This one is a bit quick and dirty. Sorry for the shaky cam!! We're working on a new video for our weekend trip and hope to start actually putting some videos out a little more regularly! Thanks for everyone's patience!
Very nice apples-apples comparison. Thank-you. I've been an XM-weather subscriber for about 7 years, but now that I'm flying less, I've dropped down to FIS-B only. It's definitely not as good. Lots more data dropout problems. The display on G3X looks quite a lot nicer that G496. I never saw the winds data so useful like it looks on your G3X.
Such a great, informative video! Thank you for sharing! I’ve been looking at your stuff for a couple years and you’ve inspired me. Finished my RV-10 in June and completed the fly off in July. Now have 55 hours and making our first long distance trip Saturday (Georgia to Sedona , Lake Powell etc). My panel is almost a mirror image of yours. We just subscribed to XM Wx and wasn’t sure how to even display it. Lol. Feel much more familiar now. Thanks again
Thanks for the information. I will have to see after I get my plane in the air the fall how much I’ll need the higher def and real-time information. It certainly seems like it will be advantageous for longer trips. The bigger question is the obvious use of Bose headsets versus your old lightweight QT sets. Did you discover something we should all know? I have an A20 and another ANR set, but was wondering if those QT’s were a good option still for the rest of our sets. As always, thanks for the huge contribution you’ve made to my smooth -10 build with all your videos! In particular the Aerosport-related videos have really saved me a lot of time and trouble.
Thanks for the comment Scott! Really appreciate it! We were actually talking a LOT about headsets during this flight. The new Bose are super nice, but with sunglasses on we thought the noise cancelling isn't as great as the QT. It is kind of a pain for short flights though to get those ear plugs jammed in your brain just right. Also if you have passengers that don't want your ear goo... I'll jot that down for another vid for sure. We have lots of thoughts to share on that! ;) Thx!
I always enjoy watching your videos. I wonder, if you live up in Minnesota, with freezing temp. I do not recall that your plane has de icing on the wings?
very good info, thanks. Go to Walmart and buy a pack of microfiber cleaning cloths and make sure they have at least 10% Polyamide. Cost about $5.00 They will clean your glass touch screens, iPads, iPhones, etc with one swipe. Amazing.
When flying, Foreflight needs to get it's weather data from somewhere. Typically, cell data reception isn't available, so you can either get ADSB or SXM from a remote receiver that the iPad connects to. So ultimately, it's the same data as shown in the video, even though it might be presented slightly differently.
Do you have the GDL 52 or 52R? In other words, did you connect via bluetooth to G3X or hardwired? If you have the portable GDL, did you need the "external" (to the unit, not the aircraft) Satellite antenna? Sorry if you answered these questions in another comment, but for some strange reason comments are not loading.
The GDL52 wasn't around in 2015, so I have the GDL39r. I have the center screen hardwired via serial to the GDL, and if I want weather on either of the side screens, I get connect those screens to the GDL via Bluetooth.
Very nice system and looks like you know your way around it well. Huge gain in situational awareness but could it be a huge distraction as well? Thinking about all the distracted drivers I see on the road.
Distraction is absolutely something that I could see happening with avionics that have as many bells and whistles as the G3X. However, as pilot in command, you first responsibility AT ALL TIMES is FLY THE PLANE.
There’s strange psychology at work here. The fact that XMWX isn’t free makes it seem more valuable. But try this thought experiment: imagine FIS-B was $30 a month and the cheapest XM was $60 a month. That would be the same $30/mon price delta as we have now, but how many people would say XM is worth paying twice what FIS-B costs? Having had both, I do think XM is better, but the price is hard to beat.
LOL! "If your just flying regionally, ADS-B has very good data" So like if you not flying regionally and you are flying though worm holes and jumping around and need to know what the icing is in California before you jump from Iowa to California. I agree you should probably get XM. LOL Worst explanation of the differences I've come across.

Awesome! More videos would be great!
Glad to see more videos. Hope to see more
Thanks for watching!
YEAH!! So glad to you back on. You teased us a month or so ago.. Thanks for all the work you do to get these out.. Have a safe flight.
Haha! I know.. Just when we think we're there.. Maybe we could teach the kids to edit videos!? We have like 3 in our backlog :(
@@GoodPlaneLiving 3 kids, or 3 videos? LOL... Can't wait to watch them.. The videos... My kid watching days are behind me..
Have watched all your videos and looking forward to more.
Thanks for watching!

Alright!! A new video
Thanks for watching!
Very informative thanks for sharing. I noticed the time on the G3X is in local time. Will it automatically update as you cross time zones?
Good to know.. Thanks!

It doesn’t have any anti ice features. That’s one of the few things a Cirrus has that I would have liked!

John Dill thanks for the tip!
Nicely done! And I"m a strict critic...
Glad to see you back. Seems like your getting some pretty good info with XM. How does this compare to a Fore Flight weather?

The Dallas TFR is where GW Bush lives... its always there!

NEXRAD images are always going to be 6+ minutes old. For that reason alone you have to ask if higher resolution of old data is worth 360$ a year.
Absolutely it is! IntuVue RDR-4000 is a little heavy and expensive.... haha

Colleen: I'm just excited I got to use the word "situational awareness"!! #newbie
