Hi Carl As a fellow GN15 Smallbrook studio fan, your work is fantastic and really captures Emmett's cartoons as if they have been brought to life. I too recognize the "invention" from a cartoon. I look forward to seeing it finished. Beautiful work - thanks for letting us see your work.
Hi Mark, thank you for your kind comments. I've made many layouts over the years and was going a bit stale then I found Smallbrooke Studios and all the fun came back into modelling for me. I would of loved to of met Roland or at lease gone to see his exhibition in Birmingham. I live in Leicestershire and my wife and I occasionally went to Nottingham and while she was shopping I used to sit and look at the wonderful water clock he made, every time you'd see something new. All the best.
Hi Carl That's exactly what happened to me. It started with Michael's Nellie kit and then I was hooked or should I say addicted. My problem is that I keep building kits, doing conversions etc. So far I have 20 Emett inspired locos, a range of goods wagons and coaches but no where to run them. They used to be displayed on the GN15 website "Gnatterbox". I really must start building a layout. I built a diorama called "Chipping Clinker Engine Shed" back in 2009. Modelling Emett is simply brilliant fun..........I have some Cloud Cuckoo coaches on order. I think you'll be adding some more boards...............very soon and I look forward to seeing them. It's a wonderful form of art and RUclips pointed me your way - and Bob Downes as well. Your models are simply outstanding. I used to work at Battersea in the late 1980's and remember travelling on what was left of Emett's real railway back in the late 1960's as a child.
@@markgoodwin2835 Mark I've found Chipping Clinker Engine shed on Google its absolutely brilliant i love the colours well i love all of it , your work is sooooooo good, 20 engines thats greedy haha , Surely they need a layout or at least show them on your channel , I have heard of Gnatterbox does it still exist ? a friend showed me a layout that was on there years ago think it was called Strawberry Mountain something it seamed a great source of inspiration but i never followed it up, anyway come on Mark show the RUclips world your amazing work , i for one would love to see more , Happy modelling Carl
Thank you for your kind words Huxley and I look forward (hopefully) to see your work in the not too distant future. I was considering using OO9 but the ready made models of Smallbrookes swaded me. I take it you will be scratch building everything, fare play fella, fare play. Is that a cycling shirt I spy? I've been a keen TT'er for many years. All the best.
@@carlroberts2539 I am a refugee from 00 scale and needed a new challenge. Wanted to scratch build everything as much as possible with DCC. 3 things influenced me in my choice: your now departed 2 tier Emett layout, Smallbrookes Gn15 range and Emett’s Milk Train book. I love the idea that the only constraint is imagination and that there are no prototypes that it can be compared with. My first loco is Nellie, a heavily modified 009 shapeways item on a Kato 109. Currently working on creating my stock very much in the Emett style. My layout plan ideas are taken from your 2 tier layout with some modifications. Hopefully finished later this year. Problem I have is that the people figures bring so much to the layout in Gn15, Scratch building similar people in 00 (009) is just not the same. Yes, you are rcorrect, I have too many bikes, I love hand crafted steel frames and have enjoyed fret working stainless lugs in the past. More of a steady distance rider (LEJOG) than TT unfortunately.
The totally brilliant Mr Bob Downes & Tippy was where it all started for me, i had the Rowland Emett punch books but had never heard of Smallbrook studios until TA, I didn't want to try and do something like Bobs so had a go at copying cartoon pages, I get some stick for this type of modelling but hay keeps me out the pub 😀
haha that's awesome and whimsical. looks like a stop motion cartoon
Looks superb Carl.
Thanks Paul, its very different to what i normally do, put a lot of fun
Brilliant! I love it!

Incredible job Carl, you are inspiring me in my efforts to create my own Emett inspired 009 layout. Keep the updates coming please.

Excuse my ignorance, how do you get the train to continue in the opposite direction on the same section of track?
Hi Jack, I used a reverse loop infrared device from Clive at Heathcote electronics , very easy to install
a-ha, thankyou@@carlroberts2539
I was going to ask, but figured there was probably no way you were not familiar with Tippy Ashwood. Admiral Dicky Bird would be proud...
