- Designing For is a series which looks at one specific level, character, or idea in gaming and breaks down the central theme to that element to figure out what it's, well, designing for! In this episode, we break down the Vampire Savior himself, Jedah Dohma, and explore what the Darkstalkers franchise does to make itself special! For in celebrating monsters, Darkstalkers has had to create its own definition of terror, and in both gameplay and stature, Jedah does not disappoint.

Darkatalkers for me has some of the greatest character designs in all of fighting games. The fact that most Darkstalkers characters are based on the most well known monsters in history yet still feel incredibly original is a testament to the amazing designers over at Capcom. The Night Warriors are just amazing! Every one of them.
Just remember: despite the sheer horror that Jedah Dohma encapsulates and embodies...
He's terrified of _Anita._
Yeah, that little emotionless girl who followed Donovan around? She's apparently destined to become the future ruler of humanity.
Jedah Dohma is a dark messiah with the power to turn a demon lord into an entire dimension.
Jedah Dohma is *_shit scared_* of Anita.
Even the most terrifying of monsters are themselves terrified of something.
It's implied he view her as a possible threat to his plans once her powers awaken but it's never stated he's straight up terrified of her.
@@bastienlafleur5838Yeah, it's more threatened than feared. Still, you wouldn't expect a powerful demon lord to be cautious of small child
Imagine being one of the most powerful demons in the cosmos and some random zombie turns you into a basket ball, dunks you into a demonic basketball hoop, and then plays a sick ass guitar riff on your grave
"God is bleeding before you and he does not care."
Something about that line is just so metal to me
If you think about it: Jedah is basically a bishonen Cenobite.
Insatiable drip
Apsolute drippery
Not only is he based on Go Nagai Devilman design wise , but also was voice by Beast Wars Megatron David Kaye in Marvel vs Capcom Infinity , so cool
Darkstalkers? Ain't this a treat. Thanks for giving it the love Capcom hasn't given it as of late.
We literally just got the entire series re-released on modern platforms because they wanted to re-release Red Earth. Love by proxy is still love.
I always appreciate when a write-up of a boss character and how cool they are also adds in "Oh yeah and here's their glaring weakness, they suck at defending low and you can just hit them over and over again." I'd seen Jedah around but I never got into Dark Stalkers so this is a very cool look at the guy, I can definitely see why people would like this weirdo!
Ngl, jedah's stage is the definition of nightmare fuel.
Don't forget that his pump is *his own blood.*
So when I was watching this video the video title was, Jedah: Darkstalkers' Insatiable Monster -- Designing For Terror. It's a Great title, short, and too the point when I get to the end Judah strikes killing our guide and the title changes to, The Greatest Monster In Fighting Games -- Designing For Terror. I cannot state how COOL that was to experience that in REAL time! Great Video by the way!
Thank you for giving Drakstalkers and especially Jeddah attention, and I hope that with the fighting game collection’s release; a new darkstalkers can finally happen
A Designing For video about Darkstalkers? Dang, dude, it's not even my birthday!
Also, I heard that Brutal Legend voice clip. What are the odds we see THAT game get covered someday?
Darkstalkers deserved more love nowadays and deserved a welcome comeback. And Jedah felt like one of the prime examples of body horror in a Capcom property outside of Resident Evil. I just can't believe they got away with gore in a T-rated IP!
Jedah's stage 'Fetus of God' tho? *Shudder*
I poked this guy to death using Sasquatch and that’s the only thing I know about Darkstalkers.
Ah remember this guy, if anything- his stage is what terrified me the most when I was little, in a way you mashed up horror and gore together it feels like you’re watching “The Faces of Death “film, and you know what - Blood is enough to give us an unnerving feeling is why I like Jeddah so much, and his stage rivals that of the Eclipse from Berserk.
This was fairly entertaining to watch. Lot of enjoyable ham as you narrate this video, really exemplifying what you believe about Jedah. Great to see people show a lot of passion for things and characters they love. 😊
While I am not so keen on playing the games as I am utter trash at traditional fighters, I still find a lot of intrigue and fun with Darkstalkers as a whole. My favorites are Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling as they just absolutely draw me in with their designs and lore. They got me into the series and to meet so many people, some of which are now my closest friends!😊❤
Thank you for this video, was enjoyable. And Happy Halloween!
I will always respect Capcom for having the BALLS to put Jedah in MVCI despite Disney's assasination of the character's roster
Now imagine this guy being put in a fight to the death against Fused Zamasu from Dragon Ball Super!
The over the top Holier Than Thou attitudes would be off the charts!
The Morrigan sprite art is forever
I feel like visually and thematically Darkstalkers would be my favourite fighting game if I liked fighting games.
Someday Darkstalkers will return!
So a part of his gameplay that shows his holier than thou attitude is none of his normals cause knockdown. It ends up being a liability for applying pressure but it does show how confident he is that he doesn't need to put you on the floor to show his superiority. Jedah is still one of my favorite fighting game bosses.
Holy shit somebody remembers Darkstalkers ;-;
3:50 maxima from kof is a strong contender too
I'm gonna go play some Darkstalkers.
I LOVE JEDAH DOHMA
me too!
Darkstakers needs to come back
lots of references to sugarpunch's halloween video from last year. i dig it. this is also a kickass video
12:35 HEY, UNDEAD UNLUCK REFERENCE!!
wait wait wait................ LORD RAPTOR IS THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE GAME???????
*AWESOME*
Excellent Video!
Also, noticed a lot of elements from Umineko no Naku Koro Ni being used here and there (SFXs and BGs)
Excellent choice on the closing music ✨
since im here on a video about fighting game monsters, i might as well talk about my favorite fighting game monster in like a paragraph or maybe 2.
Arakune from the BlazBlue series, in a series full of magical machines, a whole lotta cat people, and a literal cat, along with normal people, Arakune still manages to stand out. a man by the name of Roy became the way he did after falling into a cauldron full of sether, full of all the knowledge he's ever been seeking and more, he came out of it this gross blob, way smarter than he was before, he knows nearly everything thanks to all the knowledge he gained from the Sether, but he can barely mutter a sentence anymore, and his bones still remain in the blob now stained yellow.
those are how he attacks, he will attack you by growing his bones out of his body in gross ways, and since he's a shapeless blob, he'll also transform his body for attacking. he'll transform into a shark, a bird, a spider and other things. he's gross, and kinda scary. all of these attacks move him around quite a bit, and he's also given a teleport dash, he's supposed to be a slippery little blob that can be tough to get your hands on, they even gave the guy a get outta jail free card where he can air dash into a corner and appear out the other side.you're gonna have trouble hitting him, but if you do, you see he's kinda frail, surely being just goop and bones can't be that durable. but he uses these bag of movement tricks and odd moveset to try and set up for his unique gimmick, when Arakune fills up his curse gauge by hitting an opponent with enough drive attacks the opponent will get infested, once infested any button Arakune presses will send out a bug, it's a different for every button and Arakune can press buttons to send out bugs in the middle of doing another attack, so you could press your C button in the middle of a B attack and send out that C bug, this makes it so the slippery wad of goo who's combo game isn't that impressive and not very damaging and turns him into a monster on the field who gets combo numbers in the 50's and can keep terrifying combos go on for a very long time until the curse meter is drained. he can be one of the worst, most awkward characters in the game, or the scariest monster ever seen in a fighting game if you let him get what he wants.
he isn't just a frail guy who can send out bugs from time-to-time though, if you don't know what you're doing and having difficulty setting up the curse meter and getting it full, you can get stomped rather easily, he is a very hard character to play, but if you stay to it, endur the hardships of this awkward moveset with a difficult to set up gimmick, the rewards will put any opponent you face into a true, bug filled nightmare.
capcom REALLY NED to make a Darkstalkers 4, Jedah is really cool, I would like too see him a animated serie maybe be a bit like netflix Castlevania
Epilepsy warning at 1:00
Hope you're having a good day, happy halloween
cool stuff for halloween c:
Right around Halloween to Day of the Dead! This hits just right!
I haven't watched the video yet but, jedah is sick. There are a lot of great monsters tho.
Well what about other video game monster fighters like obsidius or keystalak or bagan
Waaait was that the background of the pokemon arceus event on platinum..?!
Let's go! MK slander!
Neat
... Zamasu?
Zamasu is a discount Jedah
So, his weakness is rushdown players...That is funny.
Wait thats not Hisako
I really enjoyed the video, but I do have a critique. I feel like the commentary was delivered a little too over-the-top. I wanted to hear about the visual motifs and intricacies of Jeda's design, but it was hard to stay focused with the grand line readings you were giving /not mad. It was just a little too goofy for me /light hearted
I thought we were gonna talk about Jedi…
Jedah : "Morrigan, join me to the dark side"
