  • The Albanese government’s third federal budget was met “resoundingly with disappointment”, says Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume.
“Not just from the Coalition obviously, but from economists and from commentators right around the world,” Ms Hume told Sky News Australia.
“Indeed, I’ve never seen such a poor response to a budget as we saw on Wednesday morning’s newspapers after Tuesday night.
“You can understand why - it simply didn’t speak to the important issues to ordinary Australians who are really doing it tough.”

Missing in the Budget and Budget in Reply from both major sides was:-
    - Purpose of Superannuation Review
    - Agedcare Review
    - Intergenerational Report reminders
Until all of Australia stops digesting those big issues in soundbites, we have an issue of ignorance and back to "gimme gimme".
USA have National Addresses by their President.
I think we need a pre budget address by the Prime Minister built into Budget night Budget readings by Treasurer. Not unlike how the King gives a speech at Opening of Parliament with broad brush issues that the UK is dealing with and the hands over the "how" to the Parliament. But atleast the general public get a reminder that whether its population, war, housing, unemployment, pandemics, trade etc, someone is dping a helicopter view verbalised in a way average people can process and gauge effects. Then they can judge Government and Parliament on that response. Right now we appear to have a 1990s laize faire setting with a 2008 GFC world and its just making people angry and afraid unable to plan. When GFC hit we said at that time "Next" and people went along with it. Where's those messages this time?

Well done Labor, giving Australia a responsible budget.
No one is taking advice from politicians who gave Australia 9 years of Liberal Party economic incompetence and mismanagement.

Yeah but greed will vote for Liberal Party every time knowing full well ALP were always going to be swamped with the post covid inflation hangover and the Liberal Party Stage 3 tax plan. People forget it's still only mid 2024...ALP have only been in for 2 years so far. Swamped with immigration visas leftover from Morrison Govt leaving it uncapped "Australia is open for business" with its new China & India Free Trade Agreements with uncapped "movement of people" annexes included. That is outside our official Budget probections or caps. It seems they are forced to stoke bodies here to lure offshore investors to build housing stock. If that is what's happening, we should put our domestic economy, super and budget to work and we can cut back aged pension, job seeker etc once people are placed in housing at 30% of whatever that payment ends up being. 30% of a lower payment is better than homelessness or locked out of housing market completely at a slightly higher payment. We could retain energy credits and Medicare bulk billing for those people. Others who are living beyond means for some time will need to dip into superannuation or sell a car. Those conversations haven't begun yet. But it's gonna get much worse than this so head out of sand time planning needs to occur now. Govt can't keep lifting up all families, that is a kitchen table conversation. Go explore supermarkets, retail and pharmacies for loyalty points, gift vouchers or petrol vouchers. Talk to headmasters about help with school fees or find a good independent school charging 30% less. Explore State Govt Concessions. Let's Go Kid's voucher books at libraries. Kidsport vouchers at Councils. Whole world out there if you get the calendar out and plan it. Sat morning, Sun arvo cook up for the week with what's in freezer. Freeze leftovers for winter. About the only useful thing from high school was home economics classes. That and girl guides club in primary school. Inner girl guide/boy scout, let's go Australia. 10% interest rates will come if China and USA keep playing with their currency...We won't be immune from the fallout. Prep now. Don't expect Banks to give you a holiday on the mortgage for the McMansion. Downsize and save the marriage and access to the kids while housing market still floats.
