Wow people are soo sensitive now a days. I knew exactly what you meant when you described Ghana as a developed village compared to that area of Nigeria. Of course it’s not an actual village but it still has that closeness and community feel
I'm British/Jamaican background but was born and raised in Toronto Canada like Rochelle. A lot of the time I say "it takes a village to raise a child" I believe that it takes more than just parents to help raise a child. Guidance, and support from grandparents, aunts uncles, even Godparents. *VILLAGE = "community of people smaller than a town"* I dont see how anyone's taking offense to the word when it actually means a rightly nit community that's more like family.
Hey Rochelle, the word "Village and Villager " is a negative term in most cases in African culture. Myself as a Jamaican/Canadian knows this. I understood what you meant, but even I cringed when you said it. You just need to gain some cultural competence. Some would say Negro is not derogatory, however we as Black people know otherwise.
I'm African and no it's not negative, please stick to defending your own culture that you know about and are familiar with. I can't stand when other cultures talk about what is offensive in another culture for another people so confidently and generally. Always somebody getting offended and trying to "correct" someone on somebody else's behalf. As you can see the two African's she spoke to in this video also didn't really care cause it's not offensive unless you are just looking to be offended.
In Twi (I can't speak for the other Ghanaian languages), the word village or villager *depending on its context* has a somewhat of a negative connotation to it. It just is what it is... So I think the disconnect here has more to do with language and culture than anything. IMO, if you choose to expatriate to or visit another country, you should have some reverence for the culture and not impose your own ideals. So, instead of dismissing the comments on your previous video, you should seek to understand rather than to be on defense. I think it's also important to consider how big Nigeria and Ghana are when comparing the two. All love, just want to help you understand why people were offended by that comment. And Happy Birthday to Naomi!
Respectfully-no one should have to tell Rochelle this stuff-she also claims Jamaican ancestry-she knows the ramifications of making certain comments/statements that folks can take it the wrong way or become sensitive especially when comparing cultures/countries💯It just comes with the territory but hopefully you will think twice before making certain comments and also respect the opinion of others (it may not have hurt you but clearly it hurt others)-have some compassion/understanding, eh/aye?🤔
@naturalempress8564 you make no sense. She never said it in a negative way so it shouldn't be taken negatively. If say I like GREEN apples and they make you sick. Should I have to think twice because of how they make YOU feel? Should I think twice and include RED apples so they don't feel left out? The analogy I'm giving sounds bizzar right? Just as foolish as your comment. People need to grow up and like Rochelle said look at the context of what she was saying and stop taking things so personal 🙄
There's a famous saying "it takes a village to raise a child" which essentially means it takes a whole community to raise a child. This is because village means community.
I agree with what Rochelle says, it’s not a big deal. As a born and bred Guyanese who was naturalized as a US citizen and have traveled to many African countries and lived in Nigeria for a year its not ok for people make generalizations about the US, but it happens all the time and many people judge you because you are considered yankee and all other notions they have not even experienced . It goes both ways and all about maturity in understanding where people are coming from. If anything I’ve meet more resistance from West and East Africans who totally disregard that I am Guyanese.
These times people will belly ache about all sorts. Once you have good intentions behind what you said, best to just leave it at that. 🥰 Happy Birthday Naomi. *ENJOY* 🥰🎂
Oh Rochelle, I think i understand why Ghanaians may be upset about the village thing. it can be understood like they still living in huts with no electricity, no cars, civilisation etc you know that narative that is still being thrown around about Africa. Its pronounced as 'Lay-gos' not 'Lay-Goes' The island has trees everywhere, like, every street has loads of trees im not sure where you only saw concrete lol granted its a more quiet affluent area where people arent just walking in the streets. but if you went to the other side of lagos where theres hustle n bustle you will see kids, people speaking mostly yoruba language, beggers on street, hawkers, stores etc Happy birthday Naomi x
Wow I’m not even through watching this video…. I had to stop because why did Jordan’s debut make me literally tear up. Look at him thriving in his new environment 🫶🏿🥹. Crazy how we watched him grow up.
Come on, i think Rochelle chose to stay in Ghana for a reason. If she didnt love it there i dont think she would be there. I do agree maybe she couldve chosen a different choice of words to describe it since people are offended easily, but i think she just meant more of community-like atmosphere/ closeness as well as there being more greenery. I think its obvious that she only compared the two places because she was recently visiting nigeria and she is broadcasting her experience and her point of view to give the viewers an idea for those who've never visited. Both places look beautiful and both places seem to have something special which makes it unique. Anyway lol Happy Birthday Naomi✨🎉
I’m so impressed with this vegan festival! I’m vegan and to know that Ghana supports type of dietary choice is very progressive! Happy Birthday 🎈 Naomi! Peace and love 💕 from New Jersey, USA!
Ringworm generally is circular and has a raised ring. What he has is Lota (Tinea versicolor) I used to get it alot as a kid as well. In my country doctors would make an ointment mostly from Sulphur and that would have worked. It stinks but gets the job done.
Tinea versicolor isn’t a bacteria, it’s a fungus. (Yes there’s a difference.) Bop bop just needs antifungal soap and/or cream on his skin. It’s treatable.
I used to have tinea versicolor when I was younger. I was told to use Head and Shoulders shampoo or products with selenium sulfide in them. Eventually it went away.

Certainly. Eg in Ghana,if you really want to insult someone, you call them a villager. Same with Nigeria, I believe from their movies ive seen. It hits hard. I think what didn't help is calling ghana a village in comparison with Nigeria.. if you know anything about the relationship between these 2 countries, you'd understand the reaction. I like that you have said you have learned from this. So many commenters, ignoring the cultural difference and having a go at Ghanaians who feel offended. They just need to learn and not expect Africans to drop their cultural ways at tye drop of a hat and see things from the foreigners perspective. I get it, village is deemed superior in some parts of the world.. what you do though when in a new country is try and understand them, then try and show them the light. The approach being used by some RUclipsrs doesn't work.
I totally understood Rochelle's sentiments. Guess these are the nuances of culture, where a word can mean one thing to someone & something totally different to another person.
Ok let me chip in, village is not a derogatory term but it has a negative connotation when it is being compared to something. Nothing negative about the word village connotation wise or other, even in comparison. I can compare a village to the inner city and still there is absolutely nothing negative. Only difference and preference.

6:02 Ghana is definitely a village in a certain sense 😄 Some ghanaians don't seem to understand that, they only know ghana (they don't understand the beauty and infrastructure design the country is missing even compared to some other african countries). A very distorted self perception (a good amount of other africans have this distorted self image as well). There are many things we need to improve and renovate, the only issue of course is money (but some specific things can be improved aesthetically without spending too much). But that was definitely not the way to say it. Calling a whole country a village 😄

Jordan! "Keep quiet my friend!" That's a Ghanaian boy right there! Children are amazing with the way they adapt to anything. Happy belated birthday to the beautiful Naomi. I was watching your vlogs almost a decade ago. God has brought you far and the blessings will continue.
I doubt, Rochelle will move to Nigeria. She’s better in Ghana. Nigeria is fun, and has a lot to do but if you want a safer, quieter, and stable place, stay in Ghana.
Hahaha, don't forget that Ghana and Nigeria have some sort of rivalry. It's not a serious thing, but it comes up every now and then. You will be surprised to know that sometimes, it takes simple things like jollof to spark this rivalry 😂😂😂😂
Hi Rochelle, the condition on the body of your handsome prince could be Tinea Versiculor likely due to fungal condition. You don't need to worry much, if it's fungal condition a topical or anti fungal creams, should get rid of it.
It takes a "village" to raise a child A community of people looking out for each other, kids ,small net village. I get it.. However the word village MAY offend some Ghanaians or Nigerians depending on how they use the term village. But..every body has an opinion rather it be negative or positive Happy Birthday Naomi 🎉
Happy Birthday Naomi 🎂🎉🎉!! Wishing your beautiful daughter Rochelle many more years and blessings to come ❤❤! Happy Sunday to you Rochelle and your family 🥰💞!!
I know what you meant by village however making reference to a ‘village’ isn’t a complement...in our culture it’s like saying someone is ‘bush’😂…hard to explain but if you get it you get it.
Jordan is hilarious “keep quiet my friend” 😂😂😂 dont talk to mommy like that ooo 😉 Happy Birthday Naomi 🎀 May God bless you with many many more breathtakingly beautiful years IJN Amen!
In New York City, we call the neighborhood of Harlem a village because everyone looks out for each other and the children. Sadly, with gentrification, that is changing.
If is funny that the word village in the UK has a mostly positive connotation for people. I personally understood what Rochelle meant and did not put me off ever visiting Ghana, actually the complete opposite.
She is 100% right. Lagos Island is a city, it's like downtown Toronto vs. Shelburne. Ghana is more rural and community based, Lagos Island is more business oriented, the commimunities are more gated etc. Everyone drives, and is more closed off, so yes you are 100% right. Ghana is more like what we would describe village and Lagos island is more of a metropolitan vibe.
@@yo-a The reality is Ghana is a little tiny country, compared to Nigeria. There is more money in Lagos alone, than the entire Ghana. The electricity that power the entire Ghana, can not even power Lagos. The GDP of Lagos is bigger than that of the countries of Ghana, Togo, Benin, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Equatoria Guinea, and Guinea combined. So, dear Ghanaians, there is no competition here.
Omg I love your vlogs so authentic. Jordan got moves!!! Beautiful family❤ I can’t wait to visit Ghana it’s been on my bucket list for a while now.. soon! Happy birthday Naomi🎉🎉
Lmao I love the sibling rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria 😂. Happy Birthday Naomi. She is growing into such a beautiful young girl ❤🎉 ETA: omg Jordann! His dance performance got me so hyped!!
In truth, we as Nigerians don't have a rivalry with Ghana. You can see how a small thing like saying Accra looks like a "developed village" and Lagos looks a lot like Canada, with a lot of skyscrapers like a "concrete jungle" can trigger so many. Nigerians are really just playing along for kicks.
Rochelle you are over explaining. You even said on this video ‘I’m comparing Accra to the islands… the islands are a lot more ADVANCED than anywhere else in Nigeria’. Nothing about that talks about ‘community’ that you are now stating. You are from Jamaica, I’m sure you know there is a big difference between how people consider village life and a city life. When you explained it to the Nigerian man you even said, what I meant to say was XYZ. Great, but that’s not what you actually said, so people were offended by what you actually said which was ‘Ghana is like a developed village’, which can cause offence in the country you currently live in. Also, perhaps asking a Ghanaian person for context and then you’ll understand why you received such comments. As someone said below, instead of just dismissing it, understand the country you have expatriated to.
This is not actually true (though the point can be taken to move past this silly issue): the islands are not "a lot more advanced" (whatever that may mean) than Abuja, nor even particular areas of greater Port Harcourt (e.g., GRA, Trans Amadi or CFC junction, secretariat area, NLNG Residential Area). Having visited Accra, I'd say the most appropriate comparison in Nigeria is the city of Uyo - green (more so than Accra even), developed, nice scapes, not many highways or highrise buildings, with a small community vibe. The bottom line is Accra (small town feel) is not Lagos (global city feel) and vice versa, that's simply the point she was making.
6:22 I was just thinking the same thing. How nice the people are and friendly. That try use village vibes for real ,where everyone treats each other like family.
I wish you were still in Ghana to get some young ackee to rub on the ringworm. Growing up in Jamaica thats what the older folks used on us as kids. Also, some adults would use a sulfur-based ointment for ringworm too.
Happy Belated Birthday to Naomi 🎉🎉🎉She is such a beautiful young lady!!!! BOP BOP & Jordan are so handsome continue to have fun with your beautiful family Rochelle ❤
Happy Birthday Beautiful Naomi ❤ I think the village thing may be more about classism.. Africans are big on stature and money. Village is sometime associated with having less and/or having old fashion ways. Of course, Westerners are moving in the direction of less is more but with Africans more is more.😫😂♥️
Girl, that was nothing wrong with your village comment. I was thinking both was positive just in different ways. I would rather live in a village bc it is more family oriented. I live in the states. I now live in Dallas, Texas (a big city)but, I'm from a town in Louisiana . (The country is what they call it.)We have one high, middle and elementary school. We recently got a Walmart. It's cool, chill, family vibes. But there is positive in both. I just rather the small town country vibes.
It’s the comparison. I notice it’s not a good idea to compare Nigeria to Ghana and vice versa about anything. It’s been ongoing dispute between both countries. Just don’t do it to be safe.
I agree with you Roti ! Village to me is similar to community family everyone know everyone type of vibe, it’s a very beautiful thing.. I do see the other side of it too but 🤷🏾♀️
They have all those things you mentioned about Ghana on the whole continent. You were just in the rich/developed small part of just Lagos not the whole country.
i will love you to visit Abuja so, you will understand that their life styles is totally different. Accra can't withstand Abuja at all. You might not love Lagos again if you travel to Abuja. Well to Nigeria.
I am grateful to be able to say “village” and villagers without anyone getting upset.. When I lived in America I lived in a village, it’s a better way of living . It’s a compliment I did not find Rochelle dismissive or disrespectful at all. How many things do we have to be careful about..🤨 I needed to update, I tried to find your friends Vegan business I tried several times to find the name but I was I was not successful
Happy birthday, Naomi🎂! You’re such a beautiful and intelligent young lady.
if nigeria is country to make money and business why are negerians in Ghana

OMG, baby boy is soo cute..Rochelle gave birth to her double...Bless him💙
Happy Birthday Naomi 🎂🎉🎉!!
It sounds like a form of eczema, my son has the same thing. You’re doing good, by treating it before it gets out of hand.
@18:25, the word is confident.
You’re comparing a city to a whole country…
@@yo-a she said LAGOS ISLANDDDDD and ACCRAAAA!!!!
YOU SAID LAGOS AND GHANA DINGBAT@@nicolebusari5493
@@yo-ayou don't know that Lagos economy is bigger than the whole of Ghana right ???
Naomi is so beautiful. Happy birthday! Jordan did a great job.
Villages is where good organic stress free life happened .I love everything about Ghana .I am from Jamaica living in Toronto
That’s child is spitting image of is mom. 🎉
Happy birthday Naomi, hope you enjoy your day! Best wishes. God bless❤
Lmao I love the sibling rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria 😂.
Happy Birthday Naomi. She is growing into such a beautiful young girl ❤🎉
ETA: omg Jordann!
Simple💯
No sweetie. You said "developed village." Why try to change your statement?
Not tryna change it. Maybe even “modernized”. Jus added some context to it 😃
Happy Birthday !! 🎉🎉🎉 I don’t be wanting ur vlogs to end ,I don’t be finished with my food .
Happy birthday Naomi! You’re growing sooo beautifully! 😍✨🫶🏿
Naomi looks gorgeous!!!!
Happy Belated Birthday to Naomi 🎉🎉🎉She is such a beautiful young lady!!!! BOP BOP & Jordan are so handsome continue to have fun with your beautiful family Rochelle ❤
🎉🎉Happy Birthday Naomi. 🎂 Best wishes for you as you grow.
Yeah very true, Nigeria is more advanced businesses good people and is a place to live, Nigeria will be good for you.
Happy Birthday Beautiful Naomi. Glad to see you enjoyed your Birthday with Family and Friends 🥳🎂❤️
Jordan living his best African life! Love to see it!😊 Happy Birthday Naomi🎉
Fuol is Fava beans. It's soo good 😋
Happy Birthday Beautiful Naomi ❤ I think the village thing may be more about classism.. Africans are big on stature and money. Village is sometime associated with having less and/or having old fashion ways. Of course, Westerners are moving in the direction of less is more but with Africans more is more.😫😂♥️

Wow can't believe she is 14. Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁
i was so hype when Jordan was dancing !! go Internet nephew!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤣🤣
I just rather the small town country vibes.
exactly
Rochelle get a blue cube, the one that caribbean people put on white laundry and bath him in it daily.
Omg. I remember that!!!
Yes please try it bop bop will be a brand new baby boy. Also good for eczema.
Happy Birthday Naomi! 🎁🥳❤️🙏🏿
It’s the comparison. I notice it’s not a good idea to compare Nigeria to Ghana and vice versa about anything. It’s been ongoing dispute between both countries. Just don’t do it to be safe.
Common, do you mean Lagos and Ghana because it is an insult on Nigeria to compare her with village Ghana?
Ghanaians like to lie to coverup for their country. Why do you Ghanaians say that Ghana looks like Dubai? Why all these lie about Ghana? Why?
Happy Birthday beautiful Naomi🎉🎈 Jordan has the moves 👏🏾
I agree with you Roti ! Village to me is similar to community family everyone know everyone type of vibe, it’s a very beautiful thing.. I do see the other side of it too but 🤷🏾♀️
They have all those things you mentioned about Ghana on the whole continent. You were just in the rich/developed small part of just Lagos not the whole country.
Omgg I haven’t watched u in 7 years holy she’s so big nowwwww😢
Happy belated birthday, Naomi!!!
Happy Birthday Naomi 🎉
Thank you!!
@@RochelleOfficially you are so welcome RoRo🤗
lil man is getting so big and sweet!! Blessings on your earth strong young lady!!
i will love you to visit Abuja so, you will understand that their life styles is totally different. Accra can't withstand Abuja at all. You might not love Lagos again if you travel to Abuja. Well to Nigeria.
Awwww look at Jordan 🥹he did a great job! Happy Birthday Naomi
Omg Jordan you’re so talented and brave but doing the worm took me out 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Happy Birthday Naomi!!!!!!!!!!! 🎉🎊🎈🎉🎊🎉🎈🎊🎉🎊🎈🎉🎊
Rochelle, that’s Naomi’s baby 😂. Happy Birthday Naomi 🎉!
