What’s your favourite budget meal?
chicken rice
The cai fan store in the basement canteen of the Singtel Comcentre in Somerset! 'Hidden' budget meal in the Orchard-ish area
Nasi Lemak!
White bee Hoon!
can you guy do eating our favourite carb for 24 hours and you must include two vegetable and meat can please make sew do this challenge
This is, by far, the best Eatbook episode ever! It's so relatable for all of us Singaporeans. Can your team also do a food challenge on budget meals in various polys and universities?
Dont need come NTU though, no budget meal one 😄
We have our poly + uni series under our Eatbook Food Guides segment, you can check that out! :p
Lery's attempt was the most realistic and dedicated!!!!!!
To all the poly kids still studying, this is what adult life awaits you when you go out to work. Thinking of what to eat everyday is the gazillion dollar question that is on every working adults mind.
this has to be a sign that I see this video today bcus today was the one day I spent 30$ on my malatang bcus I put too much noodles and tofu and was too shy to ask the lady if I can put it back
its $30 not 30$
It’s fine it’s just a typo probably
NUUUUUU, be brave and tell them the next time! 🥺
I admire Chow for always bringing a water bottle with her, but let's be fair here, no plus points should be awarded if she did not spend for her drink.
Agreed, it's similar to cooking own food which was excluded from the challenge
shut up la u hate chou for what
But that’s actually what people on a budget do.
@@beezlebub9 then they should have included homecook meals too since that's what ppl on a budget really do
@@beezlebub9 the point of the video is to show that $4 can still give you many options, even a drink. giving points for free water defeats that purpose. they just gave it to her anyway since she's in last place.
theres a caifan store at blk 6 hougang ave 3, unit number 01-78, called Goldhill Family Restaurant! They serve 2 vege and 1 meat for only $2.50! They try their best to absorb the cost as there are many elderlies living near the vicinity and many migrant workers in the industrial factories nearby at defu lane!! You guys should give it a try, quite solid place to go!
ps: choose the chicken wing, they give you the entire wing, not just a party wing!!
I agree, the chicken wing is amazing!!
Dang $2.50 is a good price despite it being expensive
Always pay more if you can afford it, pass it on
I love Chow. She usually eats at the stall so she keeps plastic waste down. Love her
Amanda is so much fun! I wish I had friends like her back in the day!
Need to try an episode to work with healthy and cheap food. Not eat just to be full - the carbs and low nutrients food eg the bee hoon and mock meat, some poor veges no protein.
If you guys can do it, I salute. Cuz the gov promo healthy eating right...Ps. Health promotion board recommend half plate veg, 1/4 complex carbs (eg whole grain), 1/4 protein. not jiak chor pah (吃粗饱)- simply just to fill the tummy. If can eat healthy according to what the gov promote, and cheap choices that they offer, that would be the best. How many of the food that they ate are healthy? Only the cai fan so far.... the rest are all jiak chor pah, 90% noodles with fish cake and 2 leaves~
It would soon be like the lower income in the west, becoming super obesed cuz the food that they could afford are junk processed food which is high in carbs and sodium, low in nutrients eg the fast food meals...
completely agree - protein should be much higher for a proper balanced diet - most people I've met have a very poor idea of how much protein should be consumed and how much they're getting from a meal. The way the government promotes healthy eating is not feasible - I've never seen an actual healthy option at the hawker centre.
@@joanne1004yea to me anything that I have to pay that is above $0.01 is expensive. Cant wait to eat just beansprout, egg and rice for my remaining life😢
@@gladiatorgamer9502 Oh no! Sorry to hear that!
eh... may i ask for the budget meal that they ate, how did they find the portion of it? because for me i encounter when i buy it right, the portions is like so little is quite less then the normal size meal ..so the budget meal they will sometimes give lesser than vs the normal priced. Not sure if the talents did encounter it.
So glad to be Singaporean. There’re tons of affordable food accessible
that is crazy that you can get all those things for under 4$, there is no way you could do that in new Zealand, love this ep.
Can we explore nutrition value of these meals, the initial captured karaage don... stay healthy if eat regularly
Its actually quite depressing for some of the meals. Hmm. But i appreciate the budget meal option.
I had $2.60 cai fan for one month straight and no complains at all. Same ingredients same stall.
im sitting on all ur popmarts tomorrow
dont do this to us please...
sew, seems confident and happy on this ep 😊
Loves Sew so much!!! Pls cast her more in eating challenges
How come Amanda didn’t use the website when she was at Orchard?
Tbh, some of them must have been so hungry at the end of the day.
Lery is so adorable!
Does Sew save her salary? haha.
I love this challenge relatable to us
Gahmen should use means tested charging for all f&b, can use singpass verify income bands
amanda pls share the lipgloss u’re wearing at 7:55!
Lery so cute and funny hahaha❤
Omgggg Lery!!! Soo happy to see a Bidadarian 🎉🎉😊😊
Lery and his kopiiii
Hello eatbook, I always feel intrigued by your amazing food recommendation videos. 😊 You guys are so creative. 👍
OG 72 hour challenge let’s goooooooo
Sew most funny I keep replay the part when she touch the egg tart with weird expression 😂😂😂😂
Sew ur not the only one, I also hate veggies and my school said the top 1 group in Chinese will get Bubble tea instead of top 3 and I am top 3 so now I want I mean need bubble teaaaaaa
So it's like Rahmah meal but better cuz the Rahmah meals here are kinda scammy lmao damn small portion
I'm a Singaporean living in Switzerland and i really do miss the convenience and also the cost of getting food in Singapore.
Hope you're coming back to SG soon!! ✌️
This wasn't pointed out - not all budget meals are healthy or nutritious .
Imho. Not going to travel just to buy the budget food. Would be over budget if I factor in the two way transport cost. Convenience still come 1st. 😊
Go to makan place n say no more... hawkers wayang for gov 😂
Mcdonalds vanila cone $1
Gotta say the distorted voice filter is overused and painful to hear.
Great video! Now please try to find halal variety food that cost not more than $4.
Try eating only cai fan for 72h👍🏻👍🏻
Eatbook please make Keto diet challenge or LCHF challenge…
every meal eat cai fan sure pass
4:41 thats not a drink lmao
Yea I thought everything had to be bought outside that's why the other talents always bought a drink...
ya wtf when i saw that i rly thought its a joke
I'd sneak over to JB for the 72 hours 😆
2:40 Next video idea?
9:19 I see the cup i hear the price i already know thats the bloody HOLIM drinks KNN $2.30 for not even alot of liquid. everytime i order drinks i ask is it holim if yes then nah.
@sew you can still order like chicken thigh without bones.
Usually when i order these kind, i will ask the stall owner to help debone and deskin directly, easier for them to do it than we do it ourselves
Can we have a halal budget food version? It will be harder to find
unfortunately I cant find any budget meal near my house...Showing 0 result(s) near Airview Park (Within 2km)
We can't seem to find any results that match your search or filter. Though I like to find gf like chow who like cai fan & bring own water bottle everywhere.
Relatable, but not very possible in the CBD... plus pretty unhealthy and not very balanced diet :/
Cook urself then if u want to save money
@@gladiatorgamer9502 Hi, no need to be rude. Cooking is definitely a good way to save money, but what's the chances that most people have a good enough work life balance to be able to spend that much more time grocery shopping and cooking? Please do understand that work life balance in general in Singapore is also not very conducive to this.
Itea bbt is under $4 😂
Imagine you can eat anything for $4 per meal
Ok so i can eat 6 meals a day at $4 per meal? Lol
Breakfast, Morning Tea, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Dinner, Supper..
i hate cai fan because honestly.......my mother cooks way better LOL
and I'd rather cook for myself too!!!!! cook>>>>>>outside food
Hello eatbook, love your videos but you guys need more muslim talents for this kind of challenge also. So we know the website would be useful for muslim people as well. As a muslim watching this, I don’t feel its useful for me
Yong Tau Foo isnt budget or under $4 these days.. each piece is $0.70 already ..5 pc of it is $3.50 already.
I eat $2 caifan everyday
i dont feel I can full from the amount of the food
$4 halal edition if you can do that then i will salute u
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
@@EatbookYT oh yeah
Yeahhhh
Yes, will be waiting for it
No hate....but was Sew a last minute replacement in this episode...she looks really tired (during the intro segment) and unusually for her on a shoot, less made-up..... get some rest girl....
你们新加坡年轻总是开口都爱说英语。
much respect towards chow for the water bottle!!! i myself would die drinking that much tasteless water!!! i need gatorade propel atleast! or give me some 99 cent arizona cans
and im sorry gladys.... i woulda slapped a mofo in australia for pricing arizona watermelon can for 4 bucks... its 99 cents!!!! it has it on the can!!!!! i pay less then that for a gallon of the green tea!!! that was insane!!!!! 🥲🥲
Showing 0 result(s) near '-----' (Within 2km) , guess another useful thing that it does is to let me know that my area has nothing below $4..
Can Eatbook please do a challenge for cheap & good hawker food that are healthy (fits HPB's Healthy Plate requirements)? That's a totally realistic everyday challenge, since we rely on hawker food for meals on workdays!
Thank you Sew for giving idea for the next 72 hour challenge: 72 Hour homecooked meal challenge 😂
Feel like this episode just shows how dystopian food prices are getting here, instead of showing that food is "affordable" or "budget friendly". Amanda eating 1 popiah for lunch or Lery eating 3 meatballs shouldn't be counted as a meal. How is that supposed to give anyone proper nutrition or even energy to continue the day? Also wildly out of context to compare with Switzerland to show that Singapore food is "affordable". Labour is "expensive"/people are paid better in European countries, people there generally earn a higher proportional salary which gives them purchasing power to buy a "$4" water. This whole episode just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I so agree. And I don’t think they would have found this sustainable.
Yea three meatballs… how not to be hungry?
It just shows how privileged the younger gen these days are. They don’t even know where to get cheap affordable food
I can relate to the soup BCM that Sew had, my grandparents always dabao that and its legendary.
Budget meal especially when you need to eat Halal food is hard. Especially, when the Malay stalls sells expensive food. The cheapest Halal meal you could prolly arnd $5-$6. And yet Chinese ppl complained everytime they have nothing to eat. When they have a wide variety to choose from
7:06 this part killed me hahahahah Amanda is always so funny!
liho got bbt 0.60 for first time app users and daily $2 x 2 bbt hehe.
not the bubble tea promo 🤭
@@EatbookYT bbt > food 🫣🫣🫣
Chow will survive in very difficult situation..Siew....not sure how she will survive lol
I've said it before, i ll say it again. Lery a cutie.
for the budget of under $4.00 for a meal. Meal isn't proper at all.
😔
If only Malaysia had this system... Nowadays easily spend more than rm10 for 1 simple meal...
what about Menu Rahmah?
Love the vibes in the video!!! Kudos all!! 🎉🎉❤
I love love hawker food! There are so many options for such an affordable price. I can't imagine a future where hawker centres are no longer available.
Now that’s a nightmarish thought
Singaporeans all too pampered & spoilt, no one wants to be hawker. Supply would drop & prices of hawker food will rise
Love the content. However in Singapore where the lower income consists of people from diverse races and religions it would be great to have a cast reflect a representative of that for this episode. Besides prata what other halal alternatives are there? It is good to highlight the lack of options for this group. Perhaps the government can include a halal option for at least 1 location.
Orchard towers had caifan for less than 4 dollars (for 3 ingredients) ❤ Its near the orchard mrt near thai embassy
Please bring Chow in more videos!
again, LOVE LERY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Went to one pf the coffee shop listed. The aglio olio items listed at sgd3 were not available when i asked for them. I gave up and ordered the sgd3 chai png set butbwas charged sgd3.50. Sus.
In Orchard road..to get $4 meals.. can go into a 7-11 or Cheers, and get a sandwich or Tuna Mayo Onigiri.. or a MacDonald's, and get a Burger.. only..
(Joking)
Dear Editor, i am taking a Grab ride of $9 to goto the Kopitiam to eat my $4 budget meal.
Well in the US I got Panera Bread's (a sandwich fast food chain) Unlimited Sip's Club (for free, 2 months-free trial), which allows me to get any drink each hour haha
9:55 in England water can cost up to £2.50 which is 4.18 Singapore Dollar🥲
they look like they haven't had square pizza
Is it possible to do a eating out on a budget (high protein meal)?🤣
That’s such a cool website/app!
More episode like this hehe
go r&b lol got bb tea for $2
how much is a MCD sundae cone???
Sew can be our sugar mommy
From what Charmaine ate at the 827, i presume that time she went, the whole coffeeshop was under renovation with new stalls coming in.. that was like first half of the year.. haha
Wow.. I spent $60 per day on my meals. I think I should be feeling guilty now
$60 a day on food? You work at city area?
All good if you can earn more than 60 per day.
@@poolfans yes
@@pyschannel3831 yes.. actually it’s more a mental block for me. I work in city area and a plate of chicken rice cost $8 and ban mian $6.5. Growing up, these food cost $2-$3 so I cannot bear to pay this kind of prices.
I ended up paying $20 for meals at restaurant haha 😆
If you are rich or parents rich or spouse rich then don't need to feel guilty. You are contributing to sustain the dire economy. 😊
