    He is one of the greatest anti-hero's in our clubs history. You can't help but love him, he's built differently with that old-school grit and values. It just gets misunderstood by his passion. I absolutely love Granit for that. He’s the first to run when a fight breaks out between an Arsenal player and opposition.
      During last few 6 years it’s been vexing me how little support Arsenal players provided for each other on the pitch. Xhaka was the only one! I remember once (cannot remember against whom) he got swarmed by the entire opposition team and still didn’t back down! Haven’t gotten fully through ur vid yet, but one thing Xhaka has done that isn’t brought up until he gets one, but him eradicating some of the iffy redcard-ish challenges he’d lung into is brilliant. They weren’t dirty, we all just know that refs are looking for any reason to send him off. Such a important cog in this team! Go on Granit!

    • @GamerFlair
      @GamerFlair Год назад +2

      Mikel did that. The whole reason why Xhaka used to end up doing that is because there was no defense and no defensive midfielder. It meant he was having to try and chase people down in the midfield, which he isn't good at. In that situation, his heart was bigger then his skillset and it meant he would commit to stopping the attack... and it would end badly.
      But Partey does that role now. Mikel doesn't put him in the situation where he has to do that, which means he doesn't get frustrated and feel he has to commit to a challenge that is beyond him.

    Xhaka has always been one of my favorites. I would slightly change what you said about him rising and falling with the team. He has been a leader and willing to be the one to shoulder that load alone, good or bad, in previous seasons. When we weren’t doing well, it was too much and it brought out in him the occasional rash tackle (he then got a bad reputation with refs).
    Arteta was the first coach to see past his reliability and leadership and play him the way he thrived which was his Switzerland national team position. After this adjustment he is thriving and becoming an Arsenal legend. Anyone who attacked his family or went beyond criticizing his job needs to look in the mirror.
    Hope Xhaka sees this great video on him. It’s a wonderful tribute.
    Just found your videos and love them. Keep up the great work

      First things first…
      Granit was never a DM and never will be! He filled in because his coaches have asked him to and he’s a true captain material, so he fills in.
      Secondly, he was telling the likes of Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacca etc the truth to their faces! They were being fanciful and extremely wasteful in front of the goal. Another true captain treat.
      AFTV is not a stickyard to measure how Arsenal fan base feels about our players!

  • @jav6713
    @jav6713 Год назад +15

    Let's be honest, football fans are not the fairest fans. The whole problem with Xhaka started with the fans always pointing at him despite the fact that the level of the entire team was quite low and sending very inappropriate messages about his wife and their kid, it's normal for Granit to get angry and drop his performance. But now that things are going well, the fans act as if nothing had happened. The same with Arteta, a year and a half ago people wanted him fired, now he is the best coach in football history.
    I have the feeling that the Arsenal fans only move towards extremes (hot take: AFTV, who need this type of attitude to live, has too much power among the fans) and this is not a healthy attitude for us or for the club. It's okay to live a sport intensely but you don't have to go crazy either.

    • @007feck
      @007feck Год назад

      I think it’s just that you are *viewing* the extremes by watching extreme channels. “Most” Arsenal fans are probably normal - but that wouldn’t get views on RUclips - so you mistakenly start to believe that the things you watch are representative of the main - but that’s false.

      @@Jedimack7 if i remember correctly - Arsenal needed a goal in that game - and Xhaka was taking too long to stroll off the pitch for a sub. I actually think a lot of supporters might have originally been trying to shout at him to hurry up off the pitch, rather than wasting time... (i myself felt this way, that he should have hurried off quicker)... the shouts of frustration may have then been taken over by the mob into a boo... (like a pantomime villain)... it looks bad... and xhaka being the passionate and thick skinned guy he is - displayed that he is not soft... i think it looked and sounded worse than it actually was... but hey - yes, the emirates crowd are a better representation than an extreme youtube channel... either way - i now love the redemption of Xhaka - and i hope his 34 shirt becomes historic if we manage to win the title... he is better now because he is an attacking player... can you imagine we started playing Odegaard as a full back, or a Defensive midfielder - he wouldnt be playing to his strengths... that's what we were doing with Xhaka for years... Arteta has a better view of his strengths and weaknesses - and now we have this fantastic version of Xhaka...

    A comment about 'Just like Mercury' analysis. I think it's actually the exact opposite. Xhaka brings 100% commitment no matter what the rest of the team is playing at - so when Arsenal are firing on all cylinders, he is the glue that keeps us ticking and our high press means that he ends up comfortably sweeping up in the midfield and even making lungbursting runs into the box from time to time. But when we are lagging and the game is getting away from us he is still playing Granit Xhaka football, and he ends up lunging in to cover the gaps. That's the reason for the cards - it's not that he's having a fit or whatever. He is the same - its the situation around him that is different. I watch this team week in week out and i can tell you without reservation that I have never been disappointed to see Granit in our starting team.

    Always rated him. He fought hard for his place in the squad and always gave 100% go back and read the early articles in 2017 same story. Honestly rarely has Arsenal signed absolute dud players, we're too critical of players these days. At the end of it, they're professionals who've reached the pinnacle of their profession. Sometimes players don't work out, and sometimes they don't reach their true potential but other times it's the right player in the wrong team and Arsenal has had a lot of them, the right player just in the wrong team, they go elsewhere and win.

    Good video, though I think it really boils down to one point. Xhaka is a classic case of a player being played out of position based on his obvious attributes. He's combative, industrious and a good long passer, so he was played as a defensive midfielder for basically his entire Arsenal career to this point. But he's not a good 6. Compared to Partey (an actual good, modern 6) he's slow, doesn't read opposition play well and is a poor dribbler. When he was at Monchengladbach, he played way further up the pitch and he was great, like he is this season. It reminds me of Utd trying to play Lukaku as a target man because he's a big unit. Good on Arteta for giving Xhaka the chance to play up to his strengths.

Having Partey gives Xhaka the license he needs to go forward and take him out of defensively pressurized situations,which is where he used to make mistakes and lose his head. Partey is calm and more suited that the CDM role, and I think they belong in a team together. Whereas before I would have said it was Partey or Xhaka in a team,now I would say we need Partey and Xhaka.

    It makes me feel better that we at least tried to sign Kante. I thought it was insane that we didn't try to sign him and went for Vardy when we clearly had a massive hole in defensive midfield for years

    Completely off topic but you probably noticed it - the end of the palace game Arteta played a completely different formation. So two questions
    1) Do you think it was a formation of convenience as we are short on numbers
    2) Did you see how much more central Saka was in this formation at times - could that be a sign of his future? As at 21 he is getting better at going both ways and could do damage in that centre position

      I think Saka will become more central as time goes on, yeah

    Arteta give a chance to everyone, including Ozil, Aubameyang, Pepe not just Xhaka. Xhaka deserve so much respect despite being hate by the fans, he accept the challenge and turn the table.

    Respect = training hard and winning games; he could tell my mum to eff off and I wouldn’t care as long as he helped us win 👍
