The next person might not get away from it like you were luckily able to.

My advice, never get in touch with those people again. Once a person confess something like that, there's no turning back. Uh, there is turning back. Could this dude have been serious about wanting to murder him? Sure. But here's couple of giveaways. He tells everyone his plan. Knowing they are going to likely tell this dude about it. But he tells them his plan. Knowing once the dude is dead and the cops get involved, he's going to jail. I don’t get what happened. Were they not friends? Who keeps that on the DL? So f’ing weird.
My concern is that they did not react to the actual gravity of the situation. They were "nice" enough to talk him out of murder, but to me, that says something far more scary. If they didn't understand (or care about) how extreme the situation was, then it leads me to believe that they could be talked into it by the vocalist.
All of them are spineless...They will just sit back and let someone get murdered...

I knew a fellow guitarist about 15 years ago who was a seriously talented guy, an amazing player. Met him randomly one day at a local music shop, and it turned out we liked a lot of the same stuff and a couple of weeks later we hung out, jammed, and had a great time.
The next time after that, I couldn't host at my place because of my then roommate's work/sleep schedule, but my new friend invited me over to his place.
Turned out, I was an acquaintance of his roommate, a woman who I'd gone to university with a few years earlier. We had a quick hello, caught up for a second, and then she went out. Me and buddy jammed, had a productive writing session, and I went home.
The very next day, in the evening, the guy called me up, and within about three seconds of me saying, "Hey man", he threatened to kill me for the transgression of making his roommate laugh, and for "flirting" with her.
He was a pyscho all along, but he didn't see me as a threat in any way since our only connection was music, something at which we were equally talented, and enthused by.
To be clear, he had zero romantic involvement with my university friend, but harbored a wild, possessive delusion that she was his wife, or some bullshit.
His threats were enough for me to hang up and straight up call the cops on his ass. He was dumb enough to forget I knew his address, I guess.
I never heard from him again, but my old friend, his roommate, told a few days later (she called me) that she had to have her landlord evict him because he went nuts after the cops visited and he destroyed his bedroom, and then apparently cried for hours. Dude was totally unstable.
Anyway, you have to protect yourself, and be proactive when you receive threats. If someone threatens your life, get the fuck outta there and call the cops.

You always call the cops when someone threatens your life, unless you're a worse criminal than the person who threatened you, or you have something to hide.
What if I hadn't call the cops? What if I had tried to find him? Maybe I wouldn't have been able to get to him and then he took it out her anyway.
There's a big difference between me, out on the sidewalk trying to fight a guy (a fight there's no guarantee I would win) and a patrol car pulling up and two unis knocking on the door.
Most people, pyscho or not, get a puckered ass at the sight of cops looking for them.

Pennsylvania is a "shall-issue" state for a concealed carry license, meaning your local sheriff will approve your application to carry a firearm unless they have reason not to. You should look into it if you haven't already.

Touring with strangers is almost always more trouble than it's worth, I have friends and friends of friends who have been in terrible situations while filling in or joining bands right before a tour. Getting manipulated, slowly being robbed while completely unaware, getting instruments destroyed, or just straight up left on the other side of the country.
Glad you’re okay man, that sounds like an incredibly scary and traumatic experience. Just know that we’re all supporting you and are here for you.

I could understand if they're legitimately fucking terrified of the dude, and being around someone who is violently manipulative and controlling doesn't exactly make your feel safe for just as much as accidentally looking at someone for 0.5 seconds longer than is required.

This is wild. I've known Alex Mena for years, I don't personally know the other band members, but there has always been "rumors" about that lead singer. Alex is great guy, great musician; can't believe he didn't standup on your behalf. I wonder if there are similar situations that you might not be aware of or even part of. Not 100% sure what happened with Luna Muerta (and I just wish that that show in Philly would've gone down and we could've met and shared the stage with each other), but for you to try and join a better situation and this be the result, I am so beyond sorry. I really hope you can find something better and don't have to deal with this again. As a long time fan and fellow PA musician, it hurts seeing other people in our scene have to go through this. Ray, I was waiting for this video and was concerned about what was going on. I feel relieved for you but at the same time that should not have happened the way that it did. Your band mates should NOT have kept it from you, and some form of law enforcement should have been contacted at the very least! Glad you're back home safe dude! You never know what other people are scheming behind their eyes or facial expressions that contradict their true thoughts. I do personally believe that just about anybody (circumstances and context depending) should have a chance to be a friend or be in your life, UNTIL they prove otherwise as we have just been told. The beauty of RUclips and the internet, and social media in general is that we as musicians can create remotely without worry of being harmed or being in situations that make us uneasy or uncomfortable. Being angry is one thing, premeditating murder and then confessing a plan to murder someone to several other people…that’s absolutely bananas. Why they didn’t kick that guy out of the band and then protect him instead of telling you…Turn those tapes over to the police. Just my two cents.
Because they'd rather be bystanders, keep it amongst themselves and not say anything because their status in the band is lower than the vocalist himself. In other words, they are afraid to confront him of his well-being and his status in the band.
I know the bassist personally. The behavior to keep it among the 4 of them and exclude Ray from knowing within a 2 week window is shady, disgusting and downright assholeish.
his one problem I see is that he may get retaliated with a wire tapping charge which is a felony in some states (mine) if you record a conversation without notifying the other party and made aware.
I have a hunch he already went to the authorities. Ray said he took the appropriate steps towards the end of the video, I feel like he has a firm grasp on how to best handle the situation.
Actually, pressing charges might even be worse. Ever heard of when the husband of an abused wife is released from jail after the woman having him locked up? If he's "dangerous", as you say, when he gets out of jail.. take a guess what happens next. The legal system isn't going to save you then.

I've had a slightly similar situation last year where my life was threatened by a bunch of people on the internet over a meme. Without going into too much detail about my event because what's important is that you're safe now for the time being, i understand the fear of having to be on guard because my life was threatened over something minor.
Just to be on the safe side bud, don't hesitate to carry with you any place that legally allows it just in case something does happen. It's always better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. I, as well as hopefully everybody watching, want you to be alright. I'm sure you're able to handle yourself man, i definitely know that you're a strong enough dude to be able to handle yourself, but just please be careful.

i faced the same 8 or 9 years back....but in my case it was a bassist....so i got off the train midway with my gear and got back home...in fact a few years later to that event we crossed paths and he tried to push me in front of a car not knowing that i was trained in self defense....i understand how u feel man, i've been there and we are roughly the same age....also u have done the right thing, we surely dont need these type of people near us.

The truth is he created all the drama by being weird passive aggressive and crossing boundaries. Yes arguments took place. But nobody was plotting a murder. I want to add that the guy excusing his behavior by saying "I'm latino, we're warmer" it's complete bullshit and only makes feel sick how bad he's making us look. Now Ray could be a little bias or have his own reserve with working or collaborating with latin people just because of that asshole and I can't blame him. Never had any problems like that in that scene and am playing in bands for 28 years.

Someone is very jealous of you, and they resent that you have a following on youtube, and they want to bully you to make themselves feel more important. I knew a guy exactly like this, a hot head that couldn't deal with if I got any special attention over him. Anything I did I was wrong or stupid to him. He watched everything I did, criticized everything I did. At first it was just annoying but eventual got scary, as i felt threatened physically. Glad you got away from that situation.
I've been away from the show for a while to take care of some personal things. Now that I'm back, I am floored that you were almost killed. That is horrible news and I hope you are doing well. Glad you’re okay brother. It’s a huge deal threatening someone’s life. It sounded like he actually meant it at the time. If someone says, “I was so mad I wanted to kill you,” I could see that being kinda blown off (still serious and would need to be addressed of course). But when someone says, “I was so pissed I actually planned to kill you but these guys talked me out of it,” is waaaaay more dangerous imo. Actually coming it with a plan speaks to a mindset. And having to be talked out of it speaks to an even higher level of desire to do it-enough so that I, like you, would’ve feared the thought wasn’t completely gone. Feels like you definitely did the only thing you could do which was get yourself safely out of that situation.

@@curtisy6234 only concern there are the differences various states have regarding open carry, or concealed carry, of firearms, carrying across state lines, or if one person in the vehicle is a convicted felon (in my state a felon cannot be in a vehicle when a firearm is within their immediate access, as an old high school friend of mine found out not long ago), but I do understand the choice to carry. I started learning about firearms at 8 years old with my father.
