I observed the behavior of this device in the air twice. In a word, this can be expressed as harmony. You have managed to create something that is in balance, very docile and with little drag.
That's a runway for brave pilots. I can't imagine how many planes are lost in those trees. How many hours, scratches and death defying struggles over cliffs and high up in trees we've had recovering planes from the bushland surrounding our field! Great vid and thanks from Sydney, Aust - Dave
I guarantee you there's still some planes in and around those trees. LOL :) Yeah, they're not all worth the scratches and the very real risk of snakes, ticks, yellowjackets and hornets at times. So I try to live by the motto "Crash CLOSE!"
Go for it! No sense walking a mile to pickup bits and pieces. Plus it's more exciting for the spectators if you splatter one all over the runway every now and then :)
I absolutely love the silent, momentum driven glide that it enters. That whoosh sound is just so cool. Also, I think the plane seems a bit underpowered. For all that noise from the motor, it sure isn't getting much speed...
mr amazing I agree, for such a large plane a tractor mounted prop would probably be better economically. Also a plane that size would have a hard time going racing speeds as I think finding a capable motor to do so would be hard. Maybe mount two pushers would help
The chord of that wing, and the weight and size... That thing just wants to float, and the motor can't push it any faster than it is. Fly it on a day with enough of a breeze, and it could hover or VTOL.
Its amazing how well it glides.. Can I know which airfoil did you guys used? I'm building a high swept wing which is supposed to be fast and have chosen HS 522. What should I choose if I need to make a slow wing like this with good lift?
So when are we going to see the next fly?? Perhaps with a 20 pound high definition camera!!! with all that wing area that plane will not even feel a heavy payload..
Very Cool! You going to put a camera on it? There is a guy who is going to build an airplane using hemp. What do you think of that? Do R/C modeler's use hemp in any of their designs?
They're some off the shelf electric retract Colton happened to have laying around. Fun Fact: The legs bent and on the next outing we almost lost the wing twice due to radio brownout (Before the circuit breakers on the retracts popped, each time). For subsequent outings, the retracts got their own battery :)
thanks for posting. nice work. here is a very very very late thought. the prop noise suggests, to me, that the Wrong TYPE of prop is being used. is it s-f. s-f stands for Slow-flyer. almost No one builds slow-flyers. Invest in some E props. cheers
It's intent was to be a "Mother Ship" for three other wings. Three of the smaller combat type wings fit. Two up top, one underneath. (Or vice-versa. Can't recall after we added retracts) Anyhow, we never got around to finishing it. Maybe some day.
Even if you carried even one combat wing a distance using the mothership, you'd have to fly it all the way home on its own, and it would need enough FPV xmit power to provide video at the max distance (or have auto RTL). I've seen one quad launch another one, but just as a goof.
FPV wasn't the thought, though that's cool :) The initial thought was a simple 4-pilot event demo. One giant wing takes off, does a circuit with mild aerobatics, then three smaller wings splinter off. All four do various aerobatics, formations, and/or perhaps a bit of combat. Good fun stuff, but we just didn't get to finish.
No, Colton designed it, and Dennis built it. I know Dennis had lots of notes on it, at one time, but there was never any formal build instruction or plans or anything like that... I don't think any of us even thought about that. It was just a silly idea I had, that these guys brought to reality. 😁
They're definitely not required. More to give a bit of side area to be able to do things like 4-point rolls. (Late in this second video: ruclips.net/video/aelqy6iIC0Y/видео.htmlsi=Jzjo8AqusKYspkZz) Quite honestly, they are more for protecting the wingtips than anything else... and to provide a bit more authority to the elevons in slower flight. But yeah, it would fly fine without them.
Maybe similar. This is definitely a one-off. Colton drew this one up mostly using the TLAR method I think. Maybe he will see and chime in some day. Then Dennis did all the hard work inside, with nothing much besides an idea of what we all wanted and some tried-and-true construction methods. And a 91" Extra's carbon wing tube plus a couple smaller tubes just for good measure :)

Dcam Chris Excellent mantra. Mind if I use it? :)

yeah, only a 14 inch prop.
Y13A that's because it's a pusher style wing

It looks underpowered, but it is large and hence looks slower in the air than it really is.
Would be my dream to FPV this massive wing. Great work mate.
That is an amazing aircraft and an even better pilot. I hope to be that good some day man.
Excellent model...great to see, well done guys

Lol yea
Absolutely smashing
Sweet birds wing 😊 makes me want to build mine. I've got the foam waiting
Nicely done gentlemen!!
Why are so many people complaining about the camera? He is just tracking the wing pretty well.
Not sure what gold standard people are expecting. Funnily enough RC enthusiasts send more time with RC aircraft than video equipment.
@@GruntyGame it's the same with every subject, the better the video quality, the worse the thing being filmed
Love it so much, good job mate
From rc cars to i think planes now. My god that is so cool.
Awesome flying and great wing :)
Impressive, especially the glide.
Dead stick landing..challenge accepted! Nice flying
Sounds cool as hell deadstick flyby at 1:00 to 1:10... "wooooooooooshshshshshshs..."
Jesus! That thing is pretty awesome! Good job guy!

Legend has it the birds are still complaining about the noise...
I love the retracts great idea, it makes me want a wing just like it, I see bombs drop in the future.
Man that is a sweet plane . the glide slope is well wow. lol
So when are we going to see the next fly?? Perhaps with a 20 pound high definition camera!!! with all that wing area that plane will not even feel a heavy payload..
Pretty cool - what's the wing area of that thing? How about the current draw in cruise?
Great man, subscribed, notification to keep track of your progress.
Very nice job. I have a 47 CC gas motor ready for a giant balsa wood scratch built project. Any way to get the plans ?
Love it... now upscale to a pilot version :D
Looks like a b2 stealth bomber I like with the gear on it I got a rc flying wing and I fly it with no gear fly's quite powerful
Beautiful model and very well flown. What will it be like when it's been tweaked????
I want one now
Very Cool! You going to put a camera on it? There is a guy who is going to build an airplane using hemp. What do you think of that? Do R/C modeler's use hemp in any of their designs?
Only before, during or after the flight in Holland
But they smoke it instead of using it in their designs
Is there a build blog about this wing?
Where is the CG in this plane .....please tell...
Yes pleasssseee telll
do you by any chance know what airfoil they used?
Nice work.
Very nice smooth flying. Is it aerobatic? What Aerofoil did you use? Hit wire foam cut?
Nice one.
What's the AUW of this beast and is there plans available?
Can you post a little info on how you built the retractable landing gear?

remarkable !
very good pilot
Very nice.
That glide slope tho. How do you make it???
vary cool wing. biggest i've done is 90"
Hello
Just wanted to ask u which plane u think is better for 3d the EF EXTRA 300 78 INCH or the Edge 540T 74 inch
What is that weird glare or object right of the plane at 1 minute in 58 seconds into the video
ayy lmao
Whoa. Had to slow it down to see that. The truth is out there? lol!
Does the increased size translate into longer flight time or more payload? What was the goal?
It's intent was to be a "Mother Ship" for three other wings. Three of the smaller combat type wings fit. Two up top, one underneath. (Or vice-versa. Can't recall after we added retracts) Anyhow, we never got around to finishing it. Maybe some day.

How heavy was this plane in the air?
i am doing a similar build. great vid too.
were the wings washed out? What have you done to fix the stability issues? Is it enough to have a swept back configuration with wingtips?
Man thats cool
Very cool
Very nice. What kind of foam did you use?
Can you give me its plan?
Is there a build video or info or plans to go off of...?

muy bueno amigo planos. para hacer igual
i thought the concept of a flying wing was an aircraft that doesn't require vertical fins to fly

nice job! how many kg, the flying weight
I flew this same design back in the 80s.

Hey I'm building 114'' wing, how much weight is yours ? thanks
bravo!
awesome.!!
What...No hand launch and catch?
What landing gear do/did you have on this plane?
4:48... nice camera work dude -.-'
Nice!
hi- i am reza sweeny from iran- bravoooo your model hs very good
Hi Reza yes I agree.
couldnt even record the landing..you had one job
Yeah, yeah, I know... second attempt at video went a bit better. 😁 ruclips.net/video/aelqy6iIC0Y/видео.htmlsi=Jzjo8AqusKYspkZz
what is the size of the motor kv
is this based of the ft kraken?
1:57 - orb shows up off the left wingtip..
Is that the landing gear is controlled by servo motor...?
hi what does it weigh?
What airfoil?
Plans?

Why on earth are people still flying LOS? Put a camera on there!
this type of plane is very eficient in therms of enegy consume. Soo how much cocaine can take off? haha
Poor motor. Not much thinking went into this
