    I think poly nitration of toluene (methylbenzene) can yield TNT (trinitrotoluene). I'm familiar with the positions being 2 (ortho), 3 (meta), and 4 (para) if the methyl group is at the 1 position. I'm not a student or a chemist, but I just love learning about science in general, and I love these videos! Thanks a lot!

    Just a correction sir , in the nitration of benzene , h3o is formed not h2o
    Hno3+2h2so4=no2 + hso4 + h3o
    Thank you , the videos are very helpful .

    Nice video however for the formation of the electrophile I learned a different reaction for the same specification and board (F324 OCR):
    HNO3 + H2SO4 --> H2NO3+ + HS04-
    H2NO3+ + H2SO4 --> H3O+ + HSO4- + NO2+
    to give overall equation: HNO3 + 2H2SO4- --> NO2+ + 2HSO4- + H3O+
    Is this right?
    Thanks

    • @MaChemGuy
      @MaChemGuy  8 лет назад

      Correct, the one in the video is easier to remember

    Does the halogen carrier need to be the same as the halogen being subsituted, for example would Br2 need AlBr3 or could you still use AlCl3?

    • @MaChemGuy
      @MaChemGuy  2 года назад +1

      Best off same otherwise all kinds of hell breaks loose!! You could get the wrong halogen substituting etc
