What’s next on the list?
Iceland 🥶
You’ve gotta come back and try Angelo’s on 9th street, you will not be disappointed!! Try one with Cooper sharp, onions and mushrooms🤤
He said they were closed 😢
100% agree about Angelo's. Donkey's in Camden is a must try as well but it's not a "Philly" cheese steak
Love your videos and your happy attitude, thank you for your efforts in making these fun videos man.
Compared to her he's the greatest attitude of all time.
What a fun video! I really liked your interview on Hodinkee as a newer watch enthusiast myself. I’ve noticed you’re collection growing; would love a video about the current state of your collection!
Loving your videos , I’m from the United Kingdom and I’m Visiting NYC in March 2023 so I’m binge watching your videos getting prepared for then :)
Listen!!! This video is AWESOME. makes me want to book a trip NOW. I'm always hesitant about the idea of whiz on a cheese steak. But when in Philly....thanks for the video Jon. It's great.
Whiz is way too salty and sucks on a steak sandwich. maybe if you cut it with a different cheese.
John, thanks for this video! I’m visiting Philly next month.
P.S. You were totally right about Brooklyn’s Bagel Hole. Best NYC bagel I’ve ever had.
Awesome video Jon. Might try some of these spots
My buddy is born and raised in Philly, and he swears by John's! Hope to see a part 2!
Hey Jon I feel like if I move to NYC one day it will be a blessing because I will be close to major cities like Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington DC. I know where to go for a Philly cheesesteak when I'm in Philadelphia.
Wow, haven't been to Philadelphia in awhile. These spots look amazing! I remember the last time I went by Jim's I had to walk past because of the long line.
Yah no line for us at all.
It's ActionKid! what's up man?
you two have to get together at some point this year to do a video somewhere!
well you don't *have to* but it would be really cool to see it.
:)) Cheers! Best wishes to you doing your thing in Miami.
Jim’s had a really bad rat problem
it's worth the wait. great steaks with friendly and patient staff.
Very useful, as always!
Great review, guys. We went to Philly for the first time last year. Day 1 was the obligatory Pat's and Geno's. Day 2, we tried a place called Cleaver's in Rittenhouse square that was surprisingly incredible. So good that one day we decided to order lunch to go and bring it back to our hotel. Lots of other food to explore in that general vicinity too.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
cleavers is legit
@@madmax18840 Thanks for the validation, Max!
I’m a fan of Ishkabibble’s; I was too hungry to wait in line at Jim’s during my last visit to Philly, so I went across the street. It was a good move on my part. Still have Jim’s on the list, as well as Steve’s, John’s, and D’allesandro’s, and now Woodrow’s.
That's the Ishkabibbles' that got the fame, not the one they went to, don't bother with Jim's but the rest of your list is on point !
Wowwwwwww! Very tasty!!!!! Thank you for sharing your stake with us!
Definite yes to the ketchup, chopped well with the cheese mixed in (american for me, hate places that just put it on the top or bottom). Obviously onions also, but I get mushrooms as well at times. So good!
Wtf yall are from the hood
Another hard day of eating there Jon? As someone who lives in England but has never visited Philadelphia before it was good to see your take on this classic Philly dish. Not really something we have over here. A meatball sub would be the closet. I just could not eat that Cheese that is used. It looks so cheap and fake to me but I am sure taste's nice. Good bread is a must to I would imagine. First place would be my favourite. Like your description of the last place. Classic Hangover food. Definitely want to visit Philadelphia some time. Great work again. Let's hope you get to 10,000 likes. Come on people.
You saving us a lot of time on our next trip!
Is ketchup on a cheesesteak really controversial? Born and raised in Philly and ketchup and Mayo have always been a must for me. Ishkabibbles is definitely my fave out of the touristy spots. The best cheesesteaks are found in the corner stores and pizza shops though.
Not for me. I’ve been eating them for 60 years. With ketchup.
Cheesesteak Mayo and ketchup is one of the most popular orders in Philly.
Ketchup on a Cheesesteak? Absolutely awful. What’s the point? You’re not enhancing the taste, your masking it.
Big facts!
@@69Muscle It definitely enhances it. You don't flood it with mayo and ketchup. Just a little of each.
Angelo’s in south Philly is pretty good. And if you are in the northeast, cafe Carmella comes close to Angelo’s. Cooper Sharp cheese with fried onions and long hots in a seeded roll is lit!
Greetings from old Europe! My food life can not be complete without trying different local versions of 1) Cheese steaks in Philadelphia 2) Beef sandwiches in Chicago. Its only a matter of time....only a matter of time. Did I say its only a matter of time?
There is one place here in Western PA that makes great Philly chicken subs and definitely don't want whiz it's great with provolone but thank you for the great video maybe when I try the beef the cheese whiz will be okay but I prefer the chicken
I'm watching this at 7 am while drinking my coffee before I head to work ........ I'm starving right now wanting a cheesteak for breakfast right now! .......damn!
Philly is the sandwich capital of the world not just a cheesesteak capital! I really enjoyed this video Jon !
Oh yes for usre.
Yeah not even close pal. But keep that delusion going in your mind. 😂
Ishkabibble’s is bomb though! Had it last year when I went to Philly, no complaints! ✊🏾
I love your vidéos bro love what you do that can help many people and if you can of cours doing a video about hotels in Manhattan whith medium prices. Hope you have a nice days
A delicious video!
I had my Philly cheesesteak at a place in the Reading Terminal.
👌🏻👌🏻
I'm from da Bronx but my loyalty for Jim's is unwavering. Those Brothers at Jim's got the Philly cheesesteak midas touch. I love wiz, ketchup & mayo on my cheesesteak
Man that takes me back. When I was a teen, Jims Wiz Wit is that absolute best. Can't be beat. There's a LOT of great steaks in Philly though. Can't go wrong, but yeah....Jims hands down.
I agree
Jim's is truly the best
Had a cheesesteak from Jim's Steaks at their Philadelphia airport location... Was so delicious
omg ishkabibbles finally getting some love! so underrated. glad u went to Jims
Love your videos bro
You brought me to NYC now imma head to Philly to try this awesomeness, if I do recall you have a video where Philly is one of NY's best closest destination to visit via train.
Yeah 1:05 to 1:20 by amtrak.
U inspired us so we attempted to find the perfect Philly cheesesteak
Oh boy all of these sandwiches are driving me crazy right now I need one now🤣🤣🤣🤣
Steve’s Prince of Steaks
is #1
I went to philly January 2021 and I tried Larry’s steaks cause that’s where my idol Kobe Bryant loved to eat his cheesesteaks and they named a special after him. And then I tried Jim’s. I was very impressed and liked both. Jim’s was more surprising cause of that cheeze wiz sauce. Doesn’t look good but taste great: I enjoyed it.
Watching this now since I'll be heading to Philly in a couple of months. Seeing Ben in the clip, it really hit me and I can't believe he's not with us anymore. This was shot only one year ago..RIP Ben. We miss you. 😢🤍
Going home next weekend and Jim’s is always my first stop after I land at Philly International.
jims burned down im pretty sure...
Nicely done Jon. I especially like the fact that your going out of your comfort zone so to speak to try classic cuisines from neighboring cities. Pardon my ethnicity, and I know I'll catch hell for this from the Philly crowd, but I would get the steak less the cheese. I still think it would be an enjoyable sandwich. Keep up the good work. This is gonna be a banner year for you. Send my best to Adriana. Your friend Mike.
Thanks
It’s not as good without cheese. It’s actually kinda dry.
Very informative Jon, will try with ketchup next time!
hahaha
Ketchup is pretty standard in Philly, not sure why they would say controversial.. I personally go Mayo/Ketchup. Give that a try next time.
If you come back you have to try Phillips on passyunk. My favorite growing up
Wow! I was just there this past Monday. Visited Philly for the first time, just missed you. I went to Jim's & Woodrow's. Didn't care for Jim's, lacked flavor plus got it with prov. Woodrow's with wiz was really good.
Philly Cheesesteak brings the memory of me driving 1984 Chevy Celebrity on NJ Turnpike for a day trip to North Philly with 2 car seats in a back seat and a playpen in the trunk 😁 to visit our friends. Nandor will great us with a bottle of Stoli on the table and Philly Cheesesteak’s😄. This was the first time I tried it.👍
Been living 18 miles out for all my life, in between Trenton & Philly on the PA side. The schools ones sucked, first time I ate more than 3 bites (would bit my dad’s & sister’s cheesesteaks when they got one) I was maybe 18, Sunny’s on 2nd & Market by Penns Landing. Only time I decided to eat one bc the school one was so so bad.
Hey so i got a few questions and hoping you can help me lol. what's the best way to get from rockeller center to empire state building. or flatiron to empire state state building?
What a yummy video. Great adventure thanks for taking us along but you do know videos like this drive us vegan folks crazy lol. Keep cranking out interesting videos. Still love to see one on calzones n knishs
Bill in Fort Wayne Indiana
Woodrows is still open!! def one of the best and I use to be a Jim’s person…the truffle cheez wiz whew
Hi Jon; I'm a new fan of the channel, and I don't know if you ever talked about this (and if it's a dumb question), but I got curious about how it was living in NJ, watching NY in the distance?
Woodrow's Cubano sandwich is also a must try
Thought be Pat’s vs Geno’s rivalry but Jim’s also classic! Funny how they all so personal (ends with ‘s).
👌🏻👌🏻
Jon: "Today we're going to visit the best reviewed cheesesteak spots"
Me: "They'd better be going to Jim's"
Jon: "Jim's Steaks!"
I'm hungry lol. Put ketchup on whatever you want, I'm Mexican and I cry everytime someone puts lettuce or tomatoes or even worse: sour cream, on tacos but it's what it is, we all enjoy food differently 🤭.
Now I want one!
;)
Woodrows on south street is my pick of the places of your video
Hi there! I love watching your videos and they have helped me a lot on the trip I am on right now in New York. Do you have any cheesecake recommendations in the theater district, manhattan, or in soho? We went to junior's because of the reputation but it wasn't the best. Thank you so much! And if you could reply as soon as you can as I am leaving nyc on wednesday, that would be great. :)
You need to do
Steve's, delassandros, Tony Luke's, and Joe's in fishtown you would have to visit different neighborhoods but it would be a really cool video and see lots of different takes on everybody's favorite
Just wait til you try a cheesesteak from John's Roast Pork!
I want to try Ishkabibble’s whenever I have the chance to visit Philly again
You guys did it right! Unfortunately you went on a Monday and John's Roast Pork (THE BEST cheesesteak in the city) and Angelo's was closed. You gotta go back for a part 2! I like Ketchup (converted also), but only to dip it in. I own a second condo in Philly and go there once a month just to eat Philly food haha. I wouldn't be good on camera, but would love to take you places!
Top 5 Cheesesteaks:
1. John's Roast Pork: Def try the Cheesesteak there. Also get a Roast Pork too.
2. Woodrows: Love the Cheesesteak too. You guys missed out not getting cheese fries from there.
3. Jim's: Really like it as well, sometimes get the double meat haha.
4. Angelo's: Awesome bread, love their Chicken Parm sandwich also.
5. Dalessandro's Steaks: Well worth the drive there. Huge steaks!
Top 5 Other Philly Foods:
1. Tommy DiNick's (Terminal Marketplace): Def get the Roast Pork, cheese and broccoli rob. Also try the Brisket w/ cheese. You'll thank me later.
2. Ma Lessie's Chicken & Waffles (Terminal): The best fried chicken and sides. Strawberry lemonade is awesome as well.
3. Hershel's East Side Deli (Terminal): Awesome Rueben Sandwich! Be sure to get that. My brother loves their Rachel. Love their Matzah Ball soup also.
4. Food Cart (8th and Spruce): Sausage egg and cheese on a long roll with ketchup (this I do put it on haha) and salt and pepper. Get one every time I go!
5. Hunger Burger (Terminal): Always get the Philbert Burger, do a double (no tomato, it makes it way too messy) is my go to burger there. They got a great breakfast burger too. Great cheese fries, mac & cheese too.
Honorable Mentions:
1. Famous 4th Street Cookie Company (Termainal): Always get their Chocolate Chipped Dipped cookie for desert after eating at the Terminal Marketplace. Their regular chocolate chip, M&M cookies are great too. Hope's also in the Terminal makes great cookies.
2. Ralph's Italian Restaurant: Oldest Italian restaurant in the city. Great spaghetti and meatballs.
3. m2o Burgers & Salads: Great burgers there too, cheese fries and shakes.
4. Wawa: You gotta try getting some stuff from Wawa. Great cold hoagies, hot subs, burgers (yes I said burgers), fries, mac & cheese and more.
If you need a place to stay, hit me up! You're gonna gain 5 pounds at least next time you go haha. I always do.
Love me some wawa
IMO Tony Luke’s is the best, but you’ll need to drive there. Campos or Sonnys are good if you’re in the Old City. If you go to Jim’s, walk up two blocks to see the Larry Fine mural, then check out some of the cool shops and cafes in Queen Village.
One of my old friends always ordered his cheesesteak with mustard. RIP Dennis.
Ketchup? Well I dip mine in a meaty demi-glace or birria consomme, chutney, dhal or sambal, salsa, brown gravy, tonkatsu sauce, Korean gochujang sauce, traditional red gazpacho, a kind of rich mole..., so I should not complain 🙈🤣
hahahah
Zahav is my favourite place in Philly! If you go back check it out!
Philadelphia is full of surprises.
Definitely subscribed
Welcome to my city again. You gotta try Max's in Northeast Philly, D'allesandros in Roxborough & Gooey Louie's in South Philly
You are correct!!!!
Max‘s is pretty good, Just don’t go at night and bring a knife with you lol but definitely D’Alessandro’s is the best.
Thanks Martin!!
@@artmolina max is just as good
@@artmolina so true. I like the other Mac's on Oxford Avenue next to Chuck's Alibi
and we're hungry. again. ::cheesesteak for breakfast it is::
Thanks for posting. Looking good. No ketchup
I’ve had that Truffle Cheesesteak it really is an awesome sandwich. Try it and you will not be disappointed.
Steve’s, joes, John’s Roast pork. Make another and go to these 3. Original joes closes in September
Taking notes and putting pins on Google maps!
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I personally thought Steves is the best Cheesesteak. Its similar to Pats and Gino's in that the meat is sliced instead of chopped. Jim's was the first place I had one which was also good.
I agree with you. I live very close to a Steve's but I make a point to go to Tony Luke's before the game.. its simply not the same getting it at the game
Agree. Steve's prince of steaks is my favorite, but Jim's for the people watching...... just don't go to south st. At night.....
Spot on with those 3 , well done..
Thanks 👍
I’m glad to see you came to my city ❤❤❤and glad she showed you the real local places because us Philadelphians know Genos and pats are NOT it 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤣🤣 lol
Real rap we dont do that jawn pr any jawn that says “philly cheesesteak”
I enjoyed Woodrow's. Not my Number one but quite tasty
A buddy of mine who lives in Philly said Geno's and Pats is overrated and really just a spot for the tourist and the best place to get a cheese steak from is Max.
Dinic’s roast pork in Reading terminal.. hands down so much better then a cheese steak !!
The best hands down is The ThunderBird Diner in Broomall.
My husband and me are going to Philly next month so we definitely will need to choose from these 3 spots
I'll def save you some time! Go to Jim's first, then go to Campo's and then Delssandro's... I go to Philly all the time... These are the spots..
@@artmolina thank you so much for your expertise I was thinking of going to Jim’s first lol appreciate it 😎
no go to delassandros, angelos, and johns roast pork
If you want the best go to Steves original off cottman. If you like a bigger steak i recommend double meat at steves cause they can be on some hot pocket type that day.
@@MyKeeP81 I will deff try delssandro thanks
I grew up in Philly amd always out ketchup in my cheesesteaks…also hotdogs
Cafe Carmella in north east Philly on Holm Avenue.
I'm from Reading PA, about an hour or so north west of Philly. We have a place called Tack's sandwich shop. They use a catchup and tabasco sauce concoction. Personally, I'm not a fan of it. I'll eat it cold tho.
Other then that place Reading does pizza cheesesteaks, with American cheese, marinara, and topped with slices of dill pickles. I call it the Reading Cheesesteak. We don't call it a pizza cheesesteak in Reading, and you have to ask to hold the marinara sauce.
I personally like a cheesesteak on a hard roll, light onion and marinara sauce, with provolone cheese.
Took myself to Philly yesterday
Did pats and geno
Ate geno first then pats. Pats took it for me. Pats had double the line
When they first said ketchup on a cheese steak that sounded gross. But as soon as he said it was like a cheeseburger it clicked for me and I could definitely see how it would work. I'm going to give it a try when I go
It’s steak. Hell no. Ribeye too
@@scbs7768the texture is what makes the difference. They have wagyu burgers, are you saying you wouldn't put ketchup on those? It's not like eating a steak since the texture is completely different as is the fat composition once you grind or thinly shave the steak. A wagyu steak is heavily marbled and hence a lot of fat which is why it's actually not recommended to grind it down and use it for burgers since most of it cooks away. Look in the video, the cheesesteak doesn't look that far off from a cheeseburger which is why it's not ridiculously to think that ketchup could work
@@jopehope2949 first of all, wagyu isn’t a specific cut, it’s expensive because of the way the animal is raised. A burger made with wagyu is still ground beef not steak… secondly, no I probably wouldn’t. Tomato flavored sugar paste is for children. Thirdly, if you have to reach this hard to justify it then, you’re wrong.
@@jopehope2949 oh and fourth, I’m from Philly and you’re obviously not. Don’t ever try to tell me about cheesesteaks ever again.
Ketchup? That's nothing. If you really wanna put the Philly in a cheesesteak, put mustard on it
I've tried those and I live in philadelphia but my top favorites are dallasendros and Max's steaks then I like Jim's.
I was in Philly last year and got to try Jim's, Sonny's, Pat's, and Geno's. I think I liked Sonny's more than Jim's but Jim's was a close second. As for Pat's and Geno's, I can see why the locals in Philly call those places tourist traps. I've actually had better cheese steaks here in NY than at Pat's and Geno's. Also, I could never imagine putting ketchup on a cheese steak but I'd have to do it if I ever visited the last spot.
Don't knock it til you try it.
Ketchup is a must just saying…oh and mayo 🤤
I live in Philly and Pats and Genos are for tourist. They don't even crack my top 25 places for Cheese Steaks and Jim's don't crack my top 5. I know so many little stops in the city that blow all these places out the water. I'm a 6 foot 250lb Italian so I know a little about Cheese Steaks LOL.
@@anthonydisanto1546 that's what I'm talkinbout! I tell folks headin to Philly (I'm in MD now after 39 years in the 215, born an survived) to avoid the 3 tourist traps, Pat's, Geno's and Jim's and head to John's on Snyder across from Target (since they're comin up from 95 an Del Ave is an exit).
gotta go to both johns and angelos
How far is this place from citizens Bank Park?
Steve's Prince of Steaks in the notheast.... don't get bogged down with being "in the city".
Loveeeee a Philly cheesesteak. And hell yea to the ketchup too. Mix ketchup and Mayo together and put that ish on a cheesesteak, you’ll thank me later 👌🏾
Bold move haha
Go big or go home lol 😅
Now my picks are dallasandros. John's roast pork cheesesteaks. Angelo's pizza cheesesteaks. Max's. Larry's steaks. Kobe Bryant s favorite spot for cheesesteaks. Cleavers.
Wow. As a philly local jims and ishkabibbles are pretty much the best 2 in town
Yummm ishkabibbles whats goood
🙏🏻👌🏻
King of cheesesteaks lol we own the cheesesteak
How y’all not go to dellasandros lol
Got to stay consistent with the ordering so you can actually do a head to head comparison
Wow he reviews all the tourist locations how original surprised he didn’t go to the hack Gino or Pats Jims is the Place at the tourist trap locations
Grew up eating at Jim’s amd Ishkabibbles in the 80’s early 90’s…Ish used to be on South st and was more of a secret spot…cheese fries and the chicken cheese steak was always killer…Jim’s was always a good deal for us starving broke kids…I think a sandwich at Jim’s in the 80’s cost like 8 bucks…miss South st back when it was all punk rock amd skaters
8:14 "ethnic foods" lmao
Thank you for coming to my city and eating one of the best foods ever ...wish I could've enjoyed it with you guys..now I'm hungry just thinking about it lol
Thanks!!
You're welcome
