Incredible to think that back in 1999-2003 Dido was the biggest selling female singer/ songwriter in the whole world . Her first album sold 21 million albums worldwide her second was a close second ...then silence , two more records , getting married and having a child ..we are now in 2017. She still shines like a diamond , her voice is crystal ...You set the bar so high that quite possibly no-one will get up there again ...
The world was a more gentle place then, her amazing style would never make the same massive impact now. It would still be quite big but not the biggest selling thing in the world like it was in late 90s/early 00s.
This beautiful woman with the most amazing voice will never know how she kept me together in probably the darkest time of my life, I'm 61 now and still get goosebumps when I listen to her, if you ever read this Dido thank you x
Dido voice is unique and so is her music. The melody isn't something you hear everyday, it's something you can listen over and over and set you off into another world.
As an addict myself I understand this song so well... Basically this song is speaking through the drugs perspective, the drug is talking to the addict, and I love that.
This is a great song about either love or addiction, it depends on how you get the meaning of it. But let me tell you, this Live performance in Brixton academy is EPIC !!
Holy Shit... Back in 2005, I already heard here and there some Dido songs on the radio, but one night, out of the blue, one of the national TV channels here in Portugal had this full concert on their schedule and... oh boy... I had tears all the way this concert... Amazing performance. Whish I could be there.
"So...a lot of people thinks that the next song is a love song...so i apologize to anyone who used this at their wedding...'cause it was definitely the wrong song, ahm...its called "don't leave home" it's about ADICTION".......just....i thought it was about love...and...cute feelings...and....i was going to use it at my wedding so...fuck it HAHAHAHAHA. Awesome song, never thought you put so much energy in those holds...fucking awesome, thanks after 20 years. Miss your music so much.
Bref, mille fois bravo ! 🌷🌷❤❤😘😘👍
Don't Leave Home always reminds me of a very toxic relationship I had. This friend had a severe addiction problem (in addition to other mental health issues) and I got caught in a codependent relationship where I thought of myself as his savior and that I'd be the the one to make it all better for him. Silly me. I had just bought Life For Rent and one night I was in bed listening to it. This song was playing when the phone rang and it was him, crying and having a major meltdown, caused by drug abuse and his own paranoia. I got out of bed and took a cab in the middle of the night, traveled across the city I lived in, just to be there for him and the whole time this song played in my head. I stayed by his side for many days and nights, putting my own life and needs on hold just to support him and help him recover. There I was, losing myself because I thought I'd be his "safety". Eventually it all fell apart, I wised up to his manipulations, and I could not listen to this song for years. I was a lot older, wiser and more jaded when I listened to this song again and discovered what Dido really meant to say. I was shocked, but at the same time made perfect sense. So this song was closure to me in many ways, and the coincidence between my situation and the song was part of a bigger lesson that I needed to go through... and for that I'll always thank Dido.
uhhh so said. I think she makes memories with songs. It reminds me of the man who trully loved me, we used to listen together. and i turned out to be the bad one because i left him for very stupid things and i can't even undo it all. I am now forced to forget.
@@faithmokwena247 I think she sings from the heart and she has plenty of personal stories to tell in her song. For me, this song, See You When You're 40, End Of Night, and Day Before The Day really hit home. Your situation is somewhat close to what she sings about in White Flag. And yes, you have no choice but to learn your lesson and move on, just as she did. You still have a chance to find happiness with someone else and you won't make the same mistakes again. Best of luck!
Saw this show live in Vienna. 30 degrees hot even late night, fantastic atmosphere on castle Schonbrunn. I remember it sound exactly the same and crowd was amazing. Lifetime experience.
I think that the brilliant thing about this song is that while it was written from the point of view of addiction, it can also apply to a certain type of unhealthy relationship. It describes a relationship that is very fitting to be compared to an addictive drug; on that on the surface looks very pretty and at times certainly feels very good (especially in the beginning), but beneath the surface is actually very possessive, manipulative, and overly clingy. From that "drug"s perspective, much like a real drug, this possessive partner is making the partner they're singing to form a dependency on them under the guise of romance and taking care of their needs emotionally and physically, but in the times when things don't feel good are when the truth of the relationship are felt but like a dependency on a drug, can't be easily escaped. So yes, it does work as a love song... Describing a love that just like a drug addiction, leads to ruin in the long run. Not the kind of love you should want.
As I still remember that time, this was one of the songs that accompanied me in my adolescence after my father left and I felt that strange feeling like how to receive the new or something like "and now what" and since I heard This song by Dido immediately connected something with this melody and it is something out of this planet. The feeling is incredible, it is as if the soul every time I listen to this song tells me "please let yourself be carried away by this" and now in 2024 it is what same and after closing the cycle in a venue I was able to experience this once again as if something inside of your being wanted to ask for this song and I had a lump in my throat when I reflected on my life while listening to this classic once again more and it is my favorite song by dido and now for the first time I see her live and what energy it feels, I have no idea what will become of Dido now but I only wish her the best and thank you for this. 🙏
Sandra Martinez, tienes razón quizá un par por ahí pero como ella ninguno ❤️Dido❤️ es un serafin que vino a regalarnos su maravillosa música a este mundo canta preciosísimo

Holy shit she kills it. This is better than the studio version by a mile. That was awesome.
Dido was our "Adele" of 2000's (only less depressing lol)...I'm a metalhead but Dido's music has always been on my daily rotation...
And waaaay better to look at it must be said.
Jack F lmao
I like AC/DC but dido also
She still us My Adele in 2020 and yes lol not as depressing 💖
me too a tin head. talent is talent. dido oozes it in both vocal abillity and looks. god I bet she sings well in the shower. think about that. yeah.
The end is just perfection.. the drumming, how she holds that note.. so magical!
Oh Dido, this is perfection at best 😢

You don't hear that amazing tone to her voice in the studio recording this is amazing..
This Life for Rent album is one of favourite albums EVER!
Iife for Rent and no angel
Goosebumps when she smashes it at the end and one hell of a band the percussion is out of this world.
Very True!!
Wanna buy her a 200 year whisky so so beautiful.....😍🤩🥰🥳

Brilliant version, better than the album track. Love how much she puts into it at the end. And how perfect does she look at 2:50 😍
My friend Eduardo left the drug when he heard this song. Thanks Dido, owes it to you.
Still get chills listening to her and this song. Don't you love how a performer can Actually sing for real ? She puts Everything into this song.
Dido extra terrestre

It's real and creepy. Humans can be so exclusive, too.
This is the best version of an already amazing song! Damn, this gives me chills
Never gets old how I wish she’d bring new music out
My favorite Dido song...she's fantastic...and her band here are awesome!
The girl definitely has a voice. Owned a couple of her albums for years, but just found these Brixton videos. Lots of talent there.
So soothing, it's the presence of a perfection ❤️
the best singer EVER! It sounds even better than the recording in my opinion
Her voice is stunning! Probably one of the best pop singers out there:)
This is a great song about either love or addiction, it depends on how you get the meaning of it.
But let me tell you, this Live performance in Brixton academy is EPIC !!
Gustavo Reyes Tavera this song is both for me. I've felt love and addiction equally strongly.
it could be a serial killer song too
