I’m currently in a world of pain and frustration with a bolt stuck in female axle and I don’t understand the supposed mechanics of the 3rd tip on this otherwise very clear and concise video of high quality typical of the author. What does tightening the other side on the fork help, when it’s that side that will open first when applying torque to the other side? It’s no different from trying to do this with no fork leg in between the non-problematic bolt and the axle.
Thank you so much. I totally forgot that there were allen key slots on the axle. Might explain why the axle was spinning in the dropout as soon as I tried to tighten it down. 😅
Love you bro you helped me fix my hub all the bike shops said it was in possible to fix it alls I had to do is change the spring but the hub didn’t want to come of thanks
holy crap u saved my ass within the first 1 min :D just with saying that some axles have allen key holes to prevent it from spinnig through, just got my brand new profile mini wheel and wasnt able to remove the Cone Nut and was going crazy about XD (wanted to install a Hubguard). Puting the axle in the dropout actually helped me out a lot. I never would have thought of that. Also I'm commenting for he giveaway lol I could always use more filming gear if I plan o start my own channel soon
I have a question. I recently bought a wheel with a profile elite front hub. It comes stock with a 14mm aluminium axle. It says on the website that it is not suitable for heavy park or street use. My question is how durable is it? How much abuse will it take? Should I just switch it out for a chromoly one straight away? What are the strengths of each? Aluminium, chromoly, and titanium. Any advice you could give me would be a great help. Thanks in advance
I wouldn’t worry about it. Most people run the stock axle and never have a problem. If you’re really worried about it, a chromoly one is stronger. But the aluminum fronts really don’t break that often
@@Brant_Moore thanks for the advice. I've searched and there isn't any videos pertaining to axle material and durability except of course your planetary free coaster axle video. Wouldn't be a bad topic for a Tuesday Tip. I'd watch it. I'd be interested to know what the weight ratings and abuse each type of axle material is capable of.
I was involved in an accident and both of my pegs snapped off leaving the axle in the hub and I got the 9 tooth off, but I can't get the lugnut off. Can you give me a suggestion
I have a question. on my spare rims they are FA.. whenever I try to take the back off no matter what I do, if i unloosen one side it tightens the opposite side then Vice verses.. I even used the 22mm wrench like you said to help but the only thing that does is loosens up the side the 22 wrench is on.. So my question is how do I get the stuck side out?
Have you tried using a socket or wrench on both sides at the same time? So that it cant tighten or loosen itself on the opposite side? Its hard to visualize whats going on without seeing it but that might help.
@Brant_Moore yeah I've tried everything nothing helps, best way to explain is my drive side won't unloosen once it's tighten. if I loosen the other side then try to loosen the drive side it just spins the whole axle. it's like it is locked in, even tried lubing it up once I got it off
Hey....I can't find any videos on youtube that explain which direction jam nuts with grooves should be used for bmx wheels....On my wheel, after the bearings, I have two lock nuts with grooves on one side, on both sides of the wheel. Which direction should the grooves face? I think these jam nuts are there to prevent the bearing from being turned..but I can't even find a video that explains how to use jam nuts with grooves on each side....
These are good tips. I have a front threaded hubguard that I haven't been able to get off my bike for a while now and I think your female front wheel tip might work for me.
Thanks man 👍🏼 Could not get both female nuts off front wheel. It was a brand new complete and I only could get one or the other off. Not both. The attach one to one side of fork worked like a charm. You rock. Thanks 🙏🏼
Would it work if I put a spanner on the jam nut on the drive side (the one I’m struggling to get off) and another spanner on the opposite side jam nut, would that stop the axle spinning (it spins with the nut I’m trying to remove), I want to ask before I try it incase I damage anything
If the wheel isn't on the bike the side that isn't stuck will likely loosen before the side that is stuck. If you have the wheel on the bike with the side that isn't stuck tightened down with an axle nut, yes putting 2 spanners on the jam nuts could help loosen the stuck jam nut. If they are skinny enough to get them in there with it on the bike.
I have a question if you got the time. I have been stupid and tighten one of my axle nuts so hard that it wont come off like on your at 4:47. I do as you show in the video, but the axle only spins so the loose nut comes off again. The one thats stuck stay stuck. Hope that's somewhat understandable. Any suggestions?
So if I’m understanding right, the wheel is on the bike with one side stuck? If that’s the case the only thing I could thing of is what you have probably already done would be to tighten the other side as hard as possible then trying to loosen the other side. Or get a pipe to extend your wrench as much as possible
Hehe yeah. I was supposed to put on hub guards and somehow I ended up (stupid as I am) tightening the shit out of the one side. So I couldn't get the axle nut loose to put the wheel back on. So then I tried your trick with one side screwed to the bike. But when I try to loosen the stuck axle nut (the one hanging out and of the bike like yours) the axle just spins and loosen the nut thats keeping the wheel hanging to the bike. The nut thats not stuck.
If you have enough axle left over put another axle nut on and tighten it against the one that keeps loosening. That should keep it from loosening itself
