Let's hear it for Mike allowing his guests to speak, talk over him on occasion so they can make their point, all while yes and-ing them into an honest light for the conversation to flow and resonate. Two of my fave comedians at once, super fun conversation. Thanks for another one! 💗✨
It's so strange to me that Matteo was blocked by many in the entertainment world, when he's *exactly* the type of entertainer that people are dying to see.
I am awe inspired by his talent, It’s crazy! I just recently discovered him and now I can’t get enough:) He’s intelligent, thoughtful, he’s an artist, comedian, has a passion for cooking, speaks 4 languages, sings, and so well spoken. Loved this interview, and as I’m watching it right now he just said the world is not black and white, there’s a big gray area, now I know there was a reason I found him, I have felt the exact same way for all of my life, I’ve always questioned things, and I delve into things deeply because of my curious nature, I’m in love with and so open to seeing new and different sides of things, a black sheep I am not, Inthink it’s so fulfilling to find out there’s so much more to everything then you would have ever imagined and while I’m here I want to soak up all the ways there are to think and feel about new things. There’s never a reason to be so set in one’s way that you shut down or shame anyone that thinks differently. I’ll never understand close minded stringent unyielding human beings , I am Definitely Gray. Anyway Matteo has opened up a whole new world of wonder for me. So glad I stumbled upon this interview 🥰
I am loving discovering all these diverse comedians nowadays. Twenty years ago it was all the same demographic and same jokes. Comedy is a vibrant industry now
What blows me away about matteo is that all his talents are perfection. Its not a jack of all trades, master if none type thing. He's perfect at all of them
I truly think that Mateo is one of the absolute best comics out there. It would be a travesty for him to toil in obscurity. Side note my dad also named his next kid (half brother) the same name as me!
Oh wow, his comments about art school and critiques; 100% agree. When I deal with artists who freak out with even a little bit of criticism, I know they didn't attend school. Which is great for some but you do develop a body callous when you have to defend your work daily/weekly and it makes you cold, hard and much better ultimately.
This was terrific. I especially enjoyed the point raised about how reels/clips and the algorithm finding people who will find Matteo funny and basically helping to grow his audience and really catapult his career. That's how I found him and now he's my favorite comic (aside from Birbigs, of course). Love both you guys!
Phenomenal- so glad we have Mateo. Thank YOU Thank You! I was weeping 16 minutes in. Some real truths I lived. I'm glad to know I'm not alone. More, more more... Mateo's so bright! My shining star...Love him.
Mexican here. This was not the first time I've heard a man doing this, naming his kids from different marriages the same. It's not even the second time I've heard it :') Great episode! I looked up the Platanito ep but all I found was Matteo rollerskating to Mariah Carey?
I absolutely adore Matteo. I've been following him for about 10 months now he is hysterical and multitalented. By the way, he's also very handsome. Wishing him all good things that comes his way. It is so well deserved. 💕
This was brilliant. He's so inspring. And I want to hear this Maria Callas song. I went to high school with these girls that had a cutting of Masterclass that was EPIC. I'm so thankful for speech and debate. It taught me so much.
This was such a poignant podcast with Matteo. I love Mike's questions and how they drew out various parts of Matteo that I'd heard before but the information landed differently and also some things I hadn't heard. I saw Matteo's guest spot on Happily Never After last night and seeing this afterward was shocking--it was a raw honest conversation in very much the same way HNA was but it was so much more humanely revelatory. Beautifully done!
I really hope Matteo has a bit about naming the second family's kids (whichever that one was). What if the second John's Mom didn't want to name him John? Like did the Grandpa have to argue for each name? Just sweating bullets that they'd refuse? Were they all in the same order? Like did it go family 1 kid, family 2 kid etc.. Or did one family have two kids in a row? That's insane.
I agree, Matteo put Liza in your act. I know who she is but not a lot else but every time you do her on "I Never Liked You," I laugh so hard that I can't breathe. I think it's because she is an archetype of the abused diva. If audience members don't know who she is, your command of the character will quickly get them up to speed.
@@julietteangeli I've seen Cabaret as a kid and interviews of Liza, to know the basic characteristics. I still say she's an archetype of the pill popping boozy child of famous Hollywood parents.
Thanks for doing this interview with Matteo. I thought I just wasn't in the know, having just discovered him on the internet recently. I loved hearing his come-up story. I'm also very intrigued by this Maria Callas song, more details on where to find this particular recording please.
The time went so fast! Makes no sense, Mateo that you didn't have your 1st special way, way sooner➡sorry you had to wait that long. I just learned of Michael Caine's adage of, "Use the difficulty" in art & in life's difficult situations➡and here you are describing an example of how to apply that 'philosophy,' & how applying it worked to meet your career goals.
When Christina does the thing that Matteo says she does when she sings that is too much, I think it's the spirit of Christmas possessing her. Her name is Christina, after all. She's calling the spirits, lol!
"Great episode! I really enjoyed the insights and the flow of the conversation. As an editor, I can see how much thought goes into producing quality content like this. If you ever need any editing assistance or collaboration to elevate your episodes even further, I'd love to help out. Keep up the amazing work!"
22:51 Will someone please interpret this for me? I’m assuming it means something like, Good for your grandfather, but when I tried putting on the captions they all skip that part. Not a huge deal, but I would still very much appreciate it nonetheless 😊
I speak Italian, not Spanish, but I think a rough translation would be “Your grandfather is very smart” or “how smart your grandfather is.” Basically just brushing it off lol
Let's hear it for Mike allowing his guests to speak, talk over him on occasion so they can make their point, all while yes and-ing them into an honest light for the conversation to flow and resonate. Two of my fave comedians at once, super fun conversation. Thanks for another one! 💗✨
My only complaint is that he dodged the question "What language do you have sex in?" Mike set him up for a home run, and he ignored it.
It's so strange to me that Matteo was blocked by many in the entertainment world, when he's *exactly* the type of entertainer that people are dying to see.
i'm a simple man, i see matteo lane and i click. did not expect to watch the entire hour, such a great conversation
I love Matteo. Can someone please put this guy on Broadway? He’s an undeniable talent.
The guy is so:
Loveable
Adorable
Talented
Cute
Nicely communicative
Self effacing
Joyful
He deserves any and all success that comes his way.
He says he can't dance though... He should learn because he'd be unstoppable

Seriously. Remember when everyone was doing jokes on airplane food? Even Ellen Degeneres.
Mike snorting over Matteo is absolutely everything!
What blows me away about matteo is that all his talents are perfection. Its not a jack of all trades, master if none type thing. He's perfect at all of them
Matteo is always a great guest.
The RUclips algorithm brought me both Matteo and Jess Kirson and they are now two of my favorite comics
Mateo is incredible. I would never have anticipated this conversation. Absolutely genius.
I truly think that Mateo is one of the absolute best comics out there. It would be a travesty for him to toil in obscurity. Side note my dad also named his next kid (half brother) the same name as me!
This is Rick from Cincinnati celebrating by 85th birthday. Love your videos. Stay Safe.
Matteo is such an inspiration and a fantastic interview. His work is brilliant hysterical and my obsession. Thank you.
I love listening to Matteo. I could listen to him talk about anything!
What a great interview---Matteo is a great conversationalist. And Mike your not a slouch either. Great
Matteo, you are loved!
I watched this twice in a row. Thank you so much for having Mateo on!
Mike is genuinely a great invitewer/host.
When I was in art school, during a critique, I actually got someone yelling, "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND MY ART!" 😅
Yup. My life drawing teacher said, "I'm leading you into battle. You're not all going to be here when it's over."
'work general to specific' is such a activation phrase for me, really taking me back to my foundation drawing and figure classes LOL!
Matteo is always funny. Thanks Mike!
Matteo, this may be the best interview you've ever done. I look forward to seeing more of these vibes in the future. 🌈 🕊

I’m a simple woman. I see Matteo I click.
Also Matteo is such a multitalented genius it’s amazing

Instant Matteo fan from this. ❤❤❤
Mexican here. This was not the first time I've heard a man doing this, naming his kids from different marriages the same. It's not even the second time I've heard it :')
Great episode! I looked up the Platanito ep but all I found was Matteo rollerskating to Mariah Carey?
This is such a good podcast I love love love love “you are working towards a masterpiece”
This was SO refreshing to listen to right now. Thank you both so much for making a huge difference in one stranger's evening ❤
I absolutely adore Matteo. I've been following him for about 10 months now he is hysterical and multitalented. By the way, he's also very handsome. Wishing him all good things that comes his way. It is so well deserved. 💕
Mateo, please come to Chattanooga Tn. My wife and I never laughed so hard watching Hair Plugs and Heartache 😂😂😂 also Nick is gold😊😊
This was such a delightful and relaxed conversation. Really enjoyed Mike’s interview style and as always, Matteo made me laugh. Staying tuned!
This was brilliant. He's so inspring. And I want to hear this Maria Callas song. I went to high school with these girls that had a cutting of Masterclass that was EPIC. I'm so thankful for speech and debate. It taught me so much.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Matteo!
Love the sincere/funny dynamic. Great interview and convo. Much appreciated, cheers!
Wow, sooo funny AND such an interesting conversation. Can you please have Matteo over again and again?!?!? Greeting from Spain! (I miss Norm ❤),
Well Matteo is Irish, Italian and Mexican - you can’t really get any more Catholic than that!
You guys are both so handsome! You don’t need anything done to your faces 🥰
May be one of my new favorite episodes!! Love this one!
I adore Matteo, new to your content but am a fan after watching how you conduct an interview. Thanks!
“It’s a little much,” he says, in his sultry bass profundo 🥰
Thanks❣your conversation got me laughing, thinking, wondering, re-considering, imagining, & I had fun watching you have fun! Time well spent🌟
Matteo’s soul is so beautiful that it makes me want to cry
What an unexpected treat. Thank you!

Really great interview
You’re a great interviewer Mike! Love Matteo
This was a wonderful interview/conversation. Huge fan of Matteo! Thank you.
Saw Mike last night in Seattle, was great and I love Matteo
WOW. I was obsessed before but now ...
Dude, Mike looks really good. He looks so much healthier than a few years ago. Good for him!
No. His best impression is bro guy ghost hunter 😂
Matteo is so awesome!!
OMG!!MIKE KNOWS NICK!!😂😂😂😂
"Netflix said no" as title for special would be SO FUNNY. Granted I'm just a random gay, not somebody in the biz.
Sir ma'am. I can't make myself go to church in English. IN LATIN? Bye girl, bye.

Watch the film Cabaret and you will get the Liza hype! Also, check out Jinkx Monsoon as Liza.

Love these guys!!!
LOVE Matteo!!
❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😊 love both these guys together!!!
Matteo is hilarious
Thanks for doing this interview with Matteo. I thought I just wasn't in the know, having just discovered him on the internet recently. I loved hearing his come-up story. I'm also very intrigued by this Maria Callas song, more details on where to find this particular recording please.
Now waiting for the collab animated by Matteo
Me encanta Mateo! ❤❤❤❤
Shout-out Tosca. One of the greatest pieces of art
I was waiting for Mike to ask if Taylor Swift is a good singer

I’d watch a full set of Matteo in drag as Liza.
When Christina does the thing that Matteo says she does when she sings that is too much, I think it's the spirit of Christmas possessing her. Her name is Christina, after all. She's calling the spirits, lol!
More offended by the Olive Garden 😂😂😂
I’d LOVE a one woman show with Mateo as Liza.
Okay not to objectify Mike Birbiglia but that little beard is making him daddyyyyyy 😍
they both looking like some salt and pepper zaddys tbh
😊😊
Silenceo! No Foto!😊

What's up with Mateo turning into a beef daddy
Mike looking HOT!
I worked at Michaels in the early 90's❤😂🎉
My man with the MegaMan reference! Matteo I'm so gay for you!
the salt & pepper hair?? 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️
Too funny. Matteo is looking all "Daddyish" these days with the grayish hair and the jacked arms. He better be keeping his husband satisfied !!
Mateo thinks Olive Garden is hack, but he's a gay man obsessed with Liza Mannelli.😂❤
Is it just me, or does Mike look more and more like a young Tom Hanks?!
Mateo! 😍
Omg ❤❤❤
Nick. Smith. 😂
🤣✨👌✨😺
I'm trying to make out what the Mexican TV show host said but I can't quite hear it. What did he say?
Your grandfather was really smart😂😂😂
Matteo's been hitting the gym but the wedding ring has disappeared. hmmm....
He changed your life and you don’t even remember his last name?!?!
I love that he's a fortnite guy. He builds but how are his edits? That's my question.
Fortnite builds? Colour me impressed. I'm too old and slow for that. 40+ playing Zero Builds.
22:01 WHAT????????
Singer today: Kelly Clarkson and Leann Rhimes
Kelly Clarkson needed to be mentioned as a singer still bringing the artistry!
Well, shoot, knowing Matteo is ALSO an artist makes me feel like such a failure! lol
Tell us Mike, what did Hitchens get wrong? Pray, tell.
Matteo is so hot that it vexes me. I can't elaborate
