They wanted to portray "man attracted to whaman cause whaman stronk and hot and men only think with dicc hurr durr" rather than "Boy is a misogynist, is humbled by the Kiyoshi Warriors, decides to join them, learns to respect the strength of character of Suki and lets go of his prejudice, and is later rewarded by Suki who decides to show him his feminine side, and they naturally develop a relationship later in the series". And Suki is exactly the same, she ends up appreciating Sokka when he shows humility and kindness, not because "huh shirtless guy hot, me want, coochie tingles!". The writing in this show is so absolutely infantilized and neutered it's INFURIATING. The original show is a masterpiece that can be appreciated by everyone, has a deep and mature narrative that even many adults can learn from, while this... this is a disgrace. They completely missed the point, and it's a shame cause the actors are clearly talented and passionate and excited to do their best. Unfortunately the scriptwriters were handled something they absolutely don't understand, and ended up making it basic and soulless. And then they wonder why AI is going to replace them. What an absolute disgrace... I ain't watching another minute of this travesty.

Tbh I think people are overreacting to some of these changes. Personally I thought even without the sexism arc he had with Suki and Kyoshi Island they did a good job at incorporating other character traits like his engineering, creativity, and leadership roles for team avatar. I don't think you NEED the sexist part of his character to tell his story and they did a good job without it. Is Sokka exactly the same as the show? No, but I don't think the series should be exactly the same as the original. Besides Kyoshi Island we literally don't see that side of Sokka for the rest of the show so to me everyone is overreacting.

Some of the points you make in this comment I agree with later in the video. HOWEVER, if you are going to introduce Sokka and Sukis relationship earlier on and give it significant 1:1 screen time, you have to lead into it and give it a reason for happening. They turned Sokka into the rizzler and de-badass’d Suki to make it where the mom is forcing her to be a warrior and she just likes Sokka for no reason. The writers are attempting to make them more like real life teenagers but the sexiest arc for Sokka was huge positive charachter development for him that also gives a reason to have Sokka and suki interact. They’re scenes together in the show seem forced and come out of no where. The way they did it takes away from both there characters in ways that make them what they are in the show. It also changes subtle but major interactions/traits for their and other characters later in the show constraining on what they are going to be able to include. If you write off and choose not to include certain things fine, but don’t write yourself into a corner where now you can’t include certain things because of bad writing choices from the 1st season… okay I’m done :)

@@J2ATVMAIN Maybe it's just me but I personally don't mind writing off the sexist arc since it really only shows up in that episode. The episode where Sokka is over protective can still happen because of what happened with "Moon Girl" (Can't spell her name) so it's not like they're writing themselves in a corner.
I don't want the show to be word for word the original avatar the last airbender. My philosophy is if you're going to make changes, make it make sense. I just feel like for the most part the show did that and I'm happy with how it turned out (for a live action adaptation). Is it perfect definitely not but none of the changes really hurt the characters.

@@gameknotz3602 People keep saying that "its not the original series and I dont want it to be the exact same" which is cool. But that doesn't mean we just accept bad changes either. Also, sexism is a constant re-occuring theme and arguably the biggest point for Sokka's character development in the whole series. You would be cool with them leaving off the space sword episode for him with the logic you just said.

@@J2ATVMAIN I loved the cartoon. I compared the series to The Amber Island Players. That episode in the cartoon was great but how GAANG said it horrible. I thought the same of the Live Action version.

I don't have any problem with sokka .. all my problem with suki before she started to train sokka (actually i have a problem here too they are overreacting and take too long time to fix their position .. it feels like the director telling me they are in relation you stupis blind!! ).. i don't know but every moment was awkward .. she was appeare to sokka from nowhere and do nothing.. no talk , no action.. it makes me nervous tbh 😂

yes they turned Sokka into the rizzler and didnt allow for their relationship to develop. They just made Suki and angsty teen who is curious about boys and wants to rebel against her mothers ways. That is not Suki bruh
