    Who’s looking for a new hobby for 2024? Something chilled and rewarding that you’ll never regret getting started with? Sign up for one of Toby’s courses and get sketching. It’s great fun, he’s a great teacher. I started in April this year and haven’t looked back 😊😊

    So I've been an artist and been consistently drawing and painting for just over 5 years now, but following your tips and applying a looser, more free style to my work has made me rediscover the fun in art that I feel I had recently lost. Before I was all about perfection, looking to craft a portfolio or stuff I could sell or could be hired in a studio for, and in doing so I lost touch with what made art so much fun. It became more about work and less about why I became an artist in the first place.
    I had recently been in a pretty sad place, wasn't creating much art as I was going through a breakup and ending an unhealthy relationship, and as such had been in quite a creative block: all my artwork was coming out all aggressive and tense and hard-edged and the ideas and images weren't flowing at all. Finding your videos, and applying a looser, more free style have changed all of that and sketching has become more fun than its ever been. It's been an amazing to unwind, de-stress and rediscover my passion in this tough time thanks to discovering your channel. Sorry that was long just wanted to say thank you so much Toby! Your art style, mindset and passion for your craft are truly inspiring!

    Hi Toby. I love this tutorial. I have followed the link to the reference photo but it only appears as a portrait shape in Pinterest so it cuts off the sides - any tips how I get the landscape version - thanks

    @tobysketchloose can I ask which fountain pen cartridges you use please? Mine all smudge/run as soon as I add water or paint but I enjoy doing the actual sketch with them?

      Check my supplies link, I don't use cartridges, bottled ink for me

    This is just an aside…..if you were going on a trip and could only take a small non-watercolour regular sketchbook, what materials would you choose to go with it?

    • @TobySketchLoose
      @TobySketchLoose  7 месяцев назад

      Small set of watercolour and a fountain pen, possibly two fountain pens one soluble ink and one non soluble.

      @@TobySketchLoose thanks…would you use your watercolour in a regular non-watercolour sketchbook?

    • @TobySketchLoose
      @TobySketchLoose  7 месяцев назад +1

      yes, just lightly - the pages tend to be more absorbent but they can cope with a few touches here and there @@robinwild1

      Maybe a post about using watercolours on lightweight paper would be a useful one!
