Get a hoof GP to look at each foot. You have to lift up each hoof to see how bad it might be under each hoof. A side view doesn't really show what's wrong in any leg. Get a vet to look at her.
I commented with what I thought as well. It could be an abscess, hoof not even, etc. Last thing she needs is it to get infected and fill with puss and cause severe pain and need to be released. Getting up in the corium would be severely painful and the bone and hoof can start to die if it gets up far enough. It might need to be dug out and a block put on.
I've never seen a mad cow before I've seen both that get mad it's a good thing that you kept your fences between you and her. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
She is ornery... but I'm very glad you were able to confine her, treat her and hopefully a wonderful recovery! Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas Mike!
Mike I wasn’t sure she was going to listen to you,but she did afterwards. I bet her leg will be better in a few days. Thank you for sharing this with us. Merry Christmas to you and your family
I hope #130 cow feels better soon. I wonder how often cows do fall? Merry Christmas to the OWL family! Great video! Shows what you deal with when cows are hurt and not happy. Be safe, Mike!😊
That's the first time I have ever seen one of your cow's that angry with you..she was actually trying to. Charge at you. But you handled her like a champ. Merry Christmas to you Mike and all the family. As always I look forward to the next video. ❤
Oh, its happened a few times over the years Linda. You learn what behavior to look that might lead to a charge. Thanks for watching Linda, and Merry Christmas to you.
That was pretty intense, Mike. I was worried for you for a moment there. You know your job well. She was definitely challenging you as you were directing her forward into the chute. I hope she feels better quckly. Thanks for these videos, Mike. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family. ❤
She is not a mad cow. She is scared and injuried,( and being very correctly cared for by Mike) she would be giving a chance to heal ,settle down and return to herd. A true mad cow would never be out of catch pen and be on the trailer as soon as possible. To dangerous for everyone involved. My child is not going to die but I was politically correct for peta
You could have a Ferrari - ( I am not sure of the spelling, but there are people who come to farms & ranches and examine the hooves. They can cut off layers of the hoof to see if there is. an infection, a stone, or some other problem under the outer layers of the hoof. These men or women have special lifts in shoots that raise the cow off it's feet and bends the foot of the cow so it is much easier to examine and work on. From some of the videos I have seen, these special hoof treaters can do remarkable work to clean out rot, stones, other problems, and place pads on to the bottom of the hooves to make both feet the same length while the hoof heals. regrowing new hoof material. Merry Christmas to Rein and the kids.
Hey Mike! Thank You for another great video! I feel bad for #130! My left hip is bad and some days I feel like attacking people too! 😊 (a piece of cake and an Advil makes me feel better) 😁 Hopefully with the meds you gave her she should feel better soon. I know you will keep us posted on how #130 is doing! I want to wish you, Erin, Kenzie, Grace, Lincoln, Kari, Jeff and Matt a very Merry & Blessed Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2024! Until your next video~~~ Stay safe, healthy, warm and happy! ❤🐄 🐃 🎄🐂 🐃❤
I may be only 35 years old, but I also have a juvenile bursitis problem in both of my hips and some days it is a really big pain in the butt so I know what is like for cow number 130 because I take Advil for it and sometimes it doesn’t even Helps but I hope it helps Your cow
I see a lot of ranchers do this when getting medication. Before you pull the medication out put air into the bottle. If you are pulling 10 ml out first push in 10 ml of air that way you don’t have to pull hard to get it out and it will help the bottle pressure so it’s less likely to shatter under the the suction.
I don't think Mikes on her Christmas list for good things. She is very unhappy. But hopefully she will be doing better now. Have a Merry Christmas OWL family. Thanks for sharing
You Mike did such a great patient job of getting her in there. I thought she was gonna now close ya there for a second but that No NO worked. I’m so jealous of your blue clear skies. We have been socked in with fog & cloudy days over here on U.P. Of Michigan. Take care and you and yours have a lovely Christmas and New Yrs.- ‘2024🎆🎇
Mike is so committed to his animals. I would like to wish you (Mike),and everyone on the ranch a Merry Christmas. A prosperous New Year. Love your channel. I try not to miss any videos.
She certainly will be happier in a few hours. You take such good care of your animals. Thank you for such great videos. Merry Christmas to you & the family & also Carrie
Glad you treated the cow with medicine. Hopefully she responds to the treatment. Take Care and Be safe on the Ranch. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.. out
Mama cow definitely wanted a piece of you for taking her away from friends. With that medication, I sure hope she will be ok. Christmas Blessings wished to you, your family, and all the animals on your ranch!
We had a room full of health products, medicines, and tools to treat the cattle. Our vet was checking any issues every week, plus emeegency calls, when needed. Most farmers do the best they know how and pay the huge vet bills. Most farmers are fortunate to break even, unless they farm in a regenerative manner like Gabe Brown, Greg Judy, Joel Salatin, or similar styles.
When she fell I freaked out. She is stubborn, I've never heard you raise your voice 😂😂. Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, sending yall love and positive thoughts 💜🫶🏻🎄💜🫶🏻🎄
Hi Mike and Merry Christmas🎄. You and 130 had me on the edge of my seat. For a second there I though she was a bull charging you! Then when she fell, I was really concerned. As always you did the right thing handling her with kid gloves. I hope that she is feeling better soon. Maybe a few pieces of cake would be a good Christmas present for her so that she will not be so mad at you.
Danger Dan the Cattle Man. Holy CHIT, Mike! You take us right into the mud the blood and the beer. Great editing. I'll try to find a pattern for that 4-Wheeler seat. Thanks for sharing. -EZ
Mike, i know this video is old, butt i have a couple of questions. Do you always work by yourself? have you thought about getting a gopro attached to your chest? working with just one hand with ur cow's can get crazy..
Hi Mike, Another great video. I always enjoy watching our Wyoming life and love seeing your interactions with all your animals.I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas, all the way from Manchester U.K x
When any animal is in pain, they are going to act different same as people. Hope she gets better. Merry Christmas to all. God bless people and animals.
That ArrowQuip setup is pretty cool. You probably have done so in the past, but can we see a drone view of that? So many corrals and such you can configure.
Hi thanks for sharing another great video and i hope everyone/everything go good for the holidays have a wonderful Merry Christmas🎄🎄🎄 see you all next time on Our Wyoming Life❤❤❤🎄🎄 hugs and prayers everyone
Your determination to get her all the way to the shoot from the pasture and her determination not to cooperate made for a very good learning experience. Job well done. Have a very blessed holiday and a happy new year.😊
Merry Christmas Mike and Family! Thank you for this past year, letting us tag along for another one. Looking forward to all the new adventures 2024 will bring, praying for you guys, your Ranch, Animals, Business aspects but most of all for a prosperous, peaceful, adventurous, gentle and HEALTHY New Year. @Jeff, should you see this Merry Christmas to you as well. Looking forward to seeing you before we know it.
Was busy with all the family that came from out of town for Christmas so sitting here relaxing after the chaos of the day & oh my was she mad!! But y'all took care of business like the pro y'all are! Hopefully she'll feel better very soon. Merry Christmas to the gang at OWL! 🎄🎁🌟🎅
Well I was glad you didn't get injured, I never liked it when a cow charged me. She really didn't want you to mess with her, those are the ones we cull, can't have an injury. That said, you did good getting her in and treated, but please be safe with her, good luck. I want to wish you and all your family and friends a Merry Christmas.
Mike do you ever use a dart gun? Just thinking that it would allow you to give meds in the field from distance keeping you both safe. It might not be a full dose of medication but even a half dose would have helped take some pain away and possibly made moving her a little better
Hey Mike it looks like this cow has some swelling on her right cheek area. Does she have an abcess? That could contribute to her fever. Merry Christmas from Rawlins WY
I was looking forward to seeing the underside of her Hoofs, although I see that she has been on pasture a lot. We used to have problems with our cows that spent half their time on Concrete, and needed to be trimmed often.
Good afternoon,,,,,Just a note about dead battery on 4wh...You know there is a pull cord on the inside, you don't need a battery to start...Or at least mine does..Thanks Hencle
It really was a great plan Mike, but then....Murphy showed up! I was getting pretty concerned for you because she WAS NOT playing. She was pissed and that parting look says she is going to remember you. 😠😠😄😄
I'm confused, I thought this cow was going to be culled from the herd due to the abscess/boney growth on her face. Didn't she just get treated for a tooth root abscess and in that video didn't he say she was being culled? She's had multiple issues and is dropping weight rapidly, I'd really be worried about her being able to eat and produce a healthy calf.
Question, Mike: as the kids get older will they be joining you and Erin in the responsibilities and functions on the ranch? As an example, helping to gather the cattle with Jeff gone and learn the animal husbandry aspect of ranching?
That was well handled. You stayed calm and safe throughout. The chute system certainly gives you a safer working space than what my friend has here in Scotland. It's a small hill farm with mainly sheep and only thirty beef cattle. If he needs to examine one of his cows it has to be put into a corner of a barn and roped in. His cows are all placid but could hurt him obviously if there was something which upset them. Hopefully that cow gets a full recovery from whatever has affected her leg.
Could the abscess on her face have anything to do with her fever or limp? I know with deer, if they get injured in certain areas it effects there antlers in certain ways.
Thanks for sharing your videos. She certainly wasn’t very happy with you. Do you ever use a hoof trimmer to tend your cows. I’ve been watching The Hoof GP channel for some time and even looking at the bottom of a cows hoof it isn’t always obvious what’s happening but he certainly seems to be usually spot on. I’m confident he’s not the only hoof trimmer in the world, seems like a more common job in the UK. You might find his channel interesting if you have time to check it out. Not sure if he still does but he used to have an online class for hoof trimming. Wishing you and your family the best and a Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you Mike & Erin and the kids! To Kari and Ranch Hand Jeff too! 🎄🎅🎄 Mike, you definitely had a mean one on your hands today. I hope once the meds kick in and start helping it will calm her down. I know how hard it was on my own father and us kids were guaranteed working Sundays in castration of the pigs. Some cattle too, but yeah she was coming in hot for you Mike. It would hurt too. I've been lucky all these years, I was raised with using cattle prods too. Funny how that some of the tools we had back then are considered wrong by people who have never even seen one, dealt with livestock or anything. I laugh at some. My Grandpa was a Vet so I still use his advice today. It has never failed me. Lots of love and hugs to you all! 🥰🐮
Dang Cow, Rancher Mike just wants to help you! Oops, poor dear😮. She wants a piece of you😡! I hope the best for her🫢. Merry Christmas Mike and Family Keri and Jeff too! 🎄🌟🎅. JO JO IN VT 💞☃️

Just what I was thinking lol!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Mike and the crew @ OWL. I've enjoyed every single video this year. Keep them rolling Jimmy from Va.
