
My all time favourite striker is Ronaldo Fenomeno. He was just "The Man". However, I love Fernando Torres from the late 2000s era. My guy used to tear apart the defense with strength and pace.
Would love seeing something like this about defenders of the mid to late 2000s as well because looking at some the roster, puyol, cafu, vidic, maldini, abidal ect, all beasts, anyways class content as always
Brolin and Larrson (Larrson the icon) I know a lot about Brolin it’s a shame he retired at 28, he literally retired because he thought he won enough and was fine with what he had
I know it's for the video but it's crazy how you actually have to tell some people (mostly younger kids/teens) just how good some players were. Even as a Barcelona fan, Ruud Van Nistelroy a certified legend/world class striker
Vincenzo Montella was absolutely dangerous in front of goal. I also loved watching Henrikh Larsson. Davor Suker, 1998 WC top scorer, took Croatia to the semis with his goals. Filipo Inzaghi was born in an offside position 😅 Don't forget Eric Cantina himself
Evolution of tactics. Today No.9s are largely a decoy occupying the centre-backs for inverted wingers and attacking midfielders to time their runs into the box to finish. In many direct comparisons between the generations, the strikers of today are better in many aspects of playing, but not as lethal finishing or sensing where to be in the box and when. Crespo is probably the best example of a pure striker with that 6th sense of where to be.
I honestly think strikers are fading out simply because of modern defensive systems and many of these past greats would have a hard time putting up similar numbers.
Ivan Zamarano,Denis Bergkamp, Jürgen Klinsman,Oliver Bierhoff, Claudio Lopez, Fernando Morientes, Faustino Asprilla,Stephan Chapuisat, some forgotten strikers
Roy was a great pick for this video, very underrated and almost forgotten guy who was getting serious numbers and across the top leagues. Another was Kevin Phillips LOL even James Beatie at Southampton, knocking out crazy numbers in a good league at "bad" clubs. Another was Yakubu, what a beast he was. They werent even elite, maybe Phillips was that guy was clinical.
While it does feel as though strikers nowadays are sort of a dying breed, I think it's safe to say that the striker market is certainly healing... slowly but surely with a lot of the young guys coming through (Marmoush my beloved leading the charge...). Nonetheless, 2000s strikers - and 2010s strikers - were on some scary stuff. I swear. These guys were so so scary man. It's crazy to think some of these guys were absolute monsters for teams that didn't have a lot of quality personnel. What an era of football it was. I think what makes the striker position sort of "fading" away or less "great"/"world class" strikers is generally just due to an emphasis on tactics nowadays, as well as needing to take on multiple roles, etc. Football is in a transition period for strikers, and like I said, I think the time will come when strikers make a resurgence and go crazy just like the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s.
for me its Van nistelroy , he was the complete striker , his height , his flexibility , his speed , his precision . even halaand look dwarfed by him . lets just dont forget that Ruud played in a 442 dominated era and had to share the striker role
Strikers in the brasileirão were absolutely cracked at that time also, there were players who never got a proper chance to play for the national team that would be legends today, too bad they were competing for position with just the two best in the position of all time, Romário and Ronaldo and they had a partner in Bebeto, a selfless genious, that elevated anyone who he played with. I remember portuguese fans pulling their hairs out because Jardel wasn't even considered The likes of França, Renato Gaúcho, Edílson, Túlio, Luizão, Alex Dias, Dodô would be all world class today
Even though I have a lost of nostalgia of this era, footballers today are asked to do more. The players playing up front having less defensive responsibility, such as Lewa, Haaland, and prime Crron + Messi, all ahve absurd numbers.
Van Nistelrooy was a powerhouse. Truly one of the greatest strikers of all time. The Dutch seem to have traded their attacking prowess for defence the past few years. Shame.
Every time I think about this and look at highlights from the past like even early 2000’s I notice that keepers are just fucking cracked now like these guys are different now so maybe that’s why we have this bias of strikers being “worse” now. Also most formations now have 3 at the front where are 1 or 2 at the front formations were way more common.
It’s not even nostalgia, I feel like there were a lot more lethal #9s in the 90s and 2000s. But now the most lethal attackers are LW and RW. Look how many great ones we’ve had in the game in the last 10 years. Let’s look at guys who’ve scored 20+ goals in a season: Salah, Mane, Sterling, Son, Mbappe, Vini, Leao, Rashford, Palmer, Kvaratskhelia, Foden, Bale and of course the 2 greatest players of all time: Messi and Cristiano. So there’s still hella guys with individual quality and insane numbers, it’s not the 9s anymore, at least for now.
This era was perfect before XG and players weren’t afraid to just bang it from 30/40 yards. Also strikers just had aura, grit, personality and presence.
Defence in the past were depended on the quality of the defenders hence to beat them you needed strikers of real quality. Now defence is more depended on system and strikers need to fit the attacking system
Does anyone else miss when players jogged out of the tunnel before the kickoff instead of walking out with mascots, handshakes and wearing jackets they clearly don't need?
YEAHHH I WAS LEGIT JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS THESE FEW DAYS LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO JIB RULESSSS THIS IS A GENERATIONAL RUN THIS SOME RONALDO V MESSI V FUCKING JIBBBBB SHITTTTT WE ONNNNNNN
Thanks so much for 40K Subscribers
❤️ lets keep moving forward
I'm not even capping there is something that every 2000s striker had that standout ability that this generation lacks
I think its having the balls to shoot first time
They have the ability but coaches are forcing them not to use it
Skill
Except halland, he’s a monster
@aj9173 that guy is a shit footballer can't control a ball
Kevin Phillips won the European golden boot in 99/00. This was for Sunderland, who finished 7th in the premier league and weren’t in Europe, with mostly a championship standard side. He out scored all of those in the video. That’s like Chris Wood winning it today.
yeah but Chris wood is literally the modern messi
KP was a lot better than Chris Wood, mate. Behave.
legend has it that r9 skipped school to watch nketiah play
I feel like Lewandowski was (and, when at full-fitness, still is) an example of a pure-striker in the generation just before the current one we have now. Honestly Adriano what a monster. If only he was able to get the help he needed when his father passed because what a player
He had everything CR7 worked for.
Prime Adriano and Rivaldo were really underrated
Rivaldo is not underrated, everyone knows he‘s a legend and he won the Ballon D‘Or in 1999 as well as Europe‘s Footballer of the Year Award. Adriano on the other hand is underrated, he was a physical specimen, you couldn’t even tackle him.
He was basically a stronger faster Zlatan
I agree! unfortunately at that time (and it wasn't even that long ago, I would say until 2010-2014) no one talked about mental health and how to treat depression.

Most people still believe 1998 team would beat 2018 on paper. The gap between Suker and Mandzukic was far greater than Modric and Boban.
True, but younger Croats like myself still tend to take that achievement for granted. I don’t exactly agree with that take looking at the whole midfield three plus Perišić in the attack. True
With how little he's mentioned it seems like some he was a one season wonder like prosinecki but no
van hooidonk, Henrik Larsson, Pauleta, Diego Tristan, Jardel, Andy Cole, and many more
Jardel shout🔥🔥
You know Ball.
Jardelllll
Dwight Yorke. Shevchenko.Jermaine Dafoe.
Serie A probably had some of world class strikers in late 90s/2000s, at least in all of each 20 teams.
Batistuta was my favorite
Torres- The headband. Long sleeves. Total 90s. The game was over before it started.n
Idea to help with the 2010s video: Michu. He was insane
crazy how roy mackay took the pichichi in a la liga having r9, ronaldinho, kluivert, zidane and figo all in the same league
Figo and zidane where never competitors for topscorer position bro
There also was a very good stiker called Edmundo. That man rejected real madrid😂. Yall should really watch a documentary about him. A good one is on "daily dose of football"
just watched that documentary a few hours ago.man that guys career is pure shithousery💀😭
@SamuraiGintoki4 like fr bro was created to make people mad 😭
Edmundo be like: screw u all😂
Great vids bro
Even early 2010s Falcao Suarez , Lewandowski, Zlatan were incredible
I fell in love with with Hasselbaink, Morientes, Zamorano, Salas, Adriano, Stoichkov just to name a few
Mid/late 2000's you had beasts like Ibrahimovic (10's as well) Samuel Eto'o, Drogba...
this video could not be complete without batistuta, an underrated legend
Michael Owen got me, an American, to fall in love with the game. He’s the same age as I am, so it was exciting seeing him do so well in the 1998 World Cup at just 18. I’ve supported Liverpool ever since!
Strikers in 90-00s: I ain’t tracking back, I only score goals
Miroslav Klose ...... The Beast
opened youtube at the perfect time
My all time favourite striker is Ronaldo Fenomeno. He was just "The Man". However, I love Fernando Torres from the late 2000s era. My guy used to tear apart the defense with strength and pace.

Forlán was amazing bro I remember his World Cup run, miss players like that
9:00 What's The GOAT Nketiha doing there
Martin Palermo. Jared Borghetti. Zambrano. Shevchenko. Salas. So many!
90's were peak. Weah, Del Piero, Shearer, R9, Batistuta
2000’s-world class😮
2020’s-tap in merchant😡🤢
Brolin and Larrson (Larrson the icon) I know a lot about Brolin it’s a shame he retired at 28, he literally retired because he thought he won enough and was fine with what he had
I think Adriano deserved a mention here, he shined brevealy but what a player he was during 04 And 05 he dominated seria A
Dam JIB Rules actaully posting constantly has christmas come early💀

The tactical trend is actually gravitating towards pure strikers again thanks to players like haaland and gyokeres.
This dude made me genuinely fall in love with football again.

2000s perfect football era
Haven’t seen the video yet but liked cause it’s a jib video

Any one of these legendary mfs would've bagged in 30+ goals today 💀
Brother what😂😂😂😂
What do you know about Jordan Rhodes (best lower league striker ever)
Makaay was my favorite striker as a kid. He was an absolute beast at La Coruna and then later with Bayern too.
Literally no so called strikers of this day can do this thing 3:19
Great video! Do these videos get demonitizes because of all the footage you use?
While it does feel as though strikers nowadays are sort of a dying breed, I think it's safe to say that the striker market is certainly healing... slowly but surely with a lot of the young guys coming through (Marmoush my beloved leading the charge...). Can't concentrate on what this man is saying we he got the Persona OST in the background.
9:08 Nketiah 😂😂💀
1:19 I only know bro from PES 😭🙏

jib its all over the screen🥰
Mood because it's December 🔥
This Jib guy rules
40k! Congrats jib!
Falcao in atletico will forever be one of the most underrated strikers of all time
Strikers in the brasileirão were absolutely cracked at that time also, there were players who never got a proper chance to play for the national team that would be legends today, too bad they were competing for position with just the two best in the position of all time, Romário and Ronaldo and they had a partner in Bebeto, a selfless genious, that elevated anyone who he played with.

U forgot to mention Owen
it just feels different but i dont know how or why
Fernando Torres, my favorite striker ever
Small correction there. Batistuta won back to back Copa Americas in 91 and 93. He scored 2 in the 93 final.
Drogba. Definition of a big game player
W JIB AS ALLWAYS
Van Nistelrooy was a powerhouse. Truly one of the greatest strikers of all time. The Dutch seem to have traded their attacking prowess for defence the past few years. Shame.
Why didn't you mention the legendary Thierry Henry?
I did.
Diego forlan is so underrated man was a beast for Atletico Madrid and Uraguay
Samuel Eto the only man to win back to back champions leagues with two different teams balling out for Barca and inter Milan
Every time I think about this and look at highlights from the past like even early 2000’s I notice that keepers are just fucking cracked now like these guys are different now so maybe that’s why we have this bias of strikers being “worse” now. Naw crazy a Depor player never thought you would even talk about my home club 😂 you should make a video about them one day great story
This era was perfect before XG and players weren’t afraid to just bang it from 30/40 yards. Also strikers just had aura, grit, personality and presence.
Elber was so underrated, overshadowed by R9 tho
You should make a video on how people are ignoring how good Jamie Binoe-Gittens is playing
I spoke about him in my last wingers video, updated version coming soon
Man like RVP🔥 Drogba🦍 Huntelaar😖 Prime Torres! 🥶 Falcao🦅 David villa🤯🤯 Man! So many world class strikers
Feb for the cool kids , mine is 25th of Feb but these are my favourite strikers - Inzaghi, Eto ,klose ,del Piero , Oliver Bierhoff , Romario , Rivaldo
Back with amazing Football🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I think that Liam Delap definitely has the potential to become that type of striker. He has a very similar build and style of play to Viktor Gyokeres.
Claudio Pizarro, Ailton. Miroslav Klose
blud tried to sneak in nketiah like we wouldnt notice
crazy how bro only has 40k should have more
Defence in the past were depended on the quality of the defenders hence to beat them you needed strikers of real quality.
Now defence is more depended on system and strikers need to fit the attacking system
Does anyone else miss when players jogged out of the tunnel before the kickoff instead of walking out with mascots, handshakes and wearing jackets they clearly don't need?
forever waiting on a full zlatan vid jib
what's the background music?
YEAHHH I WAS LEGIT JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS THESE FEW DAYS LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO JIB RULESSSS THIS IS A GENERATIONAL RUN THIS SOME RONALDO V MESSI V FUCKING JIBBBBB SHITTTTT WE ONNNNNNN
Gabriel Jesus would be a Bolton striker in the 2000s.
All of the best strikers right now are playing in the second division or lower
If some of these guys played today football fans would talk about them the way they talk about haaland
Ngl Dutch strikers were built different like RVP, RVN, Bergkemp, Mackay, MVB, Klas Huntalaar.
i’m gonna be honest my dad always said that inzaghi was a baller but i didn’t believe him but now i do
I gotta say, victor gyokeres reminds me of some of these strikers
He was the ultimate predator...(realization)...of the penalty box
Back then every other team atleast had a world class strike compared to nowadays.
2000s strikers: Drogba, Ba, Torres, Etó, Falcao,
Haven't heard anyone mension Makaay in years. I also think Bergkamp would've suited modern day football much more. He really wasn't a pure 9.
Batistuta, Crespo, Sorin & Ayala cut off their lucious locks so Argentina can win the Copa and World Cup again,
Imagine if Vardy played in this era
