An inspiring story of global impact and community action, led by our International Programmes’ Alumni.
At Imbeleko, our mandate to “enable our dreamers to reach their full potential and become global society-contributing, self-sufficient citizens” is more than just words-we live by it every day.
Over the past four years, 8 Imbeleko Dreamers have traveled to the US, Germany, Israel, India, and China through transformative initiatives like The AFS Global STEM Changemakers and The Girls Gearing Up International Leadership Academy. These experiences not only expanded their global awareness but also empowered them to address pressing sustainability challenges within our community.
Now, all 8 have joined forces to launch IMBEWU-a biodiversity-driven movement dedicated to preserving ecosystems. “The name IMBEWU, meaning a seed in English, is a powerful reminder of the opportunities planted in us through these international experiences,” they share.
Witnessing the birth of initiatives like IMBEWU is a proud milestone in Imbeleko’s 15-year journey. We’re excited to see this movement drive sustainable change in alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
