  • A solo travel vlog sharing my experience as a backpacker and hitchhiker exploring, wild camping and meeting people in Saudi Arabia.
I boarded a ferry in Egypt that took me to Duba, a small port town in Saudi Arabia where ai got stranded at the border all day and nearly all night. I ended up stealth camping in an abandoned building before splashing out on an expensive hotel room the following day. washed and rested, I began to hitchhike across the country, making it almost all the way to Medina before wild camping by the road and finishing the journey the following morning.

    Welcome to Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦

*First, you are welcome in Saudi Arabia, and of course you are not a stranger. You are among your family and brothers. Second, why sleep on the street? You didn't have to do that. It would have been better for you to knock on the door of the house of any Saudi citizen and ask him for permission that you are staying in his house. He will welcome you and be happy that you are his guest and you will see the extent of Arab generosity.*

you should not sleep in the street man, Saudi people are very nice and generous, if you knock any door you will find many will be happy to help.

First, welcome to Saudi Arabia, and we hope that you will be comfortable on your trip. Secondly, there are several observations in the way you travel in Saudi Arabia, including that you do not use technology and applications to obtain services such as housing, where you will find at good prices many hotel options in Booking and others. For transportation and taxis within cities, as well as for travel between cities, there are many applications such as Uber, Bolt, and Jeeny within cities, and sair, rehla, and kadad applications for intercity cars and saptco for intercity buses, and we do not have a culture of intercity transportation by riding with passing cars and trucks, so you find everyone surprised by The presence of a person walking on his feet on a travel road and stopping cars to ride with them, in addition to that this is irregular and entails a traffic violation for the driver, in addition to that you are not supposed to sleep in the streets and deserted places such as the homeless, because that is not civilized at all and we do not have homeless people at all Finally, it was wrong to accuse those people you said of chewing drugs without knowing what they really do, because what they chew is tobacco like that in smoke, but it is cheaper and is commonly used among Indians, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis.

Thank you for your comment Ahmed. I know I have chosen a particularly challenging way to travel but I really enjoy it! For sure would be easier to use official transport and accomodation. But I prefer a challenge and is a great way to meet people.

Thank you Michael :) yes must say the wild hammocking is one of my favourite bits- when its a good spot that is! Recently I was staying with some guys from pakistan that had given me a lift and I really wanted to sleep outside in the hammock but they were shocked and just point blank insisted I slept inside xD was still very comfy but nothing beats the fresh air and sway

What are you mumbling about such misinformation? There are Taxis in Saudi Arabia
Recently they changed their colors, they are green now, they're just sometimes hard to find in the desert

Nice episode, as always. It's pretty hard to get used to this different definition of "time", punctuality and reliability with appointments. As a german this is deeply ingrained in my DNA and it gets really frustrating travelling those countries from time to time^^ Nevertheless once you accept it simply as part of another culture and not "bad behaviour" it gets easier to bear.

    • @FreddieWanders

yeess bro you know it xD is so difficult to play it cool, does stress me out being late for things. This whole laisse faire does not exist in our world, let alone the big cities. You are right it has gotta be down to acceptance I guess

Hello Yousef thank you for your comment, I hope you are well. It is a tough question, there have been quite a few. I think I was particularly overwhelmed by the generosity in Allbania but perhaps just because it was the first time I really encountered it. Overall I would say Iraq is the front runner with Saudi in a close second. But the whole arab world is up there.
